  • it's transposed down for fucksake

  • I think this whole show is an epic fail... I mean seriously. Why not make a show about school children trying to perform heart surgery or something like that. Why not leave this to the professionals, because this is such a disservice to the artform

  • Thumbs up if you only ended up here because of Harry Hill's TV Burp

  • I think Marcella should have at least gone on to the finals. The only reason why Darius went on to the finals was because he was a man, and they needed one to keep more of the demographic watching. It's a popularity contest. He got the female, the European and the gay votes.

  • ROFLCOPTER!! When she started I loved it. She has such a good voice. But I was giggling and laughing so much for her high notes. Her expressions said to me, "oh sh*t, here it comes..." "Ah, got it. And another one...ah, there we go." "Most of them in there, now with the rest of the aria..."

I know this is a difficult aria for any soprano (yes, I've tried some of it, bet not had the chance to try all of it :( ) so, she did very well. but I did find that so funny. She got most of the notes.

  • My favourite opera aria, and I do love this version. A little more self confidence, perhaps, so that she'd appear even more "pissed off", but ... I love it anyway!

  • @378753 I agree! This is either my favourite, or one of them and to have got that in her third week is impressive. She could have shown more character and been more confidendant for the high notes but I know she was probably rather nervous.

  • Challenge any of the haters to try it then comment who aren't trained opera singers

  • CAN YOU HEAR THOSE HIGH NOTES?!

  • Im sutdying vocal technique in a national music school in my country (Mexico), and I can assure that the voice of this woman is amazing, she is a soprano and for only doing this for a few weeks, she rocks!! truly, she is outstanding, doping that , that air control, that high notes almost in place in so little time is a great achievment, amazing i think

  • She blinks a lot.

  • I think that's great, can't believe she sang those so well when she is a pop singers

  • what is the background music?

  • Hm, I don't know... She is surely brave to do such a thing, but on the other hand what's the point of trying to do something for which you are totally unqualified? If the show was "Housewife to Air Pilot" instead of "Pop Star to Opera Star" she would be dead now.

  • @edin201x I completely agree with you. I imagine that the producers thought they can do do a considerable amount of money with this, and surely they think it`s funny

  • @edin201x it's called entertainment you moron

  • @edin201x Would the show get ratings from PROFESSIONAL opera singers SINGING OPERA ?! naaaaa .. its wackk attackss learning to sing in opera style .. use ur brain ..

  • Gosh this looks so hard to sing! She did so well :)

  • OH AWESOME! this clip has tow of the best fictional characters ever in it! The Queen of the Night, and Elphaba!!!

  • high notes=great

    low=meh

  • Absolutely no doubt whatsoever this lass should have won the show hands down. Unfortunately, talent isn't always recognised on these programmes, instead, people vote for their favourite personality. A complete waste of a vote which defeats the whole object of the programme. For those armchair critics out there, the true test is this: If you went to a local amateur opera and heard this, would you be so very disappointed at the end of the evening? I think not in all honesty.

  • Those notes she reads are awesome, I thougth she was just great. It's a pity we have to put up with all the nasty comments, totally uncalled for.

  • oh come on this is a very demanding aria a week is certainly not enough!

give her a break I think she did fine, for some one who is not a professional opera singer had to learned it on a week and is on a tv contest

  • All of you haters are just that HATERS ! .....What are you Jealous ? The only talent you have is making yourselfs look stupid with your pinhead criticism of someone that clearly had the guts to step outside of a comfort Zone and try something Fun ! I have known Marcella over 40 years and have watched her go from being the girl over in the corner playing her guitar and harp , singing like a bird. To what she is now A very gifted singer and song writer, The stupid remarks are uncalled for ....

  • YES YES YES

  • Very very well done for an amateur soprano!

  • she really improved a lot compared to her first week!! her high notes are wow!!

  • the judges on this were so pointless!

  • wow do they hate marcella or something? first they want her to be a dramatic, then a spinto and now a coloratura? those are totally different fach and i doubt there are many sopranos out there who can sing all 3 of those aria well.

  • @taltos2 Dude, help me out here, because I'm an untrained operatic singer - what do those terms mean?

