I love this kind of tea. The technique is really unique. Just a question though... what is considered 'under-age' labour in India? 14 is not that young. You can get a part-time job in the UK at that age. Under-10's working in India is more of a concern I would have thought... and there are plenty of those unfortunately.
It is directly due to the British that tea is drunk at all in India, they promoted it, encouraged employers to provide it and gave incentives to allow Chaiwallahs to operate on the railway system. I have just come back from a wonderful escorted tour of India and fell in love with Masala tea by the way.
thanks for the info. Do you remember where it is in chennai (looks mount road near shanti theatre), I am going in december. May be I can test his tea there. MM
hi, it's way out beyond that, mm! you'll have to go down on mount road, hit gst road and right after the bus terminus in chromepet it's the first tea-shop on the left. it's one of those 24 hour shops so you won't miss it if you drive down early in the morning.
super. Plastic not everywhere in chennai. But glass are smaller now in some places, for the same price. for clay cups go to north, varanasi (kasi, banaras).
thanks! there's something about piping hot tea in clay cups in the middle of a winter's night! the last time i had one was at the railway station at haridwar. and yes, it is the black eyed peas. :)
true storie, brillient chai, dirty cloth, proud owner, plastic cups? I hav not been in india for so long they changed to plastic? anyway, I was ready for a chai!
I am still back when they had a lot of the clay ones, never saw plastic before, but next time, will ask for it...Thanks; Great video love the music, and really dying for a chai, I already made one today, that is the imadiate effect of this clip

this is the elephunk theme by the Black Eyed Peas. It samples music from a famous tamil song by Ilayaraja.

Most shops have plastic cups for those who ask for it. Mostly for reasons of hygeine. But the classic teakadai glass still rules Chennai.
