I know kids at my school who are my age (16) that became "Christians" over the summer because they went to some youth camp. Some of these people are idiots and know nothing but dance around thinking they are gods children even though they go to parties and drink like some teenagers do. Their youth camp is a joke it's just filled with guys who are like 19 trying to get with some 15-16 year olds it's disgusting. Some of the 19 year olds are dating the girls at my school
all religions are cults, they all tell you how to think and in some way how to act. if there is a god let him show you the way not some guy with a book
many atheists have became so after reading the holy books of their family's religion and found them wanting,
I am a former member of a religious cult( islamic). Thanks for the internet we can now do our homework. Please do the best that you can to teach your children while they are young. I hope that none of your family goes thru what i and my son have been through. I am going to have to spend a lifetime of healing to get over the experience.
They also target the vulnerable and easily led. The Islamic based cults have brainwashing techniques that are scary. Problem is that people are always looking for something to believe in. So you will never stop these people from spreading their doctrine. The worst are the satanic and racist based cults.
In terms of this discussion, yes. The key here is, are you free to make the choice about your belief system, or are you being subtly manipulated over time to change your beliefs to suit an outside influence (person or group).
And of course, we have all used our freedom at one time or another to make less-than-healthy choices, eh? ;-) But then we bear the consequences.
It is about personal freedom, personal autonomy, and personal responsibility.
I am in agreement with you about personal responsibility however in some cases children are introduced into this mass of confusion and they do not have the intelligence and experience to stand up for themselves. So therefore it is important that we educate the mainstream on this issue because it is a problem.
You are a well spoken intelligent woman. :) Excellent video. All faiths, even Wiccan or other Pagan groups can have a "leader" who seeks for control only, and become a destructive cult.---Oops, you just said this! :)
But thank you for your vid being so well thought out and understandable.
No..I have been doing reading for several years on the subject so my thinking was going in that direction. You put it in a way that is very easy to understand. People are too quick to judge those in "controlling" relationships...they need to be patiently educated...
You've got it -- it is so hard to see people, especially teens, who don't understand the insidious subtly of an extreme manipulator, whatever their ideology may be.
And you are doing the right thing for yourself; gathering information, evaluating it, seeing if it makes sense.
Well, weird and stupid don't actually make a cult, although from the outside, many destructive cultic groups do look that way. It's all about whether a person has been subtly stripped of their ability to make decisions for themselves.
I hope your cousins are just odd, but if they are involved in a destructive group, I hope someone helps them regain their autonomy.
Take it from me, losing the "who" of who you are is a nasty thing to go through when all is said and done.

I think ideology is important too. What if the ideology is negative and destructive?

I, too, believe Christianity is more of a cult than a religion, but the insult was uncalled for.

Thanks again, and I have to ask -- Did it surprise you how many different types of destructive cults / groups there are, Fireflyzip?
