What model number is it; how many USB ports does it have and is it a slim? Older consoles with 4 USB slots can't perform this test, and on slims instead of turning the backswitch on and off, plug out the power cable and in again.

That is the older 80 GB version. As far as I'm concerned, you cannot perform this Fan test on that PS3.

do you guys have uncharted 2? because when i play it for more than 15 min my funs start in max speed and this goes for hours, and i played that game for days and days.. and every time i played more than e certain time it just sounds like my pc lol

and by the way till now never harm my ps3 having the fun working on max speed for a long time, and i did a fun test by mistake lol i was just taking the cd out and that hapenend lol

@Ricardo95Santos - yeah you might need to buy compressed air then remove the dust from the inside, which means you need to open it. And you might need to put new thermal paste on it. BUT you could send it off to be cleaned if you want.

My PS3 is constantly turning off on its own.I can go on the internet and stuff but when I play GT5, it turns off exactly when its loading the game.Also when Im playing MW2 ONLINE, it turns off.If anybody has a solution or something that can help, please comment.:)

That doesnt only test the fans, but it tests the CPU to, so when you do that, your CPU goes to 100% usage. :)

ok if sony thought this was a problem they needed to fix when they made the slim they would have fix it but they didn't because its not a problem. fat ps3 do it 1 a month and slim do it 1 evey 2 or 3 months.

Does your PS3 have enough space around it (at least 10cm on all sides)? Do you clean it from time to time, and do you keep it turned on for long? What model do you have? I think you should send it for cleaning (inside components, especially if you still have warranty) and for replacement of the thermal paste on CPU and GPU.

This, although rare, can damage the system but it is necessary esp if you aren't going to open up your ps3 and clean it manually. I wouldn't do it more than 2-3 times in a year if that.

Ps3's break too easy, I'm on my 3rd one. I keep them well ventillated and still they break. My 3rd one is freezing randomly when signed in to the psn network, or when playing a game that takes any sort of processing power. Playing psn classics or Worms2/hustle kings ect. ect. it's fine. Ps3 froze like 50 times yesterday, i cleared all files, restored it, rebuilt hard drive. Nothing works, so I'll try this. I'm a big Sony fan but seriously, FUCK THEM

This isn't a fan test nor is it a self cleaning funtion. It's a feature that forces your internal components to work so you can retrieve discs when your console stops working.

@Necromora no, this WON'T do ANYTHING against the overheating of your console. The function was implied so that the sony technicans can check if the fan of a ps3 is still working. (disc ejection is just a byproduct).

This function can even DAMAGE ur console, if it is hot already (as the fan will rotate on max.) So if u think you have to do this test make sure ur console is not warm. Take a vacuum cleaner and clean the little ventilation slots if your console overheats, only this will help !!!

Don't do it. I did it and my screen turned green and wouldn't work for a couple of minutes. Then I picked up my ps3 and it was hotter then hell. I Had to cool it down, thank god it's working now.

Ok I strongly suggest that you don't do this, I did it and mine broke and i couldn't get it to turn back on, idk what it did to mine but my COD4 disk got stuck inside too because it wouldn't switch on at all (no lie) just got my new ps3 if anybody wants to add me then feel free but I've not got many games coz i tend to buy,play,sell for the next best game