  • @jemmabond "untrained operatic singer"- possibly the most contradictory statement I've ever heard

  • @taltos2 Not well anyways xD And this coloratura aria is one of the hardest coloratura pieces. Its KILLER. I think more then a few dramatics could pull a spinto piece though...(Says the lyric soprano>.> Shame on me)

  • they dropped it down didnt they for her? but yeah she is good.

  • 1:30 Mr Bean/Sideshow Bob

  • DER HOLLE RACHE IN KOCHT IN MEINEM HERZTEN!!! so.... SHES PISSED OFF!

  • her german diction is awful

  • @Radetzky19 for a start she aint german and she did not pick the song, concidering all of this she did well

  • @retardedjoe12 I never said she didnt do well for her level. Second, whether she speaks germanor not is completely irrelevent; singers are taught diction whether they know the language or not (german, french, italian).

  • @Radetzky19 Yeah, classically trained singers are. She's not though. Considering she only had a week to master an incredibly difficult coloratura song with little to no previous classical training, I'd say that criticizing her diction is pointless.

It's called Pop Star to Opera Star for a reason.

  • tv higligh of th wekk

  • It's okay to like Marcy for having the guts to try and doing perfectly well with the changes to accommodate her voice. Unfortunately I saw Diana Damrau's performance first. I can't be fair to her because Diana Damrau is The Queen Of The Night for me. That's what's happening with the opera purists. They heard/saw better performances first and it's so hard to be fair. I'm not even a purist but can't be fair.

  • no no no no!!!! what has the world come to?? they are making a joke of opera!!! u cant bring a pop star and make them sing opera!! you have to be well trained, and know wat youre doing!!! and miced!!!! wat a disgrace!!!!! i wonder if they would dare do this if maria callas a true prima donna was still living!! they wouldnt dare!! if youre gonna sing opera do it right!!!

  • THE VOICE IS PRETTY. NOT BAD AT ALL. THIS A WOMAN WHO HAS A VOICE. THE REST DO NOT HAVE ANY VOICE. NONE.

  • In my opinion, she did really well to sing this at any rate, but the fact that the key has been lowered and the tempo is just too slow means that this isn't really a good performance of Queen of the Night. It's more the producers fault for trying to get an amateur to sing one of the hardest arias ever written.

  • 3:02 Swine Flu!

  • Bravo!

  • Wikipedia tells me that she's fifty years old- my God, she don't bloody look it! She looks shit-hot for her age! Well done, girl! :)

  • She did a crackin' job on this song! I once had a BLOKE mate, (believe it or not), who could've EASILY sung this particular song, in THAT pitch and in THAT key! He could also hit the lowest Bass and ANYTHING in between! :)

  • A lot of prats on here seem to know all about opera (according to themselves) .

All professionals are amatuers first aren't they?

I think Marcella should have won the contest by a mile!

  • @auntieada Oh sure, but the point is more than amateurs don't sing these arias for a reason - because they CAN'T, not successfully, not without injuring themselves. Honestly, I'm GLAD the key is a minor third lower, because she'd kill herself trying to get that F. But the people who know this piece, or much about opera at all, will know what's wrong and will probably laugh. Or be offended. (Sing like an opera star in six weeks! Who needs all those years of training?)

  • @AudreyN haha you are so right! I am a musician myself and although for what it is she did well on a whole I find it not surprising she didn't win because they chose the worst piece for her. You do not touch one of the hardest arias and expect an amateur to do it.

  • Comment removed

  • @AudreyN Are you not missing the point of the program!? (i think she done really well!)

Where can i purchase you're album?

  • Well, I have to say, she has a hell of a voice, and being a higher voiced female she has good command of head voice, so has a good operatic sound. HOWEVER, the whole premise of this series is rediculous!!

  • I love this video !! wish she had won !!

  • LOL YES! YES! YES!

  • Are you fucking kidding me? WHAT.

Well, at least they didn't try and make her sing it in the original key. She does not have a high F, I promise you.

  • do you know what key it is in?

was laughing when I saw this though

  • @sweetaztecangel69 SIt's in b minor instead of d, so the highest note is a D, not an F.

