  • It would be more realistic if he'd put the shiny keys in his pocket.

  • CANNON PENIS

  • so they must be like F1 pit crew..finish the job as fast as you can

  • i was missing you 240p

  • i just love the sound of cannons !

  • Very Nice -what a gun! We have this one in a small version

  • lol, you gotta love the Texan response to a cannon being fired!

  • Was this at Liendo Plantation in Hempstead, Texas? Because it really looks like it.

  • gribeauval ?

  • Why everytime i look for napoleonic cannons i get these redneck monkeys telling me about civil war and crap, which i'm not interested at all. All i wanna see and hear it's the real cannons used in the Napoleonic Wars.

  • @GSpeedEmotion well, if it's any consolation, 12-pounders of this same design (although with less sophisticated carriages) were in use from the mid-eighteenth century; this gun's ancestors saw service in the Seven Years' War, the American War of Independence, the Napoleonic Wars, the Anglo-Burmese Wars, the Crimean War, the US Civil War and even World War I (some Russian artillery units).

  • @GSpeedEmotion then go to France...and stay there...

  • @SittingMooseShaman I'd love to, but don't worry i don't live in the States, i thank God for that.

  • @GSpeedEmotion ...regardless...we all have our dislikes...the cannon in question was called a, "Napoleon" in an American slang term of the era... ...Thus, your results...

  • I have always thought about it.. What would happen if u showed up @ Napoleon's army with .. lets say... A tank... A modern Tank.. They will shoot their 12 pounders... Just scratching off the tank... After that the tank will shoot a single shot... Will the flee? Yes I know... Terrible Fantasy lal xD

  • 11 peapule got shot by theese cannons >:)

  • the size of my D oops sry

  • very cool....!

  • farbs. learn proper drill.

  • farbs.

  • Hey how fast could a trained crew reload a cannon in the early 1800's?

  • @JVC7400 about a round a minute

  • @24thvolunteer thanks for the reply :)

  • @JVC7400 3-4 rounds a minute.

  • @JVC7400 I dont know about the army, but 3 shots in 5 minutes was a fast rate for navy gunners back then, to the best of my knowledge

  • @JVC7400 I'm not sure about the early 1800s but by the civil war, the normal speed for reloading a cannon was 7-9 minutes.

  • @JVC7400

Well, during the American Revolution, a good crew could load a cannon in 35-45 seconds.

  • @JVC7400 The firing rate for the napoleonic artillery was:

    - 1 shot / minute for 12pdrs

    - 2 shots / minute for 4 pdrs

Muller of King's German Legion (KGL) believed that artillery

when being charged by cavalry could increase ratio of fire

from 2 to 8 rounds per minute.

For shorter periods of time the gunners could operate faster, for longer periods the rate decreased.

    - in 1813 at Lutzen, the French artillery fired for 9 hours 1 shot in every 3 minutes (12,750 rounds).

  • AGE OF EMPIRES 3

  • I WANT ONE

  • WHAT ARE CANNON BALLS MADE OF?

  • Comment removed

  • @ChrisCarney123

Depends on the shot. Some were iron, some were lead, I've even heard of them melting down brass to make shot, when other material was in short supply. Most cannon can be used as a large bore shotgun too. Nails, glass, rocks. What would you like to shoot?

  • I just watched this because of the boom ...:)

  • My great grandpa was a sargent in a heavy artillery outfit in Hood's Texas Birgade in the civil war. What kind of cannon they had I don't know.

  • seriously dude, we just want to see the cannon go off. plz stop talking

  • its l.a.r.p.ing for old people

  • too bad they aren't still killing yankees

  • Please blow something up. Like a police car. That would generate some positive comments.

  • redneks -.-'

  • Why is it that people always thing this cannon is named after Napoleon Bonaparte the 1st?

It is actually named after Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte (Napoleon the 3rd), who really is not related by blood to Napoleon Bonaparte the 1st (they are related by marriage.

