  • Did you all know they all went to high school together, yes sir ee, but what fucking band is this ??? I recognize 2 or 3 of the original members, that's it.

  • It's sad to see Walsh so doped up during this time period. He performs so much better in his sober days.

  • fan friggin tastic

  • Steve is a very nice and funny man... he just does not like the idea of being idolized, so he shies away from it... you can call it stuck up... I call it humbled

  • The drummer is rocking the baddest mullet. . .

  • Dr, Ragsdale and Dr. Walsh! The Premier surgeons!

  • I like this lineup... more energetic than original lineup... but I still need the original lineup for my personal connection with Kansas; they were the true force behind this amazing music... long live Livgren... where's Robbie? The Kansas of the 70's... the TRUE real deal!

  • ignorant assholes, walsh and ehart..they ruined any repsect I had for them by walking away from us after a show, giving all these excuses like john belushi in blues bros!..Walsh can't sing anymore and should have given up years ago, ehart takes the easy way out and no longer cares about playing the songs correct..

    and they fired ROBBIE!!?...wtf?

  • @rdety They didn't fire Robbie. He left the band in 2006, that's when Ragsdale was invited back.

  • @rdety they probably didn't want to be bothered by ignorant assholes... nobody fired Robby

  • @normfromal I read that Walsh "released Robbie of his duties". Seems they wanted their original violinist (David?) to rejoin them. As far as I can read, Robbie didn't want to tour anymore so it may have been a mutual thing. For what its worth, Kansas without Robbie and Kerry is not much Kansas at all.

  • @muzaklover78 David is better

  • David Ragsdale is an absolute beast. To be able to master the fiddle is impressive enough, but to alternate between the violin and guitar in the middle of a song is fucking amazing. No disrepect to Robby Steinhardt, but comparing Robby to David skill-wise is like comparing Wolverine from the X-Men to Barney the Dinosaur.

  • no robbie...no kansas....

  • Happy Birthday Steve!

  • this is so dated... Walsh's antics are so goofy and Rich looks like he spends all his free time at OLE COUNTRY BUFFET.. no Livgrin or Robby here, but Ragsdale is dynamite and the music rocks

  • @leonakita What difference does it make what anybody looks like when they are cranking out music like this?! I suppose you say the same about Johnny Winter or Robin Trower! There is nothing dated about this. This rocks anytime or anywhere!

  • @rickyon how did i end my comment?>>>'no Livgrin or Robby here, but Ragsdale is dynamite and the music rocks'..... love em all!... P.S. ( AND I DIDNT EVEN MAKE A CRACK ABOUT THAT DRUMMERS MULLET! ;>p)

  • @leonakita You're missing the point of my response. You said this is so dated. It's exactly what it should be. It's 1992. You said Rich looks like he spends all his time at Ole Country Buffet. So what!? Ever heard of Leslie West? You said Walsh's antics are goofy. Your opinion. I think it's called showmanship and it comes in all shapes, sizes and colors. Gives you something to watch. Finally, your come back proves my original point, so what if Ehart has a mullet!? I just enjoy the amazing sounds!

  • wow kick ass rock take note young guns

  • 0:40 AAAAAHH......too....much....hair!!

  • six dislikes !dumb asses

  • i was listening to ragsdale's guitar solo, and his tone kinda sounds like neal schon's. weird.

  • Man.. i own this whole show on tape and i recall always wanting the exact guitar that Ragsdale plays here!!! he was my idol for a long time

  • P.S. with the exception a very few...ie.Rush, Queen and cpl of others... ....Kansas might have been the greatest collection of musical talent ever collected onto one stage together...They were one of the few bands who were as good live as they were in the studio...

They do not make musicians like this anymore...You poor saps born after 1980 thinkin Lady Gaga is or that wigger rock crap the radio stations keep stuffin down peoples throats these days need to sit up, shut up & pay attention

  • @wingnutstube well said sir

  • @wingnutstube man i was born in 93 i hate all modern day music, for me 50's 60's 70's and 80's music was the best thank god i was brought up in a world of amazing music like this, kansas are outstanding

  • @wingnutstube damnit i was born after 1980, its ok though because im not partially deaf like most of my generation, long live rock

  • @wingnutstube ...and Pink Floyd

  • any of you idiots claiming Walsh was on drugs here, don't know what the fuck your talking about...

Walsh was and still is a tea totaler when it came to drugs or booze...he doesnt even use tobacco....Lives like a freaking Monk..

