NON-VIOLENCE?!?! He was the the fucking defense minister for the black panthers at one time! He is a selfISH public servant who prays on the victim complex that has developed in the impoverished and the black community of Chicago. He is a bigot in and of the class as Farakhan and Jesse Jackson. These men are not champions of equal rights, they are champions of pomp and self-righteousness. They are exactly the type of hypocrites described in the gospels. I am not a racist, I am a realist.
You get blacks who only see what they want to in terms of white prejudice. And then you get whites who look down their noses and also see only what they want to in terms of black prejudice. Everyone reacts at a gut level without reason and personal separation in certain circumstances and I'm fucking tired of it. See people for WHO they are and WHAT they do, not what they are (and I'm not necessarily talking about skin color! Think about it.)
Name one black panther who has ever been convicted of a violent crime. Now compare that to the klan & skinheads & the racist crimes they have committed against blacks. Whites have practiced implementing racist laws and punishment on blacks for years. So exactly how are we supposed to fight back without being called a bigot? i would love to hear your philosophy on this.
@SARGEHVFD u failed to finish what i said...YOU DIDN'T COMPARE THAT TO THE CRIMES OF RACIST WHITES....like i said...Compare the H RAP BROWN MURDER OR Mumia Abu-Jamal murder to the murder of emmitt till or ANY of the lynchings and hanging of blacks. every one of the people u named are now considered revolutionaries by many people. how could whites commit the worst crimes in humanity and not EXPECT BLACKS TO DO ANYTHING...LIKE HONESTLY...DID YOU THINK WE WOULD DO NOTHING?
@SARGEHVFD and btw...daniel faulkner was not a black panther. he was the cop who was killed by Mumia Abu-Jamal. I'm sure he would be VERY OFFENDED by you calling him a black panther.
Chris Matthews commenly overgeneralizes about what the American public thinks and tells us what to think about everything. But what can you expect from the brainwashers from BSNBC?
America so afraid of being called racist feels bad for an appointed Senator who wqas appointed by a man who was AUCTIONING the position away illegally including an Ebay bid. But because he was black (oddly enough given the nod after Blagojevich "spoke" with Jesse Jackson's son) he is deemed a victim instead of another area of growing problems within the American Political System
Rep Bob Rush you pandering idiot. You are attacking the US Constitution and are guilty of treason. Gun Control is the gateway to tyranny and it is racist. Watch: 2a for today for the USA, 911 without a gun, and visit JPFO to learn the "police myth" Personal defense is personal you criminal. Impeach his sorry black stupid ass now! Learn the facts: Gun Control is racist..JPFO
In 1968 he co-founded the IL state Black Panther Party. In 1969, Bobby Rush served six months in prison for illegal possession of firearms. He is RACIST AND CRIMINAL!
jpace-Bobby Rush- also went AWOL from the US military...And proposed less strict laws against drug dealers because he thought it would cut down on gun violence!
A RACIST, DRUNK, DUMBASS!
Write your political representatives now, and appose HR 45!
A few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand
Playing the race card was definitly a low blow. On the other hand, it is unconstitutional not to allow Buress in the Senate. Personaly, I think there should be an election to fill the seat.
Its about time to stop riding that when it has nothing to do with the situation. I know minorties have had a looong hard fight over many decades to still be behind, but lets keep it real, whites are not the only ones who are racist!
I usually agree with Cenk on most things, but he's wrong here. That picture of Burris in the rain spoke volumes about how Reid and other Demos have made a fool of themselves during this entire ordeal. You have all white new senators being ushered in and Burris the lone black ousted from the proceedings. It's a bad image for Reid and others. Reid knew it, and that's why he had the cameras shoot him and Burris together in his office. Matthews was right on about this.
Whoever is in that video needs to check his facts and be a little more respectful. The reason that Congressman Rush is mumbling is because he is a survivor of throat cancer, so making fun of the way he speaks shows how callous you are.
MAtthews was over the top on this one. I generally like him but here he was trying to cater to Rush. Burris is an opportunist and he should have never accepted the nomination given the circumstances. Blago played the race card first by appointing Burris and Rush piled on. What a joke this is.
