Great video of a great knife! Well worn/used blade, yet the the SRK's tip is still keen and intact...NICE. To the novices, you'd do yourself a flavor by getting this fixed blade ( especially in Carbon V) for utility, tactical, and/or self-defense applications. To the naysayers: The SRK does indeed have a full, flat yet narrow tang--but not rat tail. The reason for the inch long spaced ricasso between the edge and guard allows the hand to choke up on the blade for finer cutting and better control
I wouldn't call it a rat tail tang, I think of skinnier tangs like the Kabars when I hear that. I'd classify it as more of a "hidden tang" design, it's pretty substantial under the handle.
i had my srk for a while now and i really love it! i bin using it ¨pretty¨ hard, not to hard tho. i got no problem with it, the knife is stuck in the handle and its stuck in the sheath even with out that strap. maybe i got some upgreaded sheath, not sure but however i really like it!
I dont buy this knife because a survival knife must have a full tang with a skrewed handle. everything else is cheap production and not study for prying or hard batoning.
@tallswede80 That is a better stainless yeah, but still no comparison to the Cro Van carbon in ease of sharpening and edge holding. That's my opinion. Ever see a stainless steel axe? There's a reason why..
Yeah, I know cro van is the best even though it rusts in 3 minutes flat. I always prefer cro van over any stainless, but apparently some union at the factory where they made them decided to be a bunch of assholes and get their jobs transferred to taiwan. Anyway, they make some pretty good knives with the mar tempered sk5, although they haven't made the SRK. I'm hoping they will.
No problems with my SRK, I have one of the first Carbon V's, discontinued, but the best. Bought it of some Veteran at a Gun and Knife show for $60.00.
Nice video man. I'm still thinking what i should buy... The becker BK2 2nd gen or CS SRK. hmmmm difficult n hard to choose :-p. I love both knives. Both are great. O yeah i was thinking if the handle of the SRK come loose i would not mind and try to take it all off n put some nice micarta handles :-).
i had mine for a wile now but my really stick in the sheath. even without the strap it wont come of really how hard u even pull. i dont now if i was really lucky and got a sheath wich they by mistae made a little bit more tight or if they maybe has proven it cuz they did get some compains about that sheath.
@Angelking762x39 The finish was holding up great, it's a tough paint :D It now has a mirror finish :) But i'm not liking that finish for a knife that it's used quite often, it gets scratched and marked very easy. I'm going to give it a nice satin finish
Great vid man. Good job pointing out not only the strengths, but the weaknesses as well. I think it's impossible to find a knife that is the best at everything. Each one has its pros and cons. Good stuff!!
I have the same knife, and have mixed feelings about it. I use it alot, and it has never broken, although the Kraton handle is now loose on the steel and wiggles slightly, like yours. The only downfall I found is that the knife feels sort of awkward to carve with because it has such a thick blade. Have you reprofiled the edge of your knife?
@12robinredbreast I haven't reprofiled the edge...your right about the carving, it doesn't do the best with that. That is why I put a BK-11 on the sheath.
hey man how does the kraton handle hold up!????

I just got the Leatherneck, wish I'd gotten that.

Hi, nice vid so far,
but a survival knife with a wiggle handle :-)
I dont buy this knife because a survival knife must have a full tang with a skrewed handle. everything else is cheap production and not study for prying or hard batoning.
But I like the contour of the SRK very much.
