this sounded like it blended well but it lacked maturity. find a deeper resonating tone that seems to float above your head. does that make sense? ya probably not but thats my opinion. kthanks :)
Dude, that is a lot of people, I think it wouldve been better if each highschool brought 8 people instead of 30, but hey.. That's just my opinion, at least they sounded good
aww I miss this! I know you can't because of copyright issues but I wish I could have gotten a copy of the command performance! thats was such an amazing year for me and my choir!
Impressive! Interesting timbre, very bright. Tempos were faster than I'm used to but the conductor probably made the choice to keep the song momentum up for this age group. Nice work!
I remember my choir director pushing us to perfection so we would be ready to perform at this concert. I remember taking a moment in the middle of this song to just listen to what I was a part of. What I heard brought a tear to my eye. To bring 600 of us from all different schools, give us two days to practice together and then have it turn out like that was truly a miracle. My favorite song we sang that night was the slave song. Though I can't recall its title.
I know what you mean... we were worked pretty hard on this one. :) The song you are thinking of is "Keep your Lamps"... I'll just never forget Mr. Melton: "Trimmed and BAHRNIN!"
Ijust remembered. I did sing "Sing Me To Heaven" within the past year. It was with the Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church choir under Barry Oliver, and it was at a memorial service of the mother of one of our choir members. Presbyterians call funeral or memorial services a service of the "Witness to the Resurrection." And this great choral anthem fits. And it fits with just about any size or age group. I have also met Daniel Gawthrop and sung a number of his works. Praise Be To God!"
"Sing Me To Heaven" by Gawthrop is one of my all time favorite choral anthems. I sang it many times with the Hagerstown (MD) Choral Arts with Greg Shook and with the Mercersburg (PA) Area Community Chorus under Richard Rotz.I now live in Asheville, NC and sing with the Asheville Choral Society under Lenora Thom andthe Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church Choir with Barry Oliver. I'm looking forward to singing it again under one of these two fine music directors. Praise Be to God!
this is one of the most touching songs i had the plesure to sing with my HS Chambersingers. this is a large group that proforms this very well. my group was really small (21) the different sizes really give it a deferent feel.
i sung this in my schools chorus and at my grandmothers funral with a group of others. this was good but the basses were a little soft but all in all very good performance.
Wow... it's hard enough to get a small group to sing this, let alone 600! Although I think some important words and phrases in this song were sung through a little too fast, the students blended very well and sounded wonderful :)

It baffles me why the conductor is talking to the students. Shouldn't he be talking to the audience?

@Tan1723 Hi Tan1723. Interesting observation. Yes, it is a bit unusual for the director to speak to the choir! ^U^

Consider that there are 600 kids here. With that many, so many things coulda gone wrong, at least you guys stayed together, right?

way too fast, not mournful enough. the cutoffs are a little rough, there should be more pause in between the breaks.

I agree we went far too fast.

in my opinion, the sounds from all sections are too little and bright.
they need more head resonance and raise their soft palate to warm up the sound.
and there aren't really any dynamics. it all seems to be the same dynamic

Basses are a little too heavy in the opening "In response..."
