There is no 'right' cadence and a higher cadence isn't necessarily better. I refer you to "Bicycling Science" Ed.3 Page 85 onward and figure 2.16 which shows a decrease from maximum power for cadences of more than 90 rpm. Lower cadence is more oxygen efficient and preferred by older riders like myself who are limited by oxygen. High cadence is recommended for competitive cyclists in stage races because it aids recovery by reducing muscle loading but as far as I know that's the only advantage.