Typical punk morons shootin off their mouths about shit they know nothing about...

    Awesome version of this classic....

  • @wingnutstube um. compare this performance to pretty much any other of his, and it's pretty obvious this is a low point in his life with drugs. walsh is out of his gourd here.

  • @tannertehpianist the only thing obvious here is that you don't know what fuck your talking about...

STFU and pay attention...you might learn something beyond playing chopsticks ....

  • @wingnutstube sorry to bust your bubble man, but walsh himself has admitted to his drug use. walsh also smoked and quit when he was 50. i don't know where you get your info from but there are plenty of interviews given by walsh and ehart to the drug use. it's sad by true. hey look, walsh has been and will remain my all-time favorite vocalist - facts are facts.

  • Damn. Ragsdale is a beast.

  • Yeah, your right. I don't know his personal life or habits. He is hands down the best rock vocalist I've ever heard though and performer.

  • like he's acting, its a mystery for sure :)

    nice performance

  • Damn, stop acting that way. It's killing me. I love there instrumental interludes.

  • Kids this your brain on coke. WOW Poor guy, hopefully he gave that shit up. Talk about something that ruins you

  • @duk909 Dude, if you knew anything about Kansas you'd know that Steve Walsh was not on drugs during this video. Go watch WWE and comment to some of yer "good ole boys" that ", Ah think that sum this sheeit might be fake". Stay away from rock and roll icons.

  • love u Steve...song is scary..should be performed that way

  • he looks like another version of the "FLY"

  • Wow! Great version of a great song. But, dang, Steve is coked out of his head!

  • kick ass!!!!!!!!

  • woah steve's out of his mind

  • I like this version also. Steve's a little scary as spinalcrackerbox says, but hey, the SONG is a little scary. This is pretty tight, and I like how close they are together on stage

  • that is not Steve Walsh

  • Yeah... Steve may have laid off the bad stuff, but it's a damn shame that his voice will never go back to the way it was. Time and substances have done their damage.

It really is a pity; he had a FANTASTIC voice in the 70's and early 80's. Still, the instrumentation is flawless. Ragsdale has a very gracious and smooth style that I can appreciate.

  • I wonder where they keep Steve when they aren't touring

  • Whos the freak?

  • What the hell happened to Steve?

    o.O

  • I just love this version. It hits all the right spots, even if Steve's a little scary.

  • Marvelous music!

  • It is a great record so ahead of it's time.

  • WOW i love this Record!!!!

  • Sweet cadence at 2:48-2:52 followed by Steve's eyes popping out of his cranium again!

    Rich was ON that night...

  • sorry to sound so naive? duh>>> was steve messed up in this video? how can u know? >>> seriously I don'T know,,

  • He was embarrassingly messed up on this vid! So much so that they had to go bad and fix the vocal tracks later!

  • If you check out the new Kansas DVD, "There's Know Place Like Home," you'll find that Steve Walsh's voice is doing very well (since he cut out the smoking). But, he no longer is animated, at all, during performances.

But, I really do love what David Ragsdale did with this (on both the violin and the guitar). 5 stars for David.

    Rock On, Kansas dudes!

  • Does anyone know any guitar tabs for this song?

  • Yeah I just watched it again... Damn! I'm going to say it: best Kansas video ever! Good formal introduction, then all the members were so into it! Rich's guitar hit harder than in the studio, really good progression with the immediate pick-up following the two-part Rags solo! It's all there!

Two things I'd change though; they should've played the first part of the Pinnacle with an end fade out! And I just wish Steve could look and act like that as well as have his voice like he did in '78!

  • Shit! The first time I watched this part of Live at the Whiskey, and well, words can't express... that was the BEST! Steve looked amazing and Ragsdale just performed the best two part solo ever!

Why did they let Robbie come back after David Rags did things like this? David owns Robbie at Violin AND Guitar! I'm so glad he's with them now; I kinda got the picture after listening to the new tone the Violin took for Freaks of Nature that Robbie's style is more of a Fiddle player than Violinist!

  • This footage dates back to the Live at the Whiskey days, Phil's hair was real..at least back then.

David ragsdale is an amazing musician.

If you see other footage from this concert, it makes one wonder why Steve felt like adopting a look suspiciously like Pauly Shore!

Hey, it was the late 20th century....

Lots of musicians had bouts odf stupidity back then. It was in LA, after all!

