@aiayumi Contretenors are not certenly substitute of castrato. It is enother kind of instrument. For example- castrato like grand piano, female voices as piano and contretenors like harpsichord. Not literally, it is only sugestion that trained opera head voice is not worse or better- it is different. When I compare 15 yo voice of Legun brothers (Nel Profondo) and Clint van der Linde et this age- Clint's voice was natural, rich, plump. Leguns sing hard, packed voice but it has charm!

This aria is sung by a prince, now revealed as the illegitimate son of the sultan, in "La verita in cimento". Suddenly, he has lost the prospect of not only inheriting his father's throne but also marrying the beautiful princess. He is very angry with the princess for seemingly ready to obey the sultan's wish that she should marry the other son who had been hitherto brought up as the illegitimate son but who in fact is the son born to the Sultanas.

It's like anything really, if you practice it becomes easier. Falsetto isn't really that unheard of to use although he does have insane precision and I'm not 100% but I believe this part was written for a male voice.

Je ne comprends ce qui peut tant plaire dans cette voix. Ce n'est pas bien difficile de chanter comme cela. Je trouve même que les liaisons sont imparfaites. Seuls les "graves" de cette voix sont intéressants. Pour le reste pas besoin d'être grand chanteur pour faire beaucoup mieux ... à mon goût
