  • Not like I am an expert, but I think if you would have added more motion blur to the rock columns that break and fly at the camera, it would have really sold the effect.

  • he died.

  • This is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  • yea im just going to jog away for that ball of fire coming toward me.

  • What's the best place to get up to speed with 3ds max? I only know the basics like how to create objects lol

  • so........hes dead?

  • Perfect! The thing that I am dying for. Does not it need any texturing stuff? And yes, a tutorial would be very very nice.

  • tutorial plz...???

  • very nice! dont forget about your light sources to match the real environment too ;)

  • VERY GOOD but u need depth of field to make more realistc

  • VERY GOOD but u need depth of field

  • Please do a tutorial that was seriously epic!

  • how do replace the 3d enviroment from the scene?

  • needs better actor xD if i was that guy, i would pretend, i'll dive near the camera :P

  • the actor REALY isn't good at ACTING! but nice visual fx's :-)

  • "A giant explosion, you say?

It's time to jog away at a leisurely pace!!!"

    But seriously, great work!

  • I really love this! :D but the lighting on the debris is not right and it should have some more motion blur to look a little more realistic i think . but very awesome.

  • You are my hero! I haven't posted in a while but your tuts are priceless. Good job on mastering a variety of programs.

  • you could use a litle bit of blur and color corrector the debris! it would look way better! but is amazing right now! x)

  • Could you do a short lava effect? I've always wanted to see one.

    :D

  • @gtamythmaster43 lava is very easy to do with maya fluids.

But I didn't find use for it in any of my shots or films yet.

  • @vfxworld I know, I mean could you do one? Just so we could see it? Because I haven't found a lava effect any where!

  • @gtamythmaster43 I have done some, but didn't upload them cause I didn't find some location nearby where I could record the right footage.

  • @vfxworld AW that sucks...

  • the fire looks real

    but the rocks are cheep

  • Photoshop CS4 Rotoscoping ? whattt???

  • RUN FAT BOY RUN

  • shame the actor wasnt better, but great effects.

  • awesome

  • wow that guy was not terrified to die, he run like nothing was happening

  • Very cool :D

  • Well, your main reasons for being against AE seem to be the speed and probably the unstableness? Until recently I hated to composite with After Effects because of it's random crashes and unpredictable render-times (one minute before even starting just a shot of one video over another?!?), then I upgraded to Adobe CS5, and I must say: it is the best update ever. Although the rotobrush comes in handy, there are not many new impressive features. But the speed and stableness was amazing.

  • Amazing! I want to learn this! AE sucks!)))

  • shit 30 mins per frame! Nice stuff though. Must've taken forever.

  • bad collor correction

  • id be running alot faster than that if the building started blowing up lol

  • you dont have to tell me the reason, you had me at explosion

    :D

  • how it took you to make that?

  • hey man, would you like to get a tutorial for this video?!?! peace! GREAT WORK!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • u shld post a tut of this man... it looks great!

  • it looks like the person is jogging and not running:)

  • Looks very realistic!

  • not bad, but cgi effects are not so cool. I love Action Films with real Explosions like

    in the 80ies and 90ies

    LG

    Max

  • can u make a remodelling tutorial please =) !

  • I think the stones were a little less motion blur .. but awesome!

  • ☆☆☆☆☆☆

  • Awesome work, it seems to be a scene from a big movie !!!!!

    quite impressive

  • Awesome job! how did you mask the runner out? doesnt seem to be take on a green screen.

  • @errotomania rotoscoping in Photoshop - frame by frame.

  • @vfxworld Holy shit that was good :)

Ps. the actor (maybe you?) walked to slow, looked fake /unnatural, but Holy s** this was amazing :)

  • @leafblowinSK8 I'm like 30 years younger than the actor ;)

  • @leafblowinSK8 Well your kinda beastly, how old are you then?

Anyways this s amazing, i wouldnt know how to even start, and idk evven what Rotoscoping is, im like WTF :p

    Truely impressive ;)

    -A

  • @vfxworld Excelent, takes a lot of time , no!?

