  • So original and such a pure idea without trying to be original or different. Just the power of the concept stands alone against most art that's out there, being so pretentious and acting important. Miru Kim is one of my favorite artists just based on this.

  • good!

  • Why are woman so fixated on their naked body? These interiors would be beautiful itself without any flesh

  • this girl, is special. She is persevere and brave, doing something beautiful that no girls before had ever tried to do

  • Such a brilliant artist. I absolutely love her photos.

  • Whilst some of the work is artistic she shows a lack of respect in some of the places and countries she chooses to expose herself. It is creative in one respect but she is basically an exhibitionist.

  • @showlink but arent all artists exhibitionists, in some way?

  • @Zorsha Lol is this a pun? That's a good response if it is.

  • @showlink uhmm..no.

  • @Zorsha damn I thought you might have had a sense of humour for a moment.

  • Comment removed

  • dude..don't be a douche. it's boring.

  • @Zorsha yep old lady no sense of humour.

  • @showlink hey, fuck you asshole. you have no idea of my age. are you so hellbent on having the last word that you mustmake a complete ass of yourself. Grow up, shithead.

  • @Zorsha Hit a raw nerve? If you want to start being, to use your terminology, a "douche" then expect it back nanna.

  • @showlink borrrring. sounds like someone just needs to go get laid....and get a life.

  • @Zorsha Yep you certainly do sound like you need a bit of the old rumpy pumpy. Mid-life crisis maybe. Last word.

  • This woman is an attention seeker lets face it anyone can get nude and do the same...

  • @johnnycracko just because she is nude does not mean she is seeking attention. her photo are beautiful and tastefull..not exploitive in anyway.

  • @johnnycracko no..they cant. what she is doing is art, not attention-whoring. its ashame how some people are here so immature they cannot look past nudity in a sexual light. Her photos are beautiful. But if you dont like them, go back to your comic books.

  • @Zorsha please go back to the hole you crawled out of. I never said nudity = sex. retard

  • @johnnycracko uhm whatever. again you just prove how immature you are.

  • @johnnycracko shut up please. she takes beautiful pictures.

  • @johnnycracko It's not about the nudity, it's about the fragility the photos represent . You obviously don't understand anything from an artistic point of view so why did you even bother to come to this video ? Your comment just shows your immaturity and lack of intelligence .

  • her job is very interesting

  • i like it

  • wonderful very interesting.

    keep it up Kim

    Regards

    sushil.com

  • Damn! Naked Photos seems so "Creative".

  • I suggest you can add any kind of animal with you . More powerful, more irony.

  • Pretentious little twat stripping to distract herself from her real issues. Nudity can be art... but I've never seen it fail to also be desperate attention-whoring. Pathetic. When (not if, not I-hope, but WHEN) she gets tetanus or some nasty infection, guess who's going to be laughing?

  • unhygienic

  • when many little poor girls are murdered and raped at afghan, those rich young bitchs tried nude show for money. haha. this world is fucked up ! money is all !

  • Taking your clothes if you are a woman, now gets a TED talk??? TED has jumped the shark. Say hi to the Fonz.

  • beautiful !

  • art prooves life isn't enough

  • Get these crazy people out of society. Art has no value.

  • omfg she is arrested haha. she isn't even artist. and I heard that she has some mental disease.

  • Comment removed

  • Her works are interesting, all but her pig sty one which appears degrading

  • Why debate the funding or the artist. Just enjoy the raw natural beauty that the living form brings to such dead spaces and places. Are we that out of touch? If not, we sure are close!

  • so inspiring!

  • Miru Kim is the daughter of Yong-Ok Kim, who is very famous in Korea. Mr Kim is really one of a kind in many ways. I was quite surprised that his daughter became a news appearing as ar artist.. I enjoyed this clip and really appreciate your uploading this. Watchingthis clip, I quite have the sense of who she is. very interesting...

    Thanks...

  • crazy..

  • man her art is great, but also this makes koreans look bad to the non artsies

  • @istinkinyoface I think most people are smart enough to realize that this is the work of a single individual and not representative of Koreans as a whole. I'm not Korean & would not expect other Koreans to be posing nude in tunnels.

