I'm sorry, but I can only give you some advice and the source code. I sketched the circuit on paper, didn't use the PC for that.
You definitely need background in electronics. Look vor Atmel AVR in google. You find a lot of information there.
I amplified the signal of a dynamic microphone using an OP AMP connected to an ADC pin of the Controller. Then I used a simple algorithm for deciding when a bounce occured. Althaugh the algorithm is so simple, I spend more time on it than on the hardware.
This stuff is not cheap ... might have been 25-40€. But I can tell you I made it only for fun. I used it only for a few hours. It doesn't help to become a better juggler ;-)
cool! great idea

I think you might want to counter to go into the thousands, but apart from that it looks awesome.

If only there was something like this for toss juggling

where do you buy that thing that keep track how many times they bounce?

@djangoboaz
you can't buy it, I built it with some electronic parts and some programming

It's made of marble and I fixed rubber under it (perhaps 1 mm). Today, would use thicker rubber. I can transport the plate in my big rucksack.

can you tell me what a kind of plate this is (i need one to play in my room...)

Sounds a bit too hard....

Okey thanx, what did it cost you?

Not cheap?! 25-45€ sounds quite cheap to me.... Yeah i kno i doesn't help.... or maybe it's good to keep track of the progress ;-)

I remember you wrote me a couple of years ago when you were working on one that could speak!
How does this one work?
How accurate is it?
I'm guessing that for passing, if two balls struck at once, it would only count one?
Anyway it's pretty cool!
I'm going to link this video up to The Bounce Page.

David,
I'm sorry, I answered to your question but I posted it as another comment. I fixed that now.
The counter has a microphone. You can see the wire in the video.
I should have built a case for it ... when I once hit it with a ball, it almost broke. But it still works.
I don't think you could use it for passing because it's not sensitive enough.
