@nofs2003 The soup kitchen is no laughing matter for sure. My feeling is that most very hungry people, if asked to sing their favorite U2 song BEFORE Bono ladeled out a plate of noodles for them, would sound very much like this flatlining chanteuse. It's an image too sad to dwell on, isn't it?

Just watched U2 at Glasto playing this. Bono has fallen out of love with the song, sang it with no emotion. This rendition takes a great song and puts a whole new twist onit, soulful instead of angry ....... bliss.

I have to disagree with kwtremblay - i think this a great, very disturbing song by U2. There have been plenty of covers (as you can see from the videos on here), including a very good one by Johnny Cash in the last years of his life. However, I think this version by Cowboy Junkies is simply stunning - kind of rips into you. One of my favourite ever songs.