  • I swear if she knew any martial arts then she would be perfect for me in every single way. I love her right now and I would love to talk with her.

  • Mixed feelings. Part of me feels that posing nude in tunnels is sort of gratuitous. Part of me is mesmerized by this presentation. Wondering if our tax dollars are paying for this, or whether she did. If the former, I might be disturbed. If the latter, I am more admiring of her persistence and commitment to her message -- despite my uncertainty of how to respond to this message.

  • @straightarrow372 I dont know where she is getting funding, and I am actually wondering about that too, but I know she's from privileged family with Harvard educated parents, so I'm guessing she is not using taxpayers' money.

  • What an amazing woman, as well as artist.

  • Loooooooovveee what shes doing feel the same about subject

  • I am still a big fan Miru. Very proud of you.

  • @Rezza0

Ezactly! I am an artist myself. It sometimes calls for taking a chance.

  • Speaking as an artist, to put yourself nude in your own work, is really risky.

  • way of a woman always exposing her sexuality as a vunerable gentle creature as a symbol of existence kind gentle etc ..................each seems pretty ferrocious celebration of animal instincts of eastern philosophies ..fascinating ,only in america.funny horrifying beastallious frigidly eastern coldblodded selfmutation at the very self of perceived identity due to cultural background and genetic trace of abuse very corrupted ready to betray for a better choice in every where possible

  • she seems a little timid but courageous at the same time. very nice pictures.

  • inspiring and daring.

loving the picture with the bones. its... beautiful

  • this woman is amazingly creative i love her work

  • brave woman.. who loves pushing boundaries.. just imagine checking out these dark random places.. naked. Hope she doesn't cross path with seedy people during her expedition.

  • amazing photos, except for the girl, dont get me wrong, simply sex sells. and clothes dont necesary dates the pic, her hair cut does. search for artificial soldier by karezoid on deaviant art, that dates the picture? i don't think so.

  • i love it

  • not only are the pictures "art," she also is "the art"

  • really a creative idea and amazing piece of work. very inspiring!

  • I wanted it without clothing....cause that would garner more attention...

  • Jowa.

  • Amazing, so many messages from God. So many layers, God works in mysterious ways.!

    God bless her

  • Amazing work! Greetings from all brazilian artists!

  • Yours is my ultimate favourite coment on whole Youtube :-). ..Let´s be inspired..

  • Wow, this is a very courageous artist. She has produced very haunting images!

  • How much fame would CERN have gotten if it was just a bunch of middle aged overweight nude men making tunnels underground? What if Brian Greene was just a middle aged overweight nude man?

  • I am always struck by the ignorance and lack of intelligence possessed by those who engage in comment "wars" on YouTube but I can't help but remark upon some of the things written in response to this video. Miss Kim's photos reveal exceptional talent and skill as well as the courage required to document these places. I pity the individuals who have nothing better to offer than offensive pornographic references. Don't watch it if you don't have anything positive to offer.

  • How is this "TED"-worthy? We know you watched this for the skin ;)

  • Try pushing the button on a camera that produces anything like the classic photos that even an uncultured boob would recognize. The fact that you celebrate the inability to differentiate a Rothko from a drop cloth is cause for shame, not pride.

  • im white and i dont have a highschool diploma

  • If you expect people to take you seriously hold off on your judgementalism, prejudices and open your mind up just a little. You know nothing about me. You assume that I am white and bourgeois because I am not a college dropout. Your attitutde is insulting to every member of every minority that has worked hard to make something of themselves. FYI, I'm hispanic and migrated here with nothing but the clothes on my back 40 years ago. Perhaps she sees something in your home that you don't! Grow up!

  • HONDURAS!!!YEAH!!!! i love her work, takeon things and creativity! some pictures made me think she was a bit filthy hahaha good series tho :D respect, fan xx cat

  • This is REAL ART people. You may disagree, you may critique it, you may even hate it, but it is art and expresses Miru Kim's feelings, emotions and responses to the different places. I am an architect as well as a photographer and as such, totally fascinated by her work.

