Last week i was in Dingle but because of the hard wheater i can't go Slea Head (and i was afraid by the description of the narrow road). But next i go there...
was down in dingle the august weekend 1985 and made the trip out to sleahaed and up to the ryans daughter school site and looking at this video it appears to be in the same state of disrepair as it was 24yrs ago.also went down to the area where they filimed the storm scene where they collected the rifles this area actually has a plaque mentioning tha this is where the storm scene was filimed
Stop by the cafe at Slea Head and they will tell you how to get out there. Like the guy said, if you do visit, please don't take any bits of the place home wit ya.
What a strange experience it is for fans of Ryan's Daughter to watch this excellent video clip. I have visited this place several times but it is far more impressive to see it on a video such as this where it comes across as a place full of images of times past, children reciting peotry, rushing into the yard to play, and the ghosts of Mitchum, Trevor Howard, John Mills and Leo McKern hiding somewhere in the mists, SPOOOOOOKY!
There has been talk of preserving it, but nothing has come of it so far. Cost probably has a lot to do with it. To be honest I personally prefer it the way it is. There are no signs, no souvenir junk and not too many visitors. You have to put a little effort into finding these locations, they are not visible from the main road.
I understand exactly what you mean, it keeps it kind of mysterious and I imagine you can lose yourself in thoughts up there, especially if you're a fan of the movie.
The scenery from the movie are what made it so stunning, especially the beach scenes.

Good clip. Just saw the film today. Pity the locals could not look after the old school a bit better. It looks like it is about to fall down!

The old cobbled street and this old schoolhouse could almost be the remains of an actual village.

I don't know who owns the land. But I know, that the village was built near the village 'Dunquin' at the west side of 'Dingle Peninsula'.
