Well, obviously Sally Ride hasn't done her homework, and going to space didn't help much in her knowledge of it. But perhaps she's talking about Jupiter? Who knows? Great biased way to promote Google Sky though....

This is so fantastic! Will be an amazing educational tool for astronomy classes. I couldn't remember being able to see stars that clearly now because severe pollution makes visibility poor, even at short distances. Now with this facility, people can explore the Sky again (right from their computer screen). Thanks Google!!

Sally was deep in training for a third space mission when Challenger exploded, and she ended up serving on the Presidential Comission investigating the accident (and did so again for Columbia in 2003). The woman you're thinking of is probably Christa McAuliffe or else Judith Resnik.