  • I agree with velodoccitane. He put it kind of harshly, but is he wrong? ethicsg, you confuse being an "internet critic" with critical thinking. If you care about art and it's implications, then you need to think critically. So many people are calling themselves "artists" today that the term is virtually meaningless. If Miru called herself something more mundane, like a businessperson, an academic or an entertainer, then it wouldn't matter. She's really a combination of the three.

  • I think he probably is wrong. I don't THINK that it's the fact that she's asian and female that makes her presence in the pictures (I could be working subconsciously of course), so much that it's something human and... frail amongst the ruins.

Also, while I'm very much of the "if it isn't a pretty landscape it's not REAL art" school of thought, this comes close, and seems to hit most of the "art buttons" of any other given definition...

  • Good video, but why the nudity? It offends me slightly. I know it's art etc. but i think you should look at the consequences. Look at the comments. They aren't compliments for your work. One does tend to think that this is a publicity stunt.

  • she explained the nudity. when a person wears clothes in a photo it dates the photo. she wanted the feel of what she's doing to be a little more timeless. She also said that she got tired of just photographing the space and wanted to add a character to it so she chose herself as a "creature" in the picture. I don't want to go so far as to say it's brilliant, but very clever nonetheless. The act in and of itself I think adds a particular sincerity to the project.

  • I was thinking of doing a short documentary on city rats. Interesting to see that someone else was inspired by such a hardy surviving species.

  • 11:46 Victor Hugo never wrote about the resistance in Les Miserables!

He died in 1895 and would have had a hard time relating the second world war

  • i want to hug her so much

please let me hug her for two hour

  • amazing

  • you dont need to be naked to get a homeless man to rape you. ho bag put your clothes back on

  • absolutely beautiful.

Stunning pictures, they simply capture so much more as soon as a human element is introduced.

Five stars. I really enjoyed this one :)

  • nice story of the homeless man

  • someone just wanted to get naked in public

  • She had learnt the whole speech by heart! She also seems very timid.

Nice pics of these tunnels, I love how she references Berlin where several horror movies have been shot in tunnels underneath the earth.

  • Wow, those photos are just amazing! I think making such places many people consider ugly look beautiful is somnething only persons with great creative and visionary potentials can do.

If I had the chance I'd wish to join such a group of artists.

(But I would certainly not look as attractive on the images... Perhaps I could take the photos)

  • 8.14 is her pussy hairT_T

    so cute pussy ,i want i want!!!~~

9.10 she is so sexy, i want marry her!

  • her english so good

  • she is beautiful

    gorgogeous:)

  • I LOVE HER she is korean

  • She's created some very fantastic works of art! There's so much emotion in her captures and her use of herself in the pictures is really breathtaking. I applaud her bravery, navigating the catacombs and capturing herself resting on the remains of probably thousands of individuals.

  • i think her work's amazing. i've not seen photos like those.. i love to explore the cities, but i never thought of really venturing the underground or forbidden places. she's beautiful in her own "odd" ways and i love her bravery. she's obviously a very intellectual person..

  • because nobody else does it, she did it, and she did it great. i salute her for her bravery and an alternative perspective on things, you don't get to appreciate the beauty and the melancholy of the old tunnels and ruins everyday, aye?

i'm sure this video had opened all our eyes to some point. and that's what TED is all about :)

  • Wow, I would love to visit all those places. She's obviously nervous, but I find it kinda cute.

  • It's Ironic.

That she's so nervous to speak just in front of a couple hundreds of people with clothes on, yet have no trouble with posing naked in photographs that will be seen by thousands?

  • well, what's so ironic about that? i dunno - i have pics of myself naked that i wouldn't hesitate to show others, but i find it tough to speak in front of a whole crowd. a lot of people find public speaking intimidating.

  • except she is not beautiful. she is somewhat above the average asian.

  • the most interesting abandined place to explore is the human mind!

  • Hah. Sir, you nailed that indeed.

  • Want to explore the human mind?

Well, here's a place to begin: How many angels can stand on the tip of a pin?

  • standing room only for fools !

  • Perfect!!!!!

  • I don't think it is interesting enough to be a subject of tedtalks

  • agreed, matyuk54; the taste3 conference talks were utterly useless---like this presentation, it's just filler to meet the upload requirements & keep subscribers watching. It [the presenters & their subjects) was nice for the last few weeks, though.