Which explains why I could replicate it so easily, haha. My high D is awesome - high F, not so much.

  • @AudreyN either way for me...my E's work fabulously...my F's do what they want LOL

  • @AudreyN Actually, she does have a high F; she used to hit even higher notes when she was in Shakespare's Sister.

  • Now listen to the same aria performed by Natalie Dessay in order to see and hear how it is performed by an international opera singer. You will be astounded and entranced by the brilliance of her performance.

  • It would be more impressive is she sang it in the original key.

  • Totally agree. That totally turned me off. At 3:30 about or whenever it was when the aria actually started, in 10 seconds I was turned off and closed it; that killed it for me too.

Singing on the extremities of the female range is what this aria is all about. Without that sense of danger and excess there was no point to it. She should not even have bothered, and picked something different.

  • lol, its an opera about swine flu

  • shes pissed off!!!!!

  • love her voice - estupdous chica

  • She should have been in the final without question.

  • @Jamlind1 and Darius shouldn't have won

  • @Jamlind1 She should have won without question.

  • @looker768 Absolutely agree with you!

  • Tho I wanted Danny to win , Marcella should have won, hands down! Her performances blew everyone away!

  • Awesome vocals by Marcella........

    She should easily have won....!!!!

  • i like her Chimpanzie impression.

    3:46

  • Cant quite believe how many people critisize on here!

At the end of the day Marcella hasn't had the years of training needed to sing opera and it sure seems to me that she done a great job!

I wonder how many of the people who sit in front of their pc's typing critisism are experts??? NONE I bet!!

    Go Marcella...you rock!!

  • I know, can't believe people are so harsh! For someone who's not done opera before that was great!!

  • @lezthewelshman I think its more that ppl that you refer to including myself who are musically trained see this as not a good fit for her. This aria is one of the hardest to sing and cannot be sung by an amateur. She even had to change the key. But you are right she did do well, it is more that this song really was not for her esp since she hasnt been trained right for this coloratura piece. She can seriously hurt her voice. She did do well but the vote was not surprising

  • Must correct thecjclones, Marcella was given some opera vocal exercises by a coach when she was with SS but has certainly not had any opera training!

She's done a great job over the last few weeks. Very talented, beautiful performances and a lovely lady!

    Go Marcy! x

  • you didnt know she said swine flu

    2:00

  • Great first try at this piece, but there's three things not quite right here. First, the aria was taken down not one, not two, but 3 keys....the high-note is an F, not a D. Second, she performed less than half of the aria and, i.e., excluded the mid-section(which I believe is harder). And finally...she was mic'd. I get it for speaking to the judges and all that, but c'mon. There's are plenty of reasons not everybody does opera, but that's gotta be in the top three.

  • no, it was tranposed and the tempo was very slow ;)

  • I love Rolando he is awesome :) But this chick can't sing opera stay to pop, b/c that un bel di for terrible!!!

  • Id like to point out 2 things

    1. She does not sing swine flu although it sounds like it she actually sings Verzweiflung meaning distress.

    2. As much as i like Marcella Detroit and she's my favourite she has actually already been opera trained for Shakespeares Sister so this is not technically her third week doing opera!

  • Gosh but can you guys see how much better shes gotten over just 3 weeks! It's amazing! I couldn't even dream of singing Opera that good after just 3 weeks.

  • This isn't official opera her technique is bad but that is only b/c she has done it only for 3 weeks it takes 7 years of vocal study to be a pro :)

  • Yeah I know it takes a long time but all I'm saying is that she sounds pretty good for only singing this way for only 3 weeks. I'm not saying she's perfect but still It's pretty good for only 3 weeks. I don't think I would be able to sound that with only 3 weeks under my belt.

  • Sorry I just 3 weeks a lot in that comment :)

  • she sounds like a high horn at 4:02

  • Marcy Marcy Marcy......absolutely incredible!!!! And what a joy to have your Husband and Son there as well. The Creator has truly blessed you, and by that...all of us as well.

  • sounds like she says swine flue at 3:01

  • 3:01 - Swine Flu?

