  • great-!!

  • I basicly use a simple Behringer Vamp2 trhough a mixer unit right into the computer, and I use the built in delay. The sound wasn't recorded by the camera.

  • Classic rockabilly sound excellent!!

  • Damn, I just can't stop watching this video. It just rocks.

  • really cool

  • this is totally awsome!!!

in my opinion i think rockabilly is a mixture of rock hilbilly and the blues right?

  • Well yea, thats a more literal meaning. Its that wild 50s style rock and roll.

  • Rockabilly draws on musical influences from both black and white cultural influence, thats why it's such great music =) It is a music with no color.

  • Agreed, it calls upon Country, Blues, Rock & Roll, Jazz, and a host of other influences depending on the performer. I think that was a nice piece and people shouldn't judge the performer based on the color of their skin but by the quality and heart of their music.

  • No Scotty Moore created this style of guitar playing. White boy no doubt. This player rocks! I love them all but lets see BB, Chuck, RJ or any of the others play like this.

  • LOPL

  • you hate yourself?

  • maybe if i was white

  • "My Baby Left Me?"

  • yes!

  • all i can say is.....DAMMIT BOY! sounds great

  • hey petegorilla what is name on the song and where i can get it

  • great playing!

  • please put up more videos like this also just wondering how long did it take to develop the chicken picken technique

  • Nice playing but please tell me...

How does this differ country guitar chicken pickin?

Sounds exactly the same to me.

I think true rockabilly guitar has more JAZZ chordings/fills/licks etc

    Watch Brian Setzer.

This sounds like Albert Lee or one of those other country telecaster guys.

  • Hi,

You ara absolutely right. This is somewhere between country ckinken pickin and rockabilly.

The backgraound music is a Scotty Moore style rockabilly and needs this kind of a picking.

Check out my other videos, especially Rockabilly Guitar 2 for more licks.

  • What song is that

  • Cool video great guitar playing thanks for posting

  • Your playing is truly amazing! 5* BTW, is this a Gretsch 6120 Japan reissue of the early 90s? (I'm asking cuz I've got a 6120 from 1991 and your guitar kinda looks like mine, lol). If yes, can you tell me if you use the stock Filtertron pickups or did you exchange them for TV Jones. That would be really helful. Thanks, man!!

  • Hi,

This gretsch is a 97' 6120 and I use the bone stock filtertrons. Of course, I adjusted them for better sound.

  • what effects do you have to use to get that rockabilly sound?

  • Actually this is just a Behringer Vamp2 amp simulator and the built in delay effect. I didn't use any other effects here just a Boss V-wah for a few seconds.

  • amazing!!

  • now that's what i call rockabilly

  • Hey! this is great! great playing and a great cutting tone. What pickup do tou use for this? Bridge?

  • I use the bridge pickup for this one. I think that has mor dinamics for the low strings. Better for bass lines for fingerpicking

  • Great! Thanks!

  • Hell yeah!

  • whats the name of the song? you play very good!! and whats the name of the guitar i like that sound i would like to have same sound and guitar

  • the song is by Elvis Presley and named: My babe left me!

    good rockin for you man!!

  • and the guitar is probably a gretch..

  • This is a mix a the Scotty Moore style picking, and som chicken picking scales.

He uses that kind of stuff in Mystery Train, My baby Left me etc

  • nice improv on that elivs song m8 keep it up

so this foos whats that hillbilly musics all about!!!!

  • what kind og guitar is that?

  • this is a 1997 Gretsch 6120

  • Hey man that is cool. Are they tv jones pickups.

  • no, they are not Tv Jones. They ar 1997 filtertrones mad in 1997. Japanese I think. But I dont really care. I love the sound.

  • Hungarian Powa ;)

  • Go cat Go!!!

Great playing man. I just got a White Falcon because I caught the Rockabilly bug. Was going to get a Brain Setzer model the but WF was just sitting there and cooing my name LOL. What kind of echo are you using? it sounds killer.

    SotR

  • Hey SotR

    Thanks for the nice comment.

You will be surprised by the gear I am using here. It is just a simple Behringer Vamp2 amp simulator and the built in cheap delay effect.

I think sometimes you can do great sound with cheap stuff. Its matter of taste.

  • cheap stuff? thats the way i roll hahaha

  • WHOLEY TITS THIS IS SWEET, Nice playing bud

  • You guys are one of my favorite bands.

  • What are the chances of Gorilla playing in the U.S?

  • Good playing what kind of gretsch is this

  • Pete Gorilla? He is from Budapest, Hungary currently living in Can.

  • That's right:)

  • Szeva Gorilla,

Horasz vagyok:) Iden jottok? lesz koncert?:D

  • Sajnos nem. De ugy nez ki, hogy 2009 nyaran hazakoltozunk ket evre, es akkor a Gorilla teljes erobedobassal beindul. (Csaladi ok miatt koltozunk haza, felesegem edesanyja halalos beteg). Es akkor rengeteget jatszuunk majd. A kovetkezo gorilla fellepes 2008 oktober 4-en lesz Hamburgban, ahol a Gorilla 4 ev szunet utan ismet szinpadra all, a Kings of Psychobilly VIII festival kereteben, mint headliner band. Nagy lelkesedessel nezek a koncert ele.

  • That is what he tells people , but really he is from Newport , Wales, where Rockabilly started in the 40`s Johnny Cash and Elvis (or Rhys Evans as he was known then ) took the sound with them when they moved from Llandudno to America. Hope that clears it up for you

  • No, this is the truth. I am a Hungarian, the guitarist and singer for the psychobilly band Gorilla, and I am not from Newport. I live in Cambridge Ontario, Canada, for 8 years now.

  • pete your guitar playing is fantastic.

Of course , technically Canada belongs to Great Britain , of which Wales is the Capital

so I guess we are both right.

Keep posting your vids. If anyone wants me to translate the welsh text above I will be happy to. Did you know when Elvis joined the Welsh Infantry in 1961 he was stationed in Llandridnod Wells? Can you play any Tom Jones songs?

  • Recently Ive got a telecaster, so in the next couple of weeks I will post some new telecaster videos

  • Ive just got a new Telecaster and I will post few new Tele rockabilly videos soon

  • look forward to it . I have an OLD telecaster which is great. just bought a gretsch Chet atkins hollow body but I am scared to play it because it is too shiny