If Burris had any honor he would have refused the appointment. He had to know this was going to be a total fiasco and he accepted for no other reason than to advance his own career, i.e. "I'm 71 and this is my last chance to become a US senator." Bobby Rush is an IDIOT. To equate Burris in the rain with police dogs attacking black children is immoral.
Frankly, Cenk sounds like he's on the sauce and pandering to a so-called moderate view. Rush is just being forthright. And this stupid word 'taint' as if there's anything clean about politics. Try and be less superficial.
This is not meant as a racial remark, but if black people in general fall for this kind of stuff and let black politicians use the "race card" in this manner, watering it down for there own personal gain, they are FECKING IDIOTS.
Blago being impeached produces a bigger problem than Burris. If Blago's found unfit for office and removed, which of his actions should be reversed? What effect will this have on the state of Illinois. How far do they go back and make those reversals? This is a legal issue that is clearly far beyond the elementary grasp of those arguing against the seating of Burris.
There is what we think is right, there are ethical imperatives... then there's the LAW. Wanting something does not make it so.
And to all of you who claim that Race isn't an issue here... think about it.
A lone Black being denied a Senate Seat by non-Blacks.
It's obvious that there wouldn't have been any question of Burris being accepted if Blago hadn't been accused of wrong doing. But denying a Black man in the face of the complete absence of Black faces in the Senate is a stark reminder of the continued social injustices faced by African Americans.
Btw, members of the Senate admited that Burris called their bluff.
I cant understand this tan fellow through his mumbling. And it has nothing to do with racism, it has to do with his being appointed under a cloud. And obviously nobody cared about having a black senator from chicago, we just elected the one before him.
Clacci34, Your inference is that my comparison was to the civil rights movement.Don't try to attribute your own"disgraceful"thoughts to me. My point was that you must follow the law always, not only when you personally like the outcome. Your attemt to misrepresent and reframe my statement is what is offensive
Cenk, the fact that this appointment makes reasonable poeple wretch does not justify ignoring the rule of law. What opinion polls say is irrelevent. This country is not supposed to be rule by poll but by the rule of law. Don't justify ignoring the law. Social conservatives use this "majority opinion" argument to discriminate all the time. Be careful what you condone.
I don't like Burris or Blago but you are right that Burris has every right to be in the senate just because of the law, also I was against him because I was suspect that Burris may have bought the seat but I learned they discovered little evidence to back that up so I think he should be seated just because the law states so that the governor has that right
Hey TYT (The Young Terrorists) My dog pissed on a plant yesterday. Is that NEWS to you? Just a suggestion here: Put all your studio eguipment in the FREE section on Craigslist, and fade away. Your so washed up and DONE! Everybody hates you..so why are you stiil here? Oh I know...trying to pinch every dollar you can from your Advertisers, who have also abandoned you. Time for you losers to call it a day, and move on.
Bobby Rush is wrong and frankly he knows it. He's not stupid. he knows exactly what he's doing; stirring up racial tension in order to get the person he wants the senate seat.
Burris was going to be seated anyway, but stirring up unfounded racial issues is not the proper way to help the process.
Burris isn't as clean as everyone thinks he is. As a Chicago resident, I have seen a lot crap in Il. politics. Bobby Rush is a drunken old fool. Burris lost the last 5 elections he ran in. The people of Il. have spoken already 5 times! But it doesn't matter what the people want I guess. He couldn't even win the primary. Burris got 1.5 million from a blago connection for his last election. This whole thing stinks. Chris Matthews is a fucking idiot. Period.
wow... What an idiot Rush is. This sounds harsh, but I can't wait until all these old timing people who look at everything through racist glasses die so we can all move on with our lives.
Yeah, I don't like the way Bobby Rush works. I have nothing against Burris. I don't think many do. The issue has almost nothing to do with Burris and Rush seems oblivious.
as a black person i can say that these fools embarrass me and piss me off......they are trying to capitalize on obama's success.... but instead they are giving fuel to right wing racists like limbaugh and hannity....burris is all about himself and this clown talking to matthews needs to be banned from tv.....black people don't need representatives like these ambitious losers
Like it or not, Blago is still the Governor of Illinois. (And for the record, I don't like it.) Thus, there is no legal precedence on which to deny Burris a seat. That would violate ex post facto law.
