You can continue your romance with whoever you had in the previous games, these are just romance options that you can 'start' in ME3. If you did not romance garrus or tali in ME2, you can't romance them in ME3. But if you did romance them in ME2, the romance continues in ME3.

Also as for the debate on whether ME should have romances at all, I think it should because its only a small part of the game, and isnt the main focus. Plus you dont have to romance anyone if you dont want, its just something thrown in. I personally like the romances, but from the 1st one. The 2nd one got a bit more...cheesy and whorish.

Okay, I was reading something earlier today, about people debating over weather romance really is needed, and here is all I have to say about it. Mass Effect on its own is an absolutely fantastic game, however adding the aspect of romance creates somewhat of an... attachment to some characters. For example, Ashley was my one and only romance in the game, and I can say I worked my ass off to finally get her in ME1, and it was worth it, honestly that was my main motivation in ME2.

Miranda will just not be in the game as much as she was in ME2, but she has a mission and some scenes with shep. And the dialogue is different if you had a relationship, plus an extra scene is there for you if you romanced her. This is just what I have heard, I don't think they would leave ME2 romances hanging.

I'm new to the ME world, could someone please explain what will happen with me when I play? I never played the first two games, so I don't have saves. What will happen with decisions that effect the universe, like letting the council die, or romances?
@gboy556 Every decision you make has an impact on the next game, in one form or another to varying degree. For example, in the first game you have the choice of saving an alien race called the Rachni. Whether you kill them or let them live it will have consequences in ME2 and maybe even in ME3. Most choices are far reaching and that's what's so special about this series. Saving the council, pursuing romances, etc. it all has a consequence. You should play ME1 and 2 before the last one comes out.
@ravenhearst2k11 As far as I know, most if not all of the characters from the first two games will either make an appearance in a supporting role or be a squad member on your team again. The ones I know for sure that will be on your team again will be Tali, Ashley/Kaiden (depending on who you saved in the original ME) and Garrus.
@Trancemaster2052 Squad members are basicly just who lived through the first game, plus the new guy Vega. The party members from ME2 play supporting roles, such as Mordin's in the demo

If the game isn't retooled like it was from 1 to 2, then it stands that story and options should be heavier. The multiplayer is a blast but its not the reason we buy Mass Effect. ME3 isn't CoD or BF3. Looking forward to the game none the less.

@DoctorSadPanda There will be an ending for your Miranda Romance, trust me I had the same worries. Miranda will just not be in the game as much as she was in ME2, but she has a mission and some scenes with shep. And the dialogue is different if you had a relationship, plus an extra scene is there for you if you romanced her. This is just what I have heard, I don't think they would leave ME2 romances hanging.

@gboy556 Every decision you make has an impact on the next game, in one form or another to varying degree. For example, in the first game you have the choice of saving an alien race called the Rachni. Whether you kill them or let them live it will have consequences in ME2 and maybe even in ME3. Most choices are far reaching and that's what's so special about this series. Saving the council, pursuing romances, etc. it all has a consequence. You should play ME1 and 2 before the last one comes out.

@ravenhearst2k11 As far as I know, most if not all of the characters from the first two games will either make an appearance in a supporting role or be a squad member on your team again. The ones I know for sure that will be on your team again will be Tali, Ashley/Kaiden (depending on who you saved in the original ME) and Garrus.

So what happens to our love interest in Me2? My main shep left Liara for Jack and her paragon romance was really something. Do we just get cameo's? After skyrim and witcher 2 I figured I could look forward to a massive game in the ME universe. If the game isn't retooled like it was from 1 to 2, then it stands that story and options should be heavier. The multiplayer is a blast but its not the reason we buy Mass Effect. ME3 isn't CoD or BF3. Looking forward to the game none the less.
