Gyles to me is a very typical upperclass minister, he comes accross as being so out of touch with normal regular people. Who the fuck doesnt know what a gloryhole or prince albert is?
@jedi01sith Well, I could ask my dad, and I will guarantee he wouldn't know what a gloryhole is. He is very working class from Paddington, London. Not everyone knows what a gloryhole is.
@jedi01sith I didn't until I saw QI. I still don't know for sure what a gloryhole is, but I have a reasonable guess. Remember... yours is not the only country, language, or culture out there.
@jedi01sith :( What a terrible way to live. I'm sorry you feel that way, and I hope eventually you come to understand that "my way" is not synonymous with "the only way" or "the best way". Until then, you have my sympathy.
I like Gyles. I like the humor and all of this show, but I am more interested in the Quite Interesting facts that we learn about: Gyles being so knowledgeable as he is, there's no reason for me not to like him. :D
I love how Gyles tries to be dirty... and is instantly out-dirtied by every other person in the show (particularly Stephen). Must admit to having spent the last seven series hoping that he wouldn't be back; he is quite dull.
Always nice to see Bill Bailey, though! And Stephen's tie. :)
Gyles Brandreth is exactly how I imagine a stereotypical Tory to be. With his 'African handshakes' and 'the cruellest people in the history of the world'.. pffhahaha.
Once Stephen said assuming profiles facing left is probably to do with most people being right-handed, I immediately thought that's the direction their head would turn if a right-handed person slapped them. So perhaps people are just envisioning themselves letting those faces know what they really think about them.
Both Denis and Geneviève are seen as the patron saints of Paris, although Denis is also the patron saint for France which may give rise to some confusion. Hope this reaches you before you send a letter of outrage to the elves...
@luciferlocke actually, he started talking about planets being spheres and therefore always having cyclones, so he may have meant topograhpical, topology doesn't have all that much to to with so simple a form as a sphere.
@wewoor The theorem he's referring to is the Poincare-Hopf index theorem, which has a great deal to do with spheres. Since an even-dimensional sphere (such as the 2-dimensional surface of a billiard ball) has nonzero Euler characteristic, any vector field on such a sphere must be zero at some point. More broadly speaking, algebraic topologists had to invent the machinery of spectral sequences just to answer some very basic questions about spheres, and still don't have all the answers, by far.

... I thought she faced the left, too... How odd... I'm not even sure what the stamps look like in Canada, but coins DO face the right... =/

I myself prefer to draw profiles facing to the left. It's much easier for me being a righty.

I don't understand why everybody laughs when Gyles says gloriole. Can someone please explain?

@snakesruleLMR A glory hole is a hole in a wall where a man inserts his penis to be fellated anonymously by a woman or a man.

@wordsmithinus Sorry, no. I think it might be a Rich Hall episode, and since the surgery occurred in 2008, it had to be D series or later.
