I must say I plain disagree with the statement by O. Wilde at the end that "When the Gods wish to punish you, they would answer your prayers". What people define as "the Gods" are really same as us, but looking from a different plane of existence. And when they "answer the prayers" they are helping us along our path of return to the Tao. No punishment there at all...punishment comes from a fear-based human perspective.

You are taking things too literaly, Wilde was using his artistic freedom to show the futility of asking too much of God. Ask for a Mercedes Benz alas Jennis Joplin :) We are where we should be at all times according to our karma. Simply asking god to expedite karmic order is plain silly. Wilde knew what he was saying. "Gods" (ascended masters, spirit guides, higher plane teachers, deceased friends, etc) can only offer guidance. They don't interfere with free will. The only ones with the ability to move physical things are the ones who are incarnate (currently in a physical body). I know this much, numbers are everything...numbers can be used to give expression or describe the characteristics of everything under the Sun. Pythagoras was a high initiate of the Mysteries and it shows in his understanding of importance of numbers as units of the universal language.

You are right, the quote about Sidon is from a reference of Geoffrey Higgins who said "Sidon", apparently in error. The point is the paralell between Jesus and Pythagoras and even Apollonius of Tyana.