  • AWE SUM KANSAS FOOTAGE !

NEW K DVD in days: " There's Know Place Like Home."

    See YouTube Trailers : )

  • Wow, that violinist/guitarist is so talented!!! His solo was beautiful. ___ Steve Walsh was painful to watch... it must have been hard for the band to witness his decline. Hope he's cut out the drugs by now!

  • in 3 hours I'm seeing Kansas LIVE, they came to my country Panama... I'm so lucky.

  • I would love to see them in concert ,any tour of europe

  • Loved 'em since "74. All things change in 40 years. Phil got new hair but Rich still only has one eye...ironic. I'll admit, I miss Kerry's writing, but the boys can still rock better than most. The thing I keep thinking about this vid is: "The violin/guitar player is pretty good, but OMG!, is that Trevor Rabin at 7:51!?" ; )

  • Great song and cover.....dude loose the vest

  • Awesome Kansas!

Steve should give up the pipe.

  • What is up with Steve? It a mystery

  • Masterpiece ! Kantastic Rock !

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • Good K Stuff !

  • Steve´s on Crack! OwO

  • Steve great voice but get away from the METH!

  • the drummer wears a wig

  • What are you talking about. It's a bad mullet I'll grant you that but a wig? Nope.

  • You're correct, although I don't know if it's a piece or he had transplants.

Personally I don't care. He's been such a good drummer over the years that he could wear a glitter-covered motorcycle helmet on stage and I wouldn't care.

  • this aint kansas at all, The original line up and recording of this tune had Robbie S. singing the first verse.. walsh is a great singer dont get me wrong.. but this is not what the song is supposed to sound like at all.. bad version...oh yeah and Steve is tweaking bad your right,, sad sad sad :O(

  • This is Kansas sounding better than ever except for Walsh being high! Livgren and Walsh wrote the song and Walsh gave almost all of Robbies singing parts to him. If anyone knows how a song should sound it would be the creator. Like it or not this was and still is Kansas since Robbie left. Livgren left long before.Next year will technically be year #40! You can't expect anything to go changeless after 40 years. If you think this sounds bad then you don't know good music.

  • @rickyon

    Righton, rickyon ;)

awesome jam starting at 6:50 . pure Rock and Roll

Phil's playing is so smokin' hott, even Steve has to acknowledge ( @ 7:05) :D

  • KAWABUGA ! Serious Mojo in K Sound !

Not the NORM is USA RocK !

  • Steve actually had better stage presence when he was all coked up by he dresses like some kinda gay cowboy from hell! I love Kansas though! I love Walsh, he just went though a wierd period.

  • Rags is very good.

  • wheres Robby

  • lol Steve is completely coked up. Still great performance.Btw is he still using?

  • NOT !

  • True

  • This is what booze and cocaine will do to ya kids !!!!!This was the last of the hand stand days. Saw this tour and Walsh sounded horrible.

Phil does need to ditch the toupee; c'mon babe nobody cares anymore.

  • The Dreggs were great back in the day. Steve Morse is a class act, I've heard from many friends who've met him

  • saddens me very much to say that Steve Walsh is not "Steve Walsh" any more....

  • What happened to Steve Walsh here? Wow, what a change from the 1974 version.. The violin player is hot!! Great music still...

  • I played the Whiskey in 92'.. Many thanks to the Stage Manager. We opened and I left my Foot switch (about$350) there... I got it back a few days later!!!!!!!! Rock-On!

  • Eharts GOTTA be wearing a Haloween mullet-wig !!! That is simply hideuos hair !!

  • I don't get him in this - looks like he's trying for a Steven Tyler look. O well, he sounds pretty good!

  • drummer has worst mullet EVER !!!! and this is 1992 !!!!!

  • NORMAN IS STILL... STORMIN " ! Thanks for the Video, NORM ! MAN : )

  • It's a shame Steve had become a self-absorbed dope by this point and isn't even of the same caliber of the magnificent musicians around him. He performs like a cariacture of himself. I hope everyone in the audience was stoned so they felt they got their money's worth.

  • Late summer of '91 I'm on vacation in Orlando when I get a call from a friend of mine from back home in Chicago, only he's working at Disney World then. He says, "Wanna go to Daytona to a bar (Pinky's, I believe) and see Kansas?" I said, "You gotta be kiddin'"

We end up making the drive. Turns out Kerry is joining the band for the show. I spent the whole night at the sound board talking to a guy named Steve. Turns out it was Steve Morse. I remembered him from seeing him with the Dixie Dreggs.

