In the 1960s and 1970s, people were far less tolerant than they are today. Back then, I remember calling others "fag" and I remember being called "fag" nearly every day in school. It was the number one insult to throw around. Teachers back then didn't even discipline the kids for doing it. I am very glad that people are more sensitive to the feelings of others now than they were back then, and I am straight. Keep up the good fight! It is worth it.

I was once in love with a bisexual woman who had been molested. She now lives as a man married to a woman. The key point, which you dodge completely, is whether homosexuality is a normal variation, like red hair, or a malady, like schizophrenia. Depending on when he left, and the circumstances before and after his departure, it's a perfectly valid assessment of the situation. Trauma and chaos during childhood can have profound effects on a person's wiring, particularly their sexuality.

"Abnormal" is a poor choice of words, since it implies deviating from what is "normal" in an undesirable way (OED). Minority is applicable and not value-laden. For ex. male homosexuals make their female siblings more fertile, only because they exist. Making more fertile females increases the risk of homosexual males. Think of sickle-cell anemia, why is a 1/4 of the population *destined* to die? Well, it makes the remaining 3/4 more resistant. Evolution is like that, it finds cruel compromises and stays with them.

I believe people were born gay the same way I was born left-handed; It just doesn't present itself until the correct opportunity. In another time or culture I could be forced or intimidated into being right-handed; gay people are still subject to social pressure to conform. I was once in love with a bisexual woman who had been molested. She now lives as a man married to a woman. The thing is, the categories of "molested" and "GLBTQ" are common enough that the categories are guaranteed to overlap alot, and I think we'd be stunned at how much, if we could somehow find out. The key point, which you dodge completely, is whether homosexuality is a normal variation, like red hair, or a malady, like schizophrenia. I know that currently the psychiatric community has come down on the side of it being normal, but this is a reversal of a longstanding position that homosexuality is a malady. "Abnormal" is a poor choice of words, since it implies deviating from what is "normal" in an undesirable way (OED). Minority is applicable and not value-laden. From the perspective that the homosexual population has historically been a consistent subculture, the word "anomaly" is also misapplied, since it's defined as deviating from what is standard, normal or expected. @IDoNotGiveACrap They don't need to be actively helpful actually and there are many possible reasons that are envisioned for them to exist. For ex. male homosexuals make their female siblings more fertile, only because they exist. Making more fertile females increases the risk of homosexual males. Think of sickle-cell anemia, why is a 1/4 of the population *destined* to die? Well, it makes the remaining 3/4 more resistant. Evolution is like that, it finds cruel compromises and stays with them.

@sgtbadasss A female dog trying to mate with humans doesn't make her retarded, just instinctively horny. Dog's will do anything for a lay when they're in heat, as do some humans. But I think its funny that you ask me for some scientific evidence and then turn your nose up at it when I give you some. What is your primary reason for not taking homosexuality seriously? Why are you so intent on proving me wrong? You are not gay. You don't know what I feel so you can't say that it is a choice.

I really hope ZJ isnt suggesting that people should stop looking for the scientific reason that causes a person to be heterosexual or homosexual , cause there is a real , true and physical thing occuring to make that happen . These desires are just magical bits of fart dust that spring up out of nowhere and yes, it would be nice to know what causes both orientations . Who knows what we could learn about our bodies if we could discover that .

I believe people were born gay the same way I was born left-handed; It just doesn't present itself until the correct opportunity. In another time or culture I could be forced or intimidated into being right-handed; gay people are still subject to social pressure to conform. I do go out of my way to accommodate my lefty-ness, but any minority should expect that. Just hoping this analogy will help someone be more understanding.

@sgtbadasss First of all, yes I can still make babies and no I don't have to be straight to do that cuz there's a little thing called adoption or artificial insemination. Second, I don't just think I'm gay I AM GAY. I have had attractions to the same sex for as long as I can remember and I can't control it or restrain it. How could I possibly 'just think' i'm gay??? And yes this does make you ignorant; you obviously don't understand that being gay is no more psychological than being straight.
