nice idea and well done..allow me to say that there is still a lot of powder inside...in 0:20 i would stay closer to beet and would like to hear that growing mystic of the Waldstein...

@mistertom92 If u played the piano urself u would probably know this has nothing to do with acting... I can only speak for myself, but when i play difficult pieces, i am so completely in it that i could not at the same time focus on how it looks, even if i wanted. I do alot of crazy swaying or leaning forward (at silent passages) on my chair aswell - especially when i'm alone ;-) - but just in order to help getting the best sound out of it ;-) sry for the long text^^

The Waldstein sonata has always been my favourite piece by Beethoven, and this short interpretation does that feeling no harm at all. Ms Matsumoto has a brilliant style that brings this beautiful sonata into a new age. I especially found the variation from 1:00 to 1:30 ish very romantique.
If you hate imagination and just want to hear this 'as written' in the original score go look up Gilels recording of this. I personally am going to enjoy both.
@theclandestinum Who do you think are to think you have the right to post such a vulgar comment? The Adolf Hitler of classical music? Shame on you! The piano girl was great!
@theclandestinum Who do you think are to think you have the right to post such a vulgar comment? The Adolf Hitler of classical music? Shame on you! The piano girl was great!
I don't see what everyone's problem is. I might not prefer this style of music to the original, but it's an arrangement, the same way Liszt, Brahms, and even Bach arranged other people's music. Besides, it is so different from the original - it only uses thematic material and the development of the piece is not at all the same, so it's not like it's just some rehash of Beethoven or something. Kudos to her for trying to do something new.
I think its a bit unlucky to use your obvious great talent to jazz up such well known masterworks because listeners, ( at least its the case for myself) can only feel it as a decrease in quality when you change the well known perfect notes of beethoven. maybe you should rather try to compose own pieces or work on pieces that are already a bit "jazzy" and not such classical pieces like beethovens, that gain there quality by a strict rhythmical structure and melodic line. but thats just my opinion
I agree that these are masterpieces where the artist needs to take credit, in addition to the composer. This young lady has motivated me to learn these composition. Caroline M. Neal, piano/organ instructor
What I'd like to know is why she doesn't market these as her own compositions - these deserve to be praised (greatly) on their own merit, rather than being arrangements. They're more like original compositions, inspired by certain movements.
They are amazing! And she should certainly be working with the Square Enix team - I'd buy Final Fantasy just for the soundtrack if she was playing! This piece is amazing. I want to see loads more! :D
@712Stephen Point taken, but aren't there many other artists who re-use classical pieces and market them (successfully) anyway, still in good conscience? The two most prominent examples that spring to mind are Evanescence's 'Lacrymosa' (based on the movement of the same name in Mozart's 'Requiem') and Barry Manilow's 'Could it be Magic' (based on Chopin's Prelude no.20 in C minor), which, although heavily based on something else, are liked as pieces of music in their own right. Best wishes :-)