Another cold fact is that Burris would be the only African American Senator.
Yes, there is a civil right ring to this. A senate full of non-Blacks denying a Black man who showed up for work. I usually agree with you Cenk, but he's wrong on this one.
It doesn't have any ring of civil rights to it. He's not being denied because he's black, he's being denied because he's joined at the hip with Blago now. Most Democrats and people in general don't want to see him seated because of that.
Cenk's point is that if you want to try to argue in favor of Burris because you think he's qualified then go for it. But don't try to make it into a racial issue when it's clearly not that.
I take it you're not African American. When you don't have a single African American U.S. Senator it bears scrutiny. This is not as clearly a non civil rights issue as you'd maintain, since the Congressional Black Congress is calling for his seating. He is not joined at the hip of Burris; Burris has openly criticized Blago. But be that as it may, Blago, whether we like or not, is still the sitting Governor of IL, and as such there no legal precedent to deny his choice.
To suggest in any way that this is a Civil Rights issue is a flat-out digusting lie. You aught to be ashamed of yourself. You can't honestly say that if Blago had appointed a white guy the reaction would be any different. You know this. Bobby Rush knows this. The Congressional Black Caucus knows this. Small children know this. This is a naked power grab by Burris and Blago's a corrupt piece of trash, and so is anyone who willingly associates with him, which includes Burris and Rush.
I'm not ashamed of myself. Are you ashamed of your lack of eloquence?
I don't disagree that any Blago appointment would have been criticized. This is obvious.
The issue of racial inequity is on the basis that there are ZERO African American Senators after Obama left the seat empty.
The racial issue is independent of Burris. It's independent of Blago. The racial issue is whether or not it's acceptable that there are no Blacks in the Senate.
U R addressing 2 different issues. There should be more black people in the Senate.U admit this issue is independent of Burris, yet Rush has decided to conflate the 2 issues 4 his own gain. The IL VP will almost certainly appoint an AA if given the chance once Blago's gone.Calling Reid a racist,or comparing Burris standing out in the rain while two men hold umbrellas over his head to children getting attacked by dogs is beyond the pale.Rush owes every AA an apology. He is clearly a bad person.
You aren't even quoting, nor paraphrasing Rush correctly. Why are you refusing to interpret his comments in the context they were intended? Rush's comment suggested that refusing to seat a solitary Black Senator represents continued racial inequity. Why? Because as unfortunate as it was, the U.S. Senate had ZERO constitutional power to deny Burris his seat. This is what the constitutional scholars are saying. Since this is true, the Senate is merely making a statement. At the expense of an AA.
No, you're wrong. And you're a liar, too. Rush very clearly said a rich man standing out in the rain with two other guys holding an umbrella for him reminded him of children being attacked by dogs in Alabama. That's sick. And there's something deeply wrong with you for defending him.
Words like "liar" and "sick", again, are hyperbolic and demonstrate your inability to formulate a coherent argument based on current fact and historic references. Instead you continue to use bombastic and incendiary language to garner support via emotive influence. And btw, telling someone they're "wrong" does not make it so. Defending free speech and social justice is a noble battle, which btw, I'm intellectually up to. Why don't you try using your rhetoric skill if you possess any.
It would be nice if you had the neurons, the education and the logic to support your argument. All you effectively do is garner support from the already disenfranchised Whites who believe that Blacks are too sensitive about racism.
There are no Black Senators... think about it! Think about South Africa...Crime of Apartheid (wikipedia it and try to assimilate its meaning).
Zero Black Senators.
THINK!
How would you feel if there were ZERO White Senators?
Got it. When a man compares Burris to children getting attacked by dogs, charges of blacks being too sensitive about racism are pretty easy to come up with. Ditto comparing the US to Apartheid. It shows you are shameless and dishonest. As I already said, there is little doubt the IL Lt Gov (sorry I accidentally put VP before, your claim that it invalidates my whole argument is lame as hell) will appoint a black Sen. You always ignore that part.