  • @rowanc88 xD i was watching harry hills tv burp and he said that

  • Yeah, seems all three of us saw Harry Hill, eh Lolager123?

  • @ballyhigh11 lol

  • I'm about to study Opera for 4 years in Manchester, they don't let students sing this until the last year of the course. They're going to damage her voice if they carry on like this!

  • @MasterIsh91 Thank you for the info. I was going to learn this song...and to think I could have damaged my vocal cords!

  • Marcella cannot be held responsible for the fact that the aria was in a lower key. The song was chosen for her; she couldn't say no, could she? Nor can she really be held to task for not singing the aria perfectly. She only had one week in which to learn is. Learning a new song in a week is already a challenge. To learn a new song in another language in a week is an impressive feat. Marcella excelled.

  • Well, everyone this is not the right key. pleace lissten to the original and enjoy.

  • That was brilliant! How does she sing like that?? It was amazing! MARCELLA TO WIN!

  • car'nt belive marcella almost went out of it shes the best one in it ,shes fantastic

  • Sumi jo is a good one to look at she hassung this song for meny years

  • DigiVoka, Thank you for posting this, Marcella is a Godess, when I first saw her singing this she blew me away, Brilliant, I hope she wins

  • absolutely outstanding, tintoid you are a prick

  • Why would they choose to sing this aria, which many of the world's best don't find easy?

Sadly the 4 quick notes (twiddly-bits) before the bell-like high notes are all slurred and not at all distinct.

    She clearly over-reached herself.

  • It's in a lower key than the original...but still a great performance :-) fantastic Marcella!!

  • Bravo Marcella, absolutely sublime. Excellent.

  • marcella to win you are fantastic

  • My cat can sing this. Seriously..

  • I am bursting with pride for Marcy!!

Outstanding. I can't get over her exemplary performance. She outshines ALL the other contestants. If the unthinkable happens that she doesn't win, it will be a travesty.

    MARCELLA TO WIN!!

  • Absolutely awesome. Such a strong voice and looking stunning! Must vote on fri peeps! She is pure class!

  • She's fantastic.

I wasn't interested in the series until I was channel hopping and saw Marcella performing (week 2) and now I'm hooked.

I don't care for the rest of the show, but I'll tune in for Marcella's parts.

I'm not sure how she's going to top Queen of the Night, but I'm sure she will and I look forward to watching.

I'd love to hear her sing Una Voce Poco Fa

  • SAAAANNNG!!! That is easily one of the hardest (if not the hardest) classical arias EVER!!! Brilliant job! 5*

  • What a compliment to be given this song in week three - so so difficult, but Marcella has shown that she is more than capable. I'm glad Marcella is being pushed as it will only enhance her journey and I'm thoroughly enjoying watching her progress. Madame Butterfly was beautiful. Good luck to her and keep voting if you are in the UK!!

PS I am slightly in love with Rolando!! :) :)

  • The most natural performer in my opinion. Excellent. The best

  • marcella and her family have been family friends of mine for practically my entire life and ive heard her sing for so long and to hear her sing like this is absolutely unbelieveable! i wish i could have gone out there to see her with max. Great job Marcy!!

  • breath-taking! You absolutely nailed it. Everything was perfect...the voice, the costuming, the attitude. Stunning. Marcy to win!!

  • A brilliant performance, Well done Marcella

  • Fantastic :) She gets better and better :) Nice to see Lance and Max were there too.

  • Seeing the 3 weeks back to back it's easy to see, that she's getting more confidence and comfortable, she's giving herself a chance... Great job...Sister!!

  • She was magnificent! Seeing Marcy on this show has fast become my highlight of the week!

  • Astounding xx

  • Wowser she gets better each week just wow ;o)))))

  • A challenging aria for any opera soprano. For a pop/rock singer who has only been singing opera for perhaps two months (bearing in mind a few rehearsals before the series began), this was nothing short of miraculous! Truly, truly wonderful.

  • Just like the previous arias were not difficult enough!! They give Her something even more challenging, and Marcy DID IT!!!!! Amazing!!!

  • She looks like a true DIVA in here!!! Not that she was not :P. Stunning performance, she keeps getting better and better!