  • @SavageJim01 Actually he is related by blood. Louis Napoleon or Napoleon III is the son of Hortense de Beauharnais, Napoleon's first wife's daughter, and Louis Bonaparte, the Emperor's Brother. So there is a blood relation.

  • wow,i can't see anything after the "BOOM"

  • Lmao 1857 eh?

  • GREAT !!

  • But.... will it blend? lol jk Could you fire a tennis ball(at all)

  • nothing like the smell of gun powder in the morning

  • how would you like a 12 lbs ball landing on you going a couple hundred miles per hour

  • i think these can shoot cannonballs right? where can i buy one?

  • very nice

  • Nice sound.

    Cheers from France

  • The war wasn't fought over slavery, specifically. That was just one small part of the issue of State's Rights. Perhaps it is you that need to study your history.

  • @HeedleGlavin GETTYSBURG… OTHER TIMES – new book.

It is a great read about the famous battle and very different. You can get your copy from my YouTube site (GETTYSBURGbook) or search Amazon or eBay.

    Cheers. To all.

  • The Napoleon, smoothbore cannon, down here in Kennesaw Mountain they have a few, I guess replicas, placed here and there, they look menacing, and they sound menacing.

  • At the begining it was a war about secession.

  • @timmythefishingguy and what´s different today?

  • Study history, eh? I hope you're aware Napoleon I died in 1821 and he used the Gribeauval system. :P

    Just kidding.

  • is this mike manning's "revelation"???

  • Well,

I just received my 12 pound Scale Cannon

14.5 inch Barrel, 27" overall length, 15 lbs.

Fires a 0.69 Caliber round ball.

Not as big a Pop as yours but I can carry mine under my arm.

What is the powder load size for a 200 yard shot?

  • Waw i just cannot believe that during napoleonic wars and 19th century the infantry ran in front of this during a charge

  • oh thank you!!

  • Cool! Every Patriot,Should Have One!

    GET"R"DONE & HAVING FUN!

    Deo Vindice!

  • yes you are correct. i dont know why you got -5 for telling the truth?

  • You guys bash this guys score for saying the truth. PFFT

  • us 'yankees' fought because your ancestors wanted slaves and we belive no mateer what race anyone should live free and strong

  • Doesn't look like everyone in Texas shares the same opinion as you do.

Got buds from over there and they meet these sort of guys.

  • actually this is partly true, as the civil war was not started solely because of slavery, but you saying that the 13th amendment freed the slaves after lincoln died is retarded. go read a history book, by a team of researchers.

  • thanks to remember who help young America and who was the ennemy...

France & USA: 2 countries, same goal, Liberty and Democracy

  • The Queen of England is a German, a Jew formulated nuclear power, ME109 once had British engines, Canadians burned the White House, Lenin was sent back to Russia in a German train ......; welcome to the world of "I shot my own foot."

  • Apparently it was mostly the British that burned Washington.

  • we have 2 similar versions of this gun at Fort Henry (Kingston, ON) as well as a shorter howitzer in the same design and mounting. We don't use them for demonstration firing anymore, but we do demonstrate two 6-pounder armstrong guns, which are breech loading, and a third 12-pound armstrong that is on display.

  • Thank god for reenactors. Gives you a chance to see those beauties in action

  • amen bro i have had the chance to work with seldons battery what a bunch of great guys

SURGEON GENERAL WARNING: Cigar Smoking And Cannonfire Can Cause Cancer :)

  • Dang!! That is power.

  • Dude, I'm just trying to help you out. You're not going to be taken seriously spelling like that.

  • thats cuz this is not a serious thing, i mean seriously, its youtube, if it were serious i wouldnt spell like that, im just sayin that theres really no point in being serious on here

  • Uhm. You said retarded frenchman. Just saying, it might make a little more of an impact if u dont spel like dis.

  • OLAY!

  • 1600 yards is about 1.5km right?

  • nice video and greats informations

i dont know that you used a french canon during your civil war ^^

  • The mini balls we shot were also french. For being famed for love, france has killed more americans with these things then most of our other wars combined. People complain about the 3000 or so deaths we have in iraq. that is stupid. In the civil war 3000 people died in a single battle.