  • Anyway, after the show, my wife, my friend, and I are out in back of the bar waiting to see the band depart with a handful of others. We got pics of all of us with each member, including Kerry with his top hat on, but Walsh refused to shake a hand. Some blonde in a red Porsche pulled up, Walsh covered his face with his hands so no pics could be taken, and another girl escorted him out of the bar and into the Porsche and then sat on his lap. How rude. But the rest of the band was class acts.

  • I met the band when i was 13 right after this tour....I had a friend who worked at the venue, so I was able to get back and get autographs from the band. Phil, Richard, Rags, and Billy were all cool...in fact I still remember Rags talking baseball with us for 10 minutes or so. But of course I wanted to meet Steve....he comes out, looks at me like I'm such an annoyance, then reluctantly signs "Steve" on the program and walks away. A hero to me as a kid, but he came off as a complete ahole.

  • @dchris24 Steve Walsh, as extremley talented as he is, is extremley stuck up, condecending, rude, vapid, self-centered, and arrogant. I'm sorry and no disrepect to him, but.....the good ol' LSD (Lead Singers Disease) got to him in their prime. I remember people who met the guys from Kansas saying that everyone eles was extremley friendly and sociable, but Steve had a MASSIVE attitude problem.

  • @fraroc dont forget he put half of Peru's cocaine output down his nose for 20 years....hes the US version of Ozzy but he was talented...kinda sad to see him throw his voice away.

  • @netrioter I'm guessing that he's not as much as a stuck up asshole nowadays that he's sober. I mean, look at the video where the band met a little kid that did a cover of "Dust". Steve seemed to shy away from him and only scribbled on his guitar as an autograph, but you can really tell that he was proud of the kid. But I do agree that it was a bit selfish of him to throw away a beautiful singing voice to get caught up in taking the ole' Peruvian Marching Powder.

  • Bull shit you seen the ORIGINAL

  • What's so hard to believe about that? There's lots of 50 somethings out here that were lucky enough to see Kansas a few times in the 70's! I'll never forget the two times I saw the original lineup!!!

  • Well, the very original was only around for like 2 albums. I thought it would be very unlikely for to have too many BIG shows.

  • The "very original" were around for 8 albums from 1974-1981! They toured their asses off so there were many chances to see them during that time!

  • Didn't they switch drummers and bassists all the time back then :S

  • No. The drummer you see here has always been the drummer and still is. The bass player left when the band split up for 2 yrs. The violin player left, came back for 9 yrs. and then left again! The guy playing violin and the long guitar solo here is now the violin player! The lead singer left and came back! The guitar player with the eyepatch has been with the band the whole time! The bass player was in a band with the lead singer and came with him when he came back!

  • in which case; Wikipedia Is Shit. lol

  • I know what you mean but I keep finding myself going back to it over and over!I guess for the most part it's reliable but sometimes people will put in some stuff that's way off the mark!I always check multiple sources before I believe! You know the old saying "Trust but Verify"!!! Rock on my friend!

  • Hey Rickyon! Long time no talk to... glad to see you're still out here keeping us all honest!!! :-) Hope ya had a great Christmas!

  • Hi Karen, Good to see and talk to you again! My X-mas was good and I hope yours was too!I haven't gone anywhere in fact I started posting my own stuff on you-tube! Just audio with a picture or two but mostly hard to find stuff and some of my favs! Check it out and let me know what you think! I'm in the process of figuring out how to post videos(old dog new tricks!) Chris isn't so bad,he just chooses the wrong words to get his point across and thank you for policing the Kansas malcontents!

  • This is one of the best live performances I´ve seen so far. I love the arrangements and the power Walsh and the band transmit!

  • Kick ass band, kick ass song... Walsh was clearly intoxicated. Poor bastard, i love his music and voice. I hope is recovered by now.

  • He has. From what I know he's clean now.

  • Rich Williams Site - (MEATwall)======CO=M

NEW ROCK Theme Park due soon with KANSAS' help.

See my profile bottom link, POTSW, for info.

    (KANSASBANDCOM)=======KS - Official Band Site

  • Also I agree with Rickyon down below & anyone who loves Kansas pick up the 30th Anniversary

2cd 1dvd Special edition box set it is well worth it for any Kansas fan!