  • @vfxworld AMAZING! how long did it take you to rotoscope and can you make ea tutorial on that because i dont know how to

  • @vfxworld Heyyy, excellent work dude, let me recomend you learn use imagineer system's mocha or motor, for do the rotoscoping in a snap, and the runner, looks weird, cause isnt affected by the light generated by the fire, a couple of masks in a yellow solid in overlay can solve it. good luck and nice job

  • @vfxworld Why didn't you use After Effects for the rotoscoping, instead of Photoshop?

  • @lashand7 because after effects is much slower and more complicated. Photoshop got more controls.

  • @vfxworld after effects cs5 is better to use

  • @MultiJacob123 First: I bought CS4 and right now don't have money for CS5 cause I'll buy 3ds max 2011.

Second: No it is not. Wow, it has some great new features that I don't even think about using cause they are useless. AE is compositing, no FX app for me.

Third: I switched from AE to nuke and fusion compositing software.

I know which softwares are better to use, trust me ;)

  • @vfxworld yea, I maybe its better but I still use after effects for visual fx and 3d max for sepcial elements like road explosions and dirt charges.

  • @MultiJacob123 I see. Well you're doing a lot videocopilot stuff for fun.

But on more complex scenes like I am most times working on, After Effects is just too slow and bad to handle.

AE is also not used on film production level. Most times for small commercials and amateur filmers, but no chance on film production.

  • @vfxworld yea it´s slow but it´s still good for visual fx and compositing. I want premiere elements to use but I still going to use after effects.

  • @MultiJacob123 it's good for easy scenes. It sucks on complicated composites.

premiere Elements for compositing fx? wtf?!

  • @vfxworld premiere elements for compositing? no. it´s good for other stuff.

  • @MultiJacob123 omg, so you still cut with AE?

Well, you obviously need to rebuild your complete production pipeline.

I use Premiere Pro for cutting.

  • @vfxworld that´s what I mean I want premiere pro for cutting... Now I´m using windows movie maker. and that is a baby program...

  • Great. But maybe the shadows and ligthing of the column that explodes could be worked a little better.

  • So awesome! you should make a tutorial!

  • that looks complicated

  • awesome!

  • the debris looks really CG, but the explosion itself looks amazing!

  • It's a shame the actor is bad. He doesn't seem too worried about the gigantic cloud of fire coming his way.

  • Truly inspirational. How long did it take to make the whole comp? Render times, texturing, everything...please provide a total time from scratch to completion. Thanks! LOVE VFX world. Best.

  • @HANGER187 well, fast preproduction. On set I (as supervisor) took some survery data. Supervised tracking used with suvery data for a good cam track. Postproduction : 3 Particle Systems, 1 Rigid Body system, 5-10 hours creating them. Own Maxscript UI used to speed up particle optimisation. 2 Days working on the AfterBurn Concept, 30 mins/frame render on 25 fps. Compositing, fake reflection in 2 hours, roto in 2-5 hours. Final Render - don't documentated that ^^.

All in all around 3-4 days.

  • @vfxworld THANK YOU for responding so fast! Genius, pure genius. I salute you. Much gratitude for your kindness, wisdom and sharing your workflow/renders. BEST!

  • Hey are you a professional vfx artist?

  • @viplovem haha :)

Nope, I'm just a young amateur filmer who likes creating visual effects.

  • @vfxworld Oh cool...im also kind of getting into this stuff. Maybe you could help me? How old are u anyways?

  • @vfxworld you deserve a job making these effects. keep it up. that video was great

  • Hey this is an awesome video nice job... Could we have a tutorial how to make an affect like this are something close to this please????

  • That is nice!! But can you give us a tut? (I am a noob in 3d max!)

  • I like the videos where ppl show how they managed to make final effect.

    nice one.

  • krass !