The idea of using dogs to quell protester during the civil rights movement was that the dogs were used to prevent children from entering school. Children were never actually attacked by the dogs. The dogs were only a deterrent. They were meant to intimidate. And by way of intimidation, it kept them from entering schools. This is why the analogy is used. The intimidation of Burris by Senate "dogs" prevent him from taking the senate seat. I really can't make this any simpler. Get it!
Shame & dishonesty are hyperbolic, and do ZERO to forward your argument. Apartheid in South Africa (SA) denied Black Africans a role in self governance, similar to taxation without representation. In SA, a nation whose population is overwhelmingly Black, there was no representation by Black in politics. By way of analogy, I simply point out Blacks are NOT fairly represented in the Senate in proportion to the numbers in the population. W/ respect to the Senate, an apartheid analogy is apropos.
You're filled with hyperbole, but you're offering little in the way of evidence to support the notion that not ONE SINGLE member of the Senate is AA. How does this not exemplify the notion of racial inequality in this nation?
Why are white so defensive when it comes to racism in this country? If we learned anything from the presidential election is that there is plenty of racism existing in the USA.
Death threats to Obama, CDs from the RNC, i.e., "Barack the Magic Negro.
I never said there is no racial inequality in this country. I said Rush's charges of racism are unwarranted and shameless and clearly wrong on it's face. As I said before and you always ignore, the Senate's reaction would be exactly the same if Blago appointed a white guy. Why should Burris receive special treatment? Frankly the fact that he accepted the nomination from such a dirtbag like Blago (who only ONE WEEK ago Burris said he should step down) reflects very poorly on his character.
You fail to recognize that people like Rush, who is 62 years old, lived through the racism of the 40s, 50s & 60s. If he's sensitive to the slightest hints of racism. I'll give him some leeway. I don't think this is blatant racism, but in light of there being no Black Senators, it's close enough for horseshoes. His point of reference is the racism seen in the 60s, which is why he choses those comparisons in this context.
BTW, his speech is due to salivary gland cancer. Nice work Cenk!
You haven't read my responses since I previously acknowledged that if Burris had been White, the Senate would have responded similarly - that is unless her last name had been Kennedy, or maybe even Jessie Jackson Jr.. They attacked Burris because he was an easy and politically expedient target.
But the Senate's unambiguous denial of a seat, regardless of race, does NOT negate the fact that there are...
ZERO AFRICAN AMERICAN U.S. SENATORS!
If it looks like racism and walks like racism, it is!
What is disgusting is how you object so strongly to the suggestion that race continues to play a role in U.S. politics.
First, as you will you will learn in the weeks to come, the U.S. Senate has ZERO control over the seating. This is a matter for the Illinois State Legislature. Not the U.S. Senate.
You should be ashamed of not knowing the difference between a VP and a Lt. Governor, yet you feel competent enough to comment on this issue. Go back school little boy.
Being an African American (AA) in color but not in ideology places you on shaky ground in making your assertion. Not to mention you are too young to remember or appreciate the challenges Blacks faced.
You state the obvious when you say that I don't speak for all AAs. But you're wrong if you're asserting that AAs don't want a Black Senator in the Senate.
I'd have preferred Jessie Jackson Jr., as most people of Illinois would've prefer, but if Blago had picked him, should he have refused?
Foolish to say...there are history books and resources that teach AA history...and I think my family members lived through it...I think(sarcasm) lol
Did not say AA's do not want a black senator.not any ole black man will do. He has to be more then just black...maybe good judgment an education would help. Blago offered the seat to Rep. Danny K. Davis (black man) first..HE TURNED IT DOWN!! Do your research.
I can say I've learned Egyptology, but I can't say I remember it. Books offer a glimpse at what may have occurred, but not a memory of the event. You may be able to appreciate the challenges faced by Blacks, but unless you experienced them first hand, like Burris, like Rush, you're delegated to second hand appreciation.
Education? Burris has a BA in poly-sci from SIUC and a doctorate of jurisprudence from Howard University... my friend that is an education.