  • yea there were 624,000 deaths in the civil war compared to 4,000 in iraq, that should put something into perspective

  • great vid we had loads of cannon at waterloo firing at us my unit uses a 6pdr&rockets in the uk

    kev 95th rifles&rha

  • I was more concerned about the risk of barrel explosions rather then the risk of getting hit by the projectile. :)

  • 1, 2, 3!! Congratulations, a magnificent outfit.

  • Do they ever fire live rounds? Or is it too dangerous for the crew?

  • no, they are blanks..... kinda lame! I mean hell, I could use that powder that they waste for my real cannon that shoots real D-batteries or whatever I put down the barrel, LOL

  • do the cannons in re-enactments shoot real cannonballs?

  • No they only fire a powder charge. Essentially a "blank." See our video called Civil War Reenactment (making cannon rounds)

  • @TexasTides Isn't dry firing bad for the barrel?

  • Look at the video of them firing and notice how the guns barely recoil at all. If they were firing actual ordnance the guns would recoil backward several feet -- "equal and opposite reaction" and all that good stuff.

  • @BrianGriffin66 that is a stupid queston

  • @BrianGriffin66 that would be pretty sutpid XD People would die for real then!

  • And they recreate history so they can shoot a real big gun!

  • They are only firing the powder charge with no actual round.

  • Nice! SCV member Jacksonville Florida camp 1209

  • Yeah 'til you hit by it!!

  • get hit by it??? They are blanks, might give U a headache or make U deaf, but besides that they are harmless! (how do I kno, well the cannons barely move from recoil, well a 12 pound projectile would move that cannon ALOT!)

  • Great video. Very sad, these mighty cannons didn't help Emperor to overcome Wellington.

  • Napoleon Bonaparte lived from 1769 to 1821 and the battle of waterloo happened in 1815. So, the video actually means NAPOLEON THE THIRD, Napoleon Bonaparte's nephew. (1857 12 pound cannon)

  • Most of Napoleons Cannon at Waterloo were actually 24 pounders. The largest ever seen at that time.

  • The "Napoleons" they refer to were a 12 pounder common on both sides during the American Civil War, not the cannons used by French Dude.

  • Napoleon infact used few 12 pounder guns at Waterloo. He called them his "most beautiful daughters".

  • too bad he freakin lost at waterloo huh?

  • And your point is?

  • Uh, you open the powder bag that is rammed into the tube with what is actually a prick as per the manual, them you insert the friction primer that sets off the powder when pulled. It is being done as he states, correctly. The piece is secured, it is an educational video, person and gun has been at many national reenactments. Last at 145th Shiloh.

  • Very informative video. Thanks for posting.

  • Model 1857 Light 12 Pound Gun Howitzer. lalalallalala he probally dosnt wanan do that hes doing it for money sheesh u nooblets

  • Not for money, for educational purposes only

  • this guy doesn't even say the name of the gun correctly. It is a Model 1857 Light 12 Pound Gun Howitzer. and it is nicknamed the napoleon because Napoleon III scaled down his field artillery by about 500 pounds. and the fella who opens the powder bag with what Capt. Farb calls a "prick" is actually using what is called a priming wire. it would be REALLY great if these guys would read the manuals and do it the way its supposed to be done.

  • The guy is a Farb.....So what if he leans in front of the cannon, one less non-authentic SCVite on the reenacting field. Oh, but save those keys, might be to the beer stash!

  • Really good educational video, but someone needs to educate the narrator NOT to bend or stand in front of the barrel (regardless of whether the gun is cold or not). Most events will throw a reenactor off the field for being unsafe like that. Otherwise, again, a great video.

  • were was this video taken at?

  • This video was shot in Hempstead, Texas at a place called Liendo Plantation. The reenactment takes place every year the weekend before Thanksgiving.

    Ron

  • COOL

  • Great video!
