This is a classic. I had always wondered what happened to Joe. God he was hot in those films. Not too hot an actor though. Still go see "Trash" with Holly and Joe. It is good. By the way at the time there were very few surgical sex changes world wide. You had to go to Denmark to even get the operation. In the 60's I only knew one person who had. Christine Jorgenson was perhaps the best known. She was the first. in 1952.
This is taken from a UK BBC documentary series "Arena". They did a series of 3 or 4 films about the stories behind famous songs. This was the last in the series & was a bit longer than the previous ones (45 mins I think). I think it was from the early '90s
@BrianHamiltonTV Well, that just means she's a pre-op transsexual. However, you make a good point, afterall, Holly once said "When I'm wearing men's clothing, call me a "he", when I'm wearing women's clothing cll me a cab." lol, I love that quote. What a lady she is now.
Thanx DS !!! I met Holly at a party at her house in W. Hollywood about 10 years ago...she was one of the kindest and most emotionally generous people you could ever meet !! I'm glad she survived those times and we are very lucky to still have her. Look for her tribute poem about the late Eric Emerson somewhere online. He was another Sstar and legendary walking work of art of that period.
And Jayne used to DJ around Manhattan in the early 90's (she'd been doing it off and on since the 70's). She had the greatest collection of pre, proto, prime and post punk music and really introduced alot of that to the new, younger kids on the LES.
...And I remember Jackie Curtis's death very well !!! I was just a teenager but everybody downtown was talking about it. I really didn't know how important she was until years later.
I used to play video games and pinball at the arcade that was on the former site of Max's(M's closed in 1980). Then it became a Korean deli and now I think its some sort of chi-chi Park Ave. S. yuppie boutique restaurant. May those rich professionals be haunted by all the Max's ghosts and run screaming out of there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps in some lights, but Jackie Curtis was pretty beastly.

Holly's a transsexual, not a transvestite.

Below the waist, Holly has male anatomy. Holly is not transsexual at all -- rather transgender.