  • 30 minutes per frame of rendering??? gahhh that's horrible! :(

  • Nice job vfxworld.. to sonic.. it is a lot, but each pass (I think 7 of them) needs to be rendered separately and then then final composite it rendered, so thats really only about 4 minutes per frame per pass, which is not too bad. vfx correct me if I'm wrong.

  • well.

it's 30 mins rendering time for the explosion shader only.

The rest was just fast rendering with 15-30 secs per frame.

The explosion shader is what takes rendering time.

  • wow, that is crazy then. Definitely looks good!!

  • Wow great work! Only thing that could have been better was the texturing and lighting of the debris.. but this is fantastic!! :)

    5/5

  • Very nice. This is definately your best creation so far. Althought I still think that Fume would've been better than AB, the overall look is VERY good.

Actor is too relaxed (jogging :D) but the effect itself is very nice.

  • if you get an idea of how to make some rolling fire with Fume, tell me.

I think, AfterBurn still is better for those kind of explosions.

  • well it's harder ofcourse, but Fume FX has almost perfect engine for any kind of explosion. You have to use some intensity maps and use the 3D version of room as an object to make realistic pressure etc. I haven't touched fume in two months so I really can't tell u how to make it :D but I think it's possible.

    It still looks awesome.

  • Nice work!!...

  • cool explosion =)

  • Nice work....please make a tutorial for this......

  • Well done!

  • vedy nice!

  • sieht nach ner menge arbeit aus ;)

  • the animation is nice but the actor is too relaxed

if such an explosion was behind me i'd RUN!!!

  • nice, but the fire doesnt roll very naturally, but overall great effect.

  • but who knows how fire really rolls :D

Did you ever see such an explosion in real life? xD

    well, I didn't

  • i dont know, but i think fume fx might contain better results than afterburn in this matter.

  • wow.

  • extrem schöne arbeit!! sehr viel detail!

  • fantastic!

  • bro make a tuto out of it..

    awesome work..!!

    keep it up

  • sehr geil hendrik

  • Reflections are great just need to add some shadows, other then that an incredible effect! great job!

  • but think about that:

    If there is much light...

Will there be shadows? well, I thought, no. So There are no shadows.

  • Don't mean to be a pest lol but, open up your project file, add a sky light and just see what you think. make they intensity pretty low so theres not to much shadows on the ground but it makes your materials look more realistic to. :)

  • LOL! armer herr l....du kannst doch nich einfach so unsere schule in die luft sprengen...tztztz

  • warum nicht???

  • Wow! That's sick dude.. Did you use long time to make this? Btw, can you please make more tutorials..?

  • oh well.

I don't know how long it takes... I'm working since october, not every day, just sometimes.

as sayed in description, rendering time per frame: 30 mins

  • wow!!! great job

  • wow 100 stars!

  • ah shit.

you can only give 5 ;)

    thanks

  • now THAT was great id say one of utube! nery nice

  • OMG! NICE DONE!

  • Nice! Wonder why everyone is german but, Its kinda funny how the guy is like -_- and when the explosion comes he doesnt change, I would exxpect him to be, -_- O_O !@_@! AHHHHHH T_T

  • because he is DREAMING

that's the scene. that's his dream. And he is about "o my god, that is not real"

well, but you're right, normally, he should be like "waah" and run like devil is behind him ^^

  • Oh, I would have known that better like reading the description... See I always do but it comes down to sometimes I dont want to and I always mess up if I dont.....

  • NACHMACHER?

  • Very professionally done, other then the debri looking 3d, everything is very well done, awsome work!!!! And just to note, even high budget movies do alot of things that look fake, no biggy easy fix for you if you actually wanted to fix it, the shapes are fine, seems like its the lighting of them that makes them look 3d.

  • actually it is amazing!!!! we are waitng for the tutorial :D

  • very nice !

  • very nice. but the debris look a little bit fake, they need more details to be realistic. however very will done

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • really nice!

how much did your camera cost?

  • 1200 €

  • Very nice

  • Wow nice.

  • This is some very nice work!

By the way what camera are you using in this?

  • Sony HDR-XR 500V was used for this.