  • Bt the way Steve Walsh looked like he was totally coked up out of his face which he did have a problem with back then he's clean now! I suggest that anyone who likes Kansas pick up the DVD Device Voice Drum it may be without Kerry Livgren but it still kicks ass!

  • It does. And Walsh did a good job at getting his voice back into shape. Not as good as it sounded in the 70s but better than it sounded on this recording.

  • my god it doent even look like the muscular fit steve walsh of old. I do know it effected kerri livgren hes fine now and can sing his ass off for 50 something ..go kansas

  • Walsh is on meth....damn what a shame. He needs help now. He looks like the living dead.

  • Heh. This was 16 years ago.

  • Are you talking about recently?

  • Phil Ehart is an outstanding drummer. Walsh is suffering though...

  • That's because he's wacked out on drugs!

  • Like I said, suffering.

  • He doesn't look like he's suffering here to me! He looks like he's having a good time! What he felt personally and what he actually looked and acted like are two different things! That's the problem with people on drugs! I'm not just pontificating I know from personal experience!

  • Magníficos KANSAS, para siempre. Desde Benalmádena, Málaga, ESPAÑA

  • This doesn't sound even remotely like Kansas. Great musicians though. The drummer is awesome.

  • This is and has been Kansas for the past 15+ years! The drummer is original just better with age! The guitar player with the eyepatch is original just better with age! The lead singer is original and well he's a little fried from drugs here so he doesn't sound great! With a great recording venue and advances in technology they just nail it in this performance! Sounds a lot heavier than you're used to hearing from Kansas! I like it!!!

  • This was the lineup in the 90s. Latest incarnation had Robby back & Greer on bass Doing it as a 5 piece. With todays tech advances the dual keys & guitars are covered by intelligent Pitch shifters & multi-layered programmable keyboards. Much preferred to this Ragsdale lineup. Saw 'em once like this. Twice as 5 piece w/ Robby in this century.:) Heard Robby quit again, so not sure what lineup for 08 is, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't include Rags or those other guys.

  • Robbie quit again in '06 and it's back to Walsh,Williams,Ehart,Greer and Ragsdale who cut his hair short! I saw them twice as original line-up, once with Elefante and once in '96 opening for Styx! They're probably the only band that I'll pay money to see in concert nowadays! To God Damn expensive!

  • Gracias por subir este video, arriba KANSAS; desde Málaga ESPAÑA

  • IMHO, there is no comparison who is the better violinist for Kansas-- How could Ragsdale blend better with the style of the band??? Robbie IS the style of the band. Ragsdale just looks like any other 90's hairband musician (who just happens to play violin). I sure wish Robbie would come back, I don't like them live without him (and Kerry). I'm a total purist -- i'll just continue to live kansas thru their recordings.... (sigh...) :-(

  • It never ceases to amaze me how you so called purist Kansas fans are blinded by your loyalty to reality! Obviously you have a right to your opinion but to say that Ragsdale is like any 90's hairband(he's cut his hair short!) musician is ridiculous! Ask any violin player about his skill on violin(not to mention guitar)and they will tell you he's a better player than Robbie! I love Robbie just as much as anybody and I miss his playing and singing too but your way off the mark about Ragsdale!

  • I'm not questioning Ragsdale's talent. Robbie IS Kansas' style (since he was there when Kansas developed its style!). Robbie's style, & Kerry, Rich, Steve, Phil, etc... that was Kansas' style (rough, midwestern passion). Being a CLINICALLY great musician doesn't automatically make you the best person for the job, a lot of it is personality. Ragsdale can play the songs, but Robbie's heart was in the music. In this video Ragsdale looks the part of hair-band musician, which is NOT Kansas' image.

  • After hearing your reply I have to say that I may have over reacted to you! You've clarified what you stated before which quite frankly could have been taken another way! I completely agree with you about Robbie but I fear he will no longer be playing with the band! I hope that's not true but his last shows with Kansas were pretty bad! He looked run down and was making many mistakes in his singing and playing! Maybe he was sick but some guy who claims to be close to him says he's fine!

  • Like it or not Kansas is what you see here in this video now! It has been for 15+ years and aside from the wear and tear on Walsh's voice they are really tight like they used to be in the 70s but more polished! It seems that to relive the glory days we have to resort to You-Tube! Thank god there are so many Kansas fans and so many vids that keep popping up here! Rock On!

