This show was based on the classic book "Journey to the West". The monkey king was born out of a rock that had been dormant for ages in Flower Fruit Mountain. The Monkey King can change into 72 different appearances and fly.

In the original story, the monkeys leap into the waterfall. I guess "flying" is the best the 80s special effects can do to imitate monkeys leaping :P