You're making incorrect assumptions. You think that I'm endorsing Blago's choice, or for that matter any of his choices. Blago is reprehensible. And it would have preferable if Burris had not accepted. But those unsavory facts aside, now that the selection has been made, there is no legal recourse - so say the legal scholars. In light of this and the fact that there are NO BLACK SENATORS, it is not only futile for the senate to oppose Burris, but it heightens awareness of social inequities.
UR right, it's about the law. It's about due process for African Americans.
Until you understand the law as it applies to this case, you're likely to be in err.
This will likely end up in the courts, but not in the court of public opinion, which if I'm not mistaken is the full extent of your knowledge - 'your opinion'.
And get over the fact that racism still exists and is the underlying agent in American politics.
You obviously didn't notice that we just had a presidential election. Who won? The winner was chosen because of his intelligence, eloquence and ability. You may have also noticed that his opponent had a lot more money to throw around, but the majority of us voted with our heads and we elected the best person. Racists like you are now in the minority. The majority of Americans have risen above your shallowness.
If all you have to offer this public discourse is sarcasm and insults, you can hardly be considered credible.
The immediate downside of a public forum such as this is the lack of a filter from those who don't truly value freedom of expression.
In this last month, 4-African American men were shot by law enforcement, in 4 separate events. Two of which were killed. They were denied due process.
Thus, Burris must be afforded due process before he's denied a Senate seat, anything less is unjust.
A point about rhetorical protocol, it's be wise to resist the temptation of throwing out red herrings that detract from your argument and weaken it.
Here's the real question: Does the complete absence of African American representation in the U.S. Senate make a convincing argument for racial inequalities in America?
Herein lies the true crux of the matter: Unequal representation.
It's not about Blago, Burris, Rush, or Davis.
It's not enough to be Black w/ an opinion -you must be SMART!
Then argue that he's simply qualified. This isn't a racial issue at all. Hell, the guy would be taking Obama's seat! The real issue here is that Democrats don't want to be connected to Blago. They've tried to distance themselves in every way possible.
Now you can certainly argue that there's no legal reason that they shouldn't seat him, and you'd probably be in the right. But you aren't going to get anywhere by trying to make this a racial issue. That's not the reason he isn't getting the seat.
I'm not here to argue the qualifications of Burris. The range of qualification of existing U.S. Senators covers a broad swath of intellectual and professional competencies. So there's no litmus test for this office.
I make no contention that Blago should have made the appoint. He is a corrupt man. But as I stated before and you've attested to, we have no legal foothold to dispute this.
Irrespective of Burris wouldn't you agree that there should be African American representation in the Senate?
Sure as long as they're qualified. Same goes for people of other races, genders or sexual preferences. And perhaps Burris will be one of those. But it won't happen right now. Blago was just voted to be impeached by a margin of 114-1. The heat around Blago is going to have to die down first before Burris will have a shot. Or really whoever eventually gets the seat.
Tokyo, in terms of ethics as they apply to Blago, I'm in complete agreement with you. I wish Blago had never made an appointment. The issue is whether or not there is legal grounds to reverse his decision and/or not to seat Burris. This is uncharted territory. Read my other post. It's more complicated than you might imagine, and it may require the courts to sort it all out in the context of existing law. They can't create new law to fix an existing problem. It's called ex post facto.
For once I agree you Cenk. You have to understand Chris Matthews is with the far left agenda does talking points not news, and often the mix apples and oranges. Making mountains out of molehills. If their is not drama in the world these guys create it. Bobby Rush is a straight up clown though. I think he is off on that purple sprite. that man is politically and literally drunk!
The problem with people like Rush is that many look at him, and then attach his views as the views of all blacks just because he is black. If Rush was a white person, people would have looked at his words as the views of an individual. Just like they used to take every word that Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton said as the "voice" of black america, until Barrack Obama proved that it was not, and that most black people are more diverse in though.
Rush seemed medicated - not sauced - and looked sick. I turned the channel. I wish Matthews would have passed on doing it. I guess - he wanted to go 2-0 (since he had an excellent interview the day before with Burris' lawyers).
Conservapedia, yeah I read it for humor sue me, had a headline that said the senate was racist for not allowing a black man into the senate. I think if Blago wasn't openly trying to sell the seat to the highest bidder/whoever would've sucked his cock longer then the senate wouldn't care if he was green for Christ sake give it up.
