@aiayumi Contretenors are not certenly substitute of castrato. It is enother kind of instrument. For example- castrato like grand piano, female voices as piano and contretenors like harpsichord. Not literally, it is only sugestion that trained opera head voice is not worse or better- it is different. When I compare 15 yo voice of Legun brothers (Nel Profondo) and Clint van der Linde et this age- Clint's voice was natural, rich, plump. Leguns sing hard, packed voice but it has charm!
if you think that his voice sounds like a female voice, its because you doesnt understand nothing about that... hes an amazing contratenour.. the best i've ever listened to...
My dear Philippe, I love you so much. You look veyy gay and sing like a true castrato. You are so feminine and cute like a true woman. A true French diva. You sound so nice and kind. Your beautiful feminine arms "sing" too. Your lips are so sexy. I'm all excited. I want to marry you...
This aria is sung by a prince, now revealed as the illegitimate son of the sultan, in "La verita in cimento". Suddenly, he has lost the prospect of not only inheriting his father's throne but also marrying the beautiful princess. He is very angry with the princess for seemingly ready to obey the sultan's wish that she should marry the other son who had been hitherto brought up as the illegitimate son but who in fact is the son born to the Sultanas.
It's like anything really, if you practice it becomes easier. Falsetto isn't really that unheard of to use although he does have insane precision and I'm not 100% but I believe this part was written for a male voice.
No, women singing in the same range have a different tone. He's just using the generally neglected upper range that almost all men actually have and never bother to develop.
Should i speak my word or should i shut my mouth!! how many time i must say this word but i will say it again Philippe Jaroussky he's the best singer in this century and spicily when he sing for Vivaldi and Handel.
I think maybe you didn't hear the album for Philippe Jaroussky "the heros" by Vivaldi the album who won the acadmey music in 2007 you should listen for that album after that drop it your comments about Philippe.
And I think u didn't hear the CD Kantate, Bach, Vivaldi and Händel of Scholl. Because if u did u should be in love with Andreas's voice:) But beside that, I personally don't understand why Jarousski is as popular as this because i don't like his sound at all. Far from it..
I like Andreas Scholl but i prefer Philippe and i hear Scholl voice when he sing by Vivaldi "Stabat Mater" and other works and i didn't said even now i hate scholl as you did!!
Andreas Scholl and Philippe Jaroussky are the best countertenors in the world.Andreas has maybe better voice but Jaroussky is probable better musician.
Has somebody heard the recording of this wonderful aria sung by Sara Mingardo? In my opinion, she sings it MUCH better! In contrast, Monsieur Jaroussky's voice always seems so "under pressure" and totally lacks sonority!

@2010wieliczka suplement- Clint van der Linde had the same parametrs as young castrato, Legun brothers are clasical contretenors.

I think his role was meant to be sung by a castrato. Good for Mr. Jaroussky he did not have to go through that.