  • I dunno, I mean it's a bit different to the usual style, but they are interesting enough in their way, and it's nice to see people talking articulately about ANYTHING these days.

  • I love exploring abandoned places. Factories are my favourite places to explore.

  • you know what?

being naked is not that easy even if you

are an artist. I think that she wants to show us something about urban nature created by human and fragle human body .

  • All it takes is a naked chick, and you can sell anything!

  • I think she found the magic formula: boring or ugly environment + beautiful female body = art :)

  • Chicks love being naked.

  • Guys love chicks (who love) being naked. :)

  • For the first few minutes I thought she was a shy person.

  • then you notice shes displaying pictures of herself in the nude...

  • Yeah... I rather suspect she's both shy AND an exhibitionist (OK, not really an exhibitionist, and I get the feeling she's ALONE and naked 99% of the time, but you know what I mean). Some people just don't like talking in front of people, and maybe she feels embarrassed not so much about being naked as in observing people and interacting with them as they see her nakedness.

  • really beautiful artwork. definately an artist

  • who cares about her hair

  • I think she is absolutely amazing! I would really like to meet her and see more of her work, and talk to her about the ruins. Going to those places... I think it would be an incredible experience. I'm officially jealous!

Too bad that most people who have commented seem to have missed the point of this speech entirely...

  • humanizing derelict rubble....big ideas, hard to truly translate to the average joe...but I appreciate the communication of these beautiful ideas nonetheless. she couldnt have made those places fun to look at through any other means in my opinion. nobody asked her, she didnt have to but she did, so good for her. nice ass too. ;)

  • i find ur comment Pretentious

  • i find ur capitalization Retarded

  • I really enjoyed your work. Please keep it up. Thank you.

  • Wow she's beautiful

  • That is some seriously interesting photography. To yego and funkynotayunkie, I think she's going for a juxtaposition in these photos. The use of herself is a matter of necessity, as she was doing her work alone with a timer... but the point is somewhat in the contract between a healthy young female figure and the derelict buildings which are genderless, aged, decomposing. Really lovely work.

  • I agree with funkynotayunkie. Twe swan and rats belong in the pictures, not the girl. she looks like a tourist.

  • Yego2! This is her individual expression of art. This is what makes these abandon places fill with life. I feel this contrast is quite unique and poignant.

  • and I'm giving my individual perception of her artwork. There's already plenty of life in those places, but the life from she is bringing in the picture looks out of place. Her carefully combed hair and her postures give her away. A homeless drug addict would've looked more at home out there.

  • that's your entirely subjective opinion

  • absolutely. and since when is art anything but subjective?

  • She was not attempting to fit in, she was contrasting her soft and nude body against a harsh environment.

  • ok. thanks.

  • Very interesting but i thing in these pictures she is an alien and the homeless is reality so he should be in the picture, it depends on how you look at it but still impresive

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • Yeah ... what a loser ... traveling the world pursuing her art... speaking at TED ... getting paid big money to do what she loves ... she should be crammed up in a little office cubicle, pondering her purpose between deadlines, fighting commuters on the underground and considering whether her retirement funds will be sufficient, while she watches YouTube clips of interesting people.

  • Actually, I believe this is a reply to a discussion that took place early on this comment section.

It doesn't apply to Miru Kim, rather, crossingthechannel was voicing his disgust of either me or semiliteratedgod (its not entirely clear which).

  • @DavidMTRutten, why are you always so "smart"?

remarkably it's always the thirdworld trash, those dumb, ignorant, lazy, filthy, hateful little pricks that are trolling on youtube

you really should have a threesome somewhere with thelleht from Papua New Guinea and your dumb whore of a "girlfriend" (which in reality is your fat faggot companion)

    *pukes*

  • @semiliteratedgod

"remarkably it's always the thirdworld trash, those dumb, ignorant, lazy, filthy, hateful little pricks that are trolling on youtube."

I wish there was a mental mirror that I could put up to make you understand the absurdity and blatant idiocy of that statement.

  • sorry butthurt scumbag, but it is the truth, it's overwhelmingly those filthy thirdworld people that are trollin'...

  • Right... thanks for clearing that up ;)