Screw this ass. These guys are an embarrasment to the african americans, an embarrasment to demacrates, and an embarrasment to those who support this guy for no good reason.
You people and your Pro-Israel whining! I guess when it comes to Africa and Sudan the American media is Pro-Arab being that you also dont see anything about the Arab funded genocide in Sudan
Bobby Rush speaks Ebonics and how he became a Congressman is beyond me. Talk about a disgrace. Obama has that non-talking Mexican woman, from East L.A., in charge of the Dept of Labor and then this man pops up. I mean after a non-English speaker like Bush-what happened to repesentatives speaking clear English?
lol

A few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail.

If Burris had any honor he would have refused the appointment. Bobby Rush is an IDIOT. To equate Burris in the rain with police dogs attacking black children is immoral.

AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
And to all of you who claim that Race isn't an issue here... think about it.
A lone Black being denied a Senate Seat by non-Blacks.
It's obvious that there wouldn't have been any question of Burris being accepted if Blago hadn't been accused of wrong doing. But denying a Black man in the face of the complete absence of Black faces in the Senate is a stark reminder of the continued social injustices faced by African Americans.
Btw, members of the Senate admited that Burris called their bluff.

That doesn't mean we need to like Blago.
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
This has been flagged as spam show
It doesn't have any ring of civil rights to it.
TokyoNiGHTS1 3 years ago
I take it you're not African American. When you don't have a single African American U.S. Senator it bears scrutiny. This is not as clearly a non civil rights issue as you'd maintain, since the Congressional Black Congress is calling for his seating. He is not joined at the hip of Burris; Burris has openly criticized Blago. But be that as it may, Blago, whether we like or not, is still the sitting Governor of IL, and as such there no legal precedent to deny his choice.
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
To suggest in any way that this is a Civil Rights issue is a flat-out digusting lie. You aught to be ashamed of yourself. You can't honestly say that if Blago had appointed a white guy the reaction would be any different. You know this. Bobby Rush knows this. The Congressional Black Caucus knows this. Small children know this. This is a naked power grab by Burris and Blago's a corrupt piece of trash, and so is anyone who willingly associates with him, which includes Burris and Rush.
eddiesocket 3 years ago 2
I'm not ashamed of myself. Are you ashamed of your lack of eloquence?
I don't disagree that any Blago appointment would have been criticized. This is obvious.
The issue of racial inequity is on the basis that there are ZERO African American Senators after Obama left the seat empty.
The racial issue is independent of Burris. It's independent of Blago. The racial issue is whether or not it's acceptable that there are no Blacks in the Senate.
Try resisting your patent knee jerk response.
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
U R addressing 2 different issues. There should be more black people in the Senate.U admit this issue is independent of Burris, yet Rush has decided to conflate the 2 issues 4 his own gain. The IL VP will almost certainly appoint an AA if given the chance once Blago's gone.Calling Reid a racist,or comparing Burris standing out in the rain while two men hold umbrellas over his head to children getting attacked by dogs is beyond the pale.Rush owes every AA an apology. He is clearly a bad person.
eddiesocket 3 years ago 2
Defly said.
blaquemark 3 years ago
You aren't even quoting, nor paraphrasing Rush correctly. Why are you refusing to interpret his comments in the context they were intended? Rush's comment suggested that refusing to seat a solitary Black Senator represents continued racial inequity. Why? Because as unfortunate as it was, the U.S. Senate had ZERO constitutional power to deny Burris his seat. This is what the constitutional scholars are saying. Since this is true, the Senate is merely making a statement. At the expense of an AA.
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
No, you're wrong. And you're a liar, too. Rush very clearly said a rich man standing out in the rain with two other guys holding an umbrella for him reminded him of children being attacked by dogs in Alabama. That's sick. And there's something deeply wrong with you for defending him.
eddiesocket 3 years ago
Words like "liar" and "sick", again, are hyperbolic and demonstrate your inability to formulate a coherent argument based on current fact and historic references. Instead you continue to use bombastic and incendiary language to garner support via emotive influence. And btw, telling someone they're "wrong" does not make it so. Defending free speech and social justice is a noble battle, which btw, I'm intellectually up to. Why don't you try using your rhetoric skill if you possess any.
