This concert is a landmark. Myself at the time disliked Hot Space but years later I realized how they were trying to push boundaries and break the mould of boring rock'n'roll that had taken the scene by assault with "hair bands" and rap music (another misunderstood type of music at the time). It became one of my favourite albums. Funny how the fans that praised so much Queen in the early years because they were ahead of their time turned their backs to changes in the 80's.

@WASPS1867 I was also at this gig and it was NOT full at all. Queen had just released 'Hot Space' and it and they were anything but cool at the time. Freddie even refers to the general feeling at the time during the gig. I believe there was just above 40,000 there which is indeed about two thirds capacity. Queen were great as usual though.

@alnomesamy We had to go thru customs and checkpoints. One time the agent wanted to know what the "breast" were. Freddie sometimes wore fake breast when singing "I want to break free" , and he had about 50 pair to choose from. Of course they were all in the front of the trailer. We had to unload and reload the semi-trailer so this guy could see them for himself. Not sure if he didn't believe us or if he was a pervert.

Funny stories from the road. I'd do it all again in a second!

In his time he was acknowledged far greater than Bach (which mostly used the fugue technique to cover left hand instead of actually composing extra melodies. Plus Bach didn't even invent the fugue as most people claim he did without knowing about music) until recent times due to media, disc companies, etc.

However by stating that "humans can live with one composer: Bach" you are saying he's the "best" as in everyone considers him the greatest instead of just liking him. While it was acknowledged in the past that the two other baroque Masters were greater than him in skill. That's just a fact. It's alright that people prefer Bach but it doesn't change facts.

@helmusico In my opinion I think Haendel is the greatest and I envy him deeply as I find composing very difficult (I'm a keen composer in all kinds of keys instruments) Anyone can compose 1000+ pieces if you just make scrap and use fugue to save time. However a VERY few amount of people can actually compose quality like Haendel.

However if today people took music as seriously as classical composers did (they could write down a whole orchestra with hearing it just ONCE. In defence of Queen there was no way they were at low point it must have been at around this time Under Pressure had gone to number 1 in the UK charts. The era of punk had come and gone and Queen were one of few established bands in the punk era to come out of it very well (WWRY, WATC, AOBTD etc). The New Wave (lol Old Wave now) phenomenon was responsible along with the success of AOBTD (a dance style track) was the motivation behind Hot Space which killed them in the US.

the strange thing was that Queen were at probably their lowest point in 1982. This concert was only about two thirds full. Queen were not 'cool' to the general population and a lot of their fans were put off by the Hot Space album which contained a lot of funk/disco stuff! It was only after live aid in '85 that absolutely everyone wanted to see them after seeing what a lot of them didnt know before. That this was by a long way the greatest live performer(s) there ever was.
