Thanks Joshua , this brings back old memories of the Colombo Gang show, which we had in early seventies. we do not have any Gang shows in sri Lanka anymore. But I do still sing some of Ralph Reader's gang songs with my Scouts occasionally.
This recording whilst more professional was recorded by Ralph Reader and members of the London Gang Show. Not certain of year as it was recorded more than once. See my upload for the 1937 version from the film.
@davegb99 This is from a 1957 LP if that's any help. It would be nice to think that they really were a Scout troop on the disc, if they were, then they really could do pro showbiz stuff.
@Joshua12345 Are you sure of the year of the LP. If so I would be interested to know label and number. It does appear on the 1960 LP Hits from the GS 680 932TLS, 1963 LP GS 1932-1962 Ace of Spades ACL1143, & 1967 LP Memories of the GS Music for Pleasure MFP1180, as well as a few 7" singles & 78s from the 1930s onwards.
All of these were recorded by Ralph Reader & The London Gang Show. It was not a Troop show but a County show with Scouts from the whole of London.
@Joshua12345 It's actually from "Hits from The Gang Shows", an album recorded around either 1960 or 1961 under the Fontana label. The album did indeed feature Ralph Reader and members of the London Gang Show.
To the increasing number of people who are asking for this in either film or audio format, I am very very sorry but I cannot currently oblige. I am having severe problems with software. However, please check back in a week or so. At the very least I will have the entire gangshow ( LP / audio only ) posted on Google Video, at the last check they have better options for saving copies. I will also tag on the 1929 Jamboree film from Arrowepark, Wirral.
Hi Joshua I'm trying to get hold of the recording details for this tune (I want to get permission to use it in a film) Do you have any idea what they are - or any information about where you got the recording? When you say you that have the film still, do you mean you have a copy of the film or a copy of the still photo. Thanks for your help All the best jes
Do it. Gang shows are great fun. And the friends you make last a lifetime. I joined Souwest (South West London) in their very first year and I loved it. One of the proudest moments in my life was when we were awarded the Red Scarf. Putting it on for the first time... Amazing!!!
Go for it, and enjoy it. It's the best feeling in the world!