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
It would be nice if you had the neurons, the education and the logic to support your argument. All you effectively do is garner support from the already disenfranchised Whites who believe that Blacks are too sensitive about racism.
There are no Black Senators... think about it! Think about South Africa...Crime of Apartheid (wikipedia it and try to assimilate its meaning).
Zero Black Senators.
THINK!
How would you feel if there were ZERO White Senators?
!!!ZERO BLACK SENATORS!!!
Get it!
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
You always ignore that part.
eddiesocket 3 years ago
The idea of using dogs to quell protester during the civil rights movement was that the dogs were used to prevent children from entering school. Children were never actually attacked by the dogs. The dogs were only a deterrent. They were meant to intimidate. And by way of intimidation, it kept them from entering schools. This is why the analogy is used. The intimidation of Burris by Senate "dogs" prevent him from taking the senate seat. I really can't make this any simpler. Get it!
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
Shame & dishonesty are hyperbolic, and do ZERO to forward your argument. Apartheid in South Africa (SA) denied Black Africans a role in self governance, similar to taxation without representation. In SA, a nation whose population is overwhelmingly Black, there was no representation by Black in politics. By way of analogy, I simply point out Blacks are NOT fairly represented in the Senate in proportion to the numbers in the population. W/ respect to the Senate, an apartheid analogy is apropos.
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
You're filled with hyperbole, but you're offering little in the way of evidence to support the notion that not ONE SINGLE member of the Senate is AA. How does this not exemplify the notion of racial inequality in this nation?
Why are white so defensive when it comes to racism in this country? If we learned anything from the presidential election is that there is plenty of racism existing in the USA.
Death threats to Obama, CDs from the RNC, i.e., "Barack the Magic Negro.
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
I never said there is no racial inequality in this country. I said Rush's charges of racism are unwarranted and shameless and clearly wrong on it's face. As I said before and you always ignore, the Senate's reaction would be exactly the same if Blago appointed a white guy. Why should Burris receive special treatment? Frankly the fact that he accepted the nomination from such a dirtbag like Blago (who only ONE WEEK ago Burris said he should step down) reflects very poorly on his character.
eddiesocket 3 years ago
You fail to recognize that people like Rush, who is 62 years old, lived through the racism of the 40s, 50s & 60s. If he's sensitive to the slightest hints of racism. I'll give him some leeway. I don't think this is blatant racism, but in light of there being no Black Senators, it's close enough for horseshoes. His point of reference is the racism seen in the 60s, which is why he choses those comparisons in this context.
BTW, his speech is due to salivary gland cancer. Nice work Cenk!
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
You haven't read my responses since I previously acknowledged that if Burris had been White, the Senate would have responded similarly - that is unless her last name had been Kennedy, or maybe even Jessie Jackson Jr.. They attacked Burris because he was an easy and politically expedient target.
But the Senate's unambiguous denial of a seat, regardless of race, does NOT negate the fact that there are...
ZERO AFRICAN AMERICAN U.S. SENATORS!
If it looks like racism and walks like racism, it is!
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
What is disgusting is how you object so strongly to the suggestion that race continues to play a role in U.S. politics.
First, as you will you will learn in the weeks to come, the U.S. Senate has ZERO control over the seating. This is a matter for the Illinois State Legislature. Not the U.S. Senate.
You should be ashamed of not knowing the difference between a VP and a Lt. Governor, yet you feel competent enough to comment on this issue. Go back school little boy.
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago

Being an African American (AA) in color but not in ideology places you on shaky ground in making your assertion. Not to mention you are too young to remember or appreciate the challenges Blacks faced.
You state the obvious when you say that I don't speak for all AAs. But you're wrong if you're asserting that AAs don't want a Black Senator in the Senate.
I'd have preferred Jessie Jackson Jr., as most people of Illinois would've prefer, but if Blago had picked him, should he have refused?
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
Too young...nice, I accept the complement.
Clacci34 3 years ago
I can say I've learned Egyptology, but I can't say I remember it. Books offer a glimpse at what may have occurred, but not a memory of the event. You may be able to appreciate the challenges faced by Blacks, but unless you experienced them first hand, like Burris, like Rush, you're delegated to second hand appreciation.
Education? Burris has a BA in poly-sci from SIUC and a doctorate of jurisprudence from Howard University... my friend that is an education.
Someone didn't do his research.
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago

Clacci34 3 years ago
You're making incorrect assumptions. You think that I'm endorsing Blago's choice, or for that matter any of his choices. Blago is reprehensible. And it would have preferable if Burris had not accepted. But those unsavory facts aside, now that the selection has been made, there is no legal recourse - so say the legal scholars. In light of this and the fact that there are NO BLACK SENATORS, it is not only futile for the senate to oppose Burris, but it heightens awareness of social inequities.
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
No it doesn't. Get over the race issue. The issue is about Blago!
cheddyrod 3 years ago
UR right, it's about the law. It's about due process for African Americans.
Until you understand the law as it applies to this case, you're likely to be in err.
This will likely end up in the courts, but not in the court of public opinion, which if I'm not mistaken is the full extent of your knowledge - 'your opinion'.
And get over the fact that racism still exists and is the underlying agent in American politics.
ZERO AFRICAN AMERICAN SENATORS!
Hang your hat on that my unschooled friend.

The majority of Americans have risen above your shallowness.
cheddyrod 3 years ago
If all you have to offer this public discourse is sarcasm and insults, you can hardly be considered credible.
The immediate downside of a public forum such as this is the lack of a filter from those who don't truly value freedom of expression.
In this last month, 4-African American men were shot by law enforcement, in 4 separate events. Two of which were killed. They were denied due process.
Thus, Burris must be afforded due process before he's denied a Senate seat, anything less is unjust.
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago

A point about rhetorical protocol, it's be wise to resist the temptation of throwing out red herrings that detract from your argument and weaken it.
Here's the real question: Does the complete absence of African American representation in the U.S. Senate make a convincing argument for racial inequalities in America?
Herein lies the true crux of the matter: Unequal representation.
It's not about Blago, Burris, Rush, or Davis.
It's not enough to be Black w/ an opinion -you must be SMART!
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago

Then argue that he's simply qualified. This isn't a racial issue at all. Hell, the guy would be taking Obama's seat! The real issue here is that Democrats don't want to be connected to Blago. They've tried to distance themselves in every way possible.
Now you can certainly argue that there's no legal reason that they shouldn't seat him, and you'd probably be in the right. But you aren't going to get anywhere by trying to make this a racial issue. That's not the reason he isn't getting the seat.
TokyoNiGHTS1 3 years ago
I'm not here to argue the qualifications of Burris. The range of qualification of existing U.S. Senators covers a broad swath of intellectual and professional competencies. So there's no litmus test for this office.
I make no contention that Blago should have made the appoint. He is a corrupt man. But as I stated before and you've attested to, we have no legal foothold to dispute this.
Irrespective of Burris wouldn't you agree that there should be African American representation in the Senate?
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago
Sure as long as they're qualified. Same goes for people of other races, genders or sexual preferences. And perhaps Burris will be one of those. But it won't happen right now. Blago was just voted to be impeached by a margin of 114-1. The heat around Blago is going to have to die down first before Burris will have a shot. Or really whoever eventually gets the seat.
TokyoNiGHTS1 3 years ago
Tokyo, in terms of ethics as they apply to Blago, I'm in complete agreement with you. I wish Blago had never made an appointment. The issue is whether or not there is legal grounds to reverse his decision and/or not to seat Burris. This is uncharted territory. Read my other post. It's more complicated than you might imagine, and it may require the courts to sort it all out in the context of existing law. They can't create new law to fix an existing problem. It's called ex post facto.
Cheers!

The problem with people like Rush is that many look at him, and then attach his views as the views of all blacks just because he is black.

As far as msnbc, seems its slowly turning into fox news with this pro israeli agenda, they dont even mention gaza.