  • Yeah, last time I saw them live was twice in 2006, which must have been one of Robbie's last shows, because in the next show I saw he was gone. Steve looked like he couldn't have been more bored to be there. They didn't look like they were getting along or were happy to be there. Made me sad. That's why I prefer to remember them how they used to be. I must be getting old, I've been a fan since the 70s, in their heyday. Everything changes, :-(

  • How do you think I feel! I'm 50 and have been into them since '75 and yeah I prefer the earliest stuff myself! There's this guy here on You-tube that has an incredible collection of Kansas stuff! If you haven't run across it yet his screen name is ArizonaBasement and he has a grainy copy of a couple of songs from an earlier Kirshner program! "Mysteries and Mayhem" and "Down The Road"!You should check them out! They are the best I've seen on the Tube! Rock On!

  • I know, I've seen some! Where can you get videos or downloads of that stuff? It would be so cool to have some on a DVD, like the old Kirshner's show appearances or other live performances. I have the DVD dvd (the band gave it to my daughter after a concert, she was only 3 and could sing every song! Robbie even came down off stage to say hi to her during the show, he's such a class act and so nice!) but I'd love to be able to have more live performances from the early days.

  • Locate a copy of Kansas Sail On The 30th Anniversary Collection! You'll get 2CD's and 1 DVD! The DVD has 5 vids from the Kirshner shows(Live),3 from the Earthlink (live) 2002 show and 8 vids ranging from Dust in the Wind to Fight Fire With Fire! It's well worth the price!

  • Forgot to add that every one of these videos except the "Earthlink Live" cuts are on You-Tube but the DVD is perfect audio and video quality! Also there is a lot of commentary by the band in between cuts!

  • Come on man...just because he, along with Walsh, is the only one that DOESN"T need a makeover? Nothing wrong with looking the part on stage, especially when you got the chops to go along with it.

  • This just shows your naivete, Chris. Kansas fans aren't in it for looks. That's a development from the MTV generation. Back "in the day," we used to listen to music that was good without needing a flashy video to go along with it, sometimes we didn't even know what the band looked like--Kansas fans like Kansas because of the music and what it makes us FEEL and THINK, and because it's damnn good music.

  • The Caveman/Appalachian reference is just a return shot to all the people bagging on Rags hair/looks, etc....perhaps fans of Steinhardt shouldn't be disparaging someone's looks.

  • Hey Chris I know where you're coming from but 2 wrongs don't make a right! You shouldn't "bag" Robbie to get back at the Rags raggers! Rags is a gifted player but remember Robbie is the original and has endeared himself to a lot of people(including myself!)that have had the pleasure to meet him! I'm not saying Rags isn't a great guy just saying when you go after such a beloved guy(even tongue in cheek) it's like messing with a kitty in the lions den! We're all on the same team! We love Kansas!

  • "90's hairband musicians"

well, since the 90's was the grunge decade, your comment says plenty about your music knowledge, no offense. Again, there's no crime in looking good on stage when you have monster chops to boot. Seriously...why do all the old crusty Kansas/Robby fans have such a problem with Rags being a good looking guy? Do you all have an Appalachian-CaveMan fetish?

  • "No offense" to you either, Chris, but I was very aware of what was going on in music in the 90's--I've got a few years on you and I was there. Who ever said I had problem with Rags being good-looking? Read my earlier posts. Rags is a great violinist, but Robby was there from the beginning, and his style made Kansas what it was in its heyday. And I DO take offense to the Appalachian Caveman comment. Robby's a great guy- he played a very special part in Kansas, and his fans will always love him.

  • No kidding Kansas fans aren't in it for looks....if I cared about what they looked like I wouldn't be a fan. My point is that on all of these videos I've read comments about Ragsdale's looks....as if it's such a crime to look good on stage. Robby might've been the original sound of Kansas, but that doesn't mean it's better. Rags is far superior and adds a lot to the band....which is why Walsh is glad to have him back.

  • Chris, maybe this will help. Say I like Picasso's art, for instance. But Picasso's not available so someone gives me a Thomas Kincade. A fine artist, but it's NOT the same. You can argue that one is better than the other, but it's apples to oranges, there is no comparison, they're a completely different style, both great at what they do. That's how I feel about the Robby/Rags thing. I just like Robby's style, and he was Kansas' storyteller/frontman, not just the violinist. He is missed! :-(

  • I can appreciate that...when Robby first came back I was excited because I never saw the original lineup. After seeing them, I preferred Ragsdale. To each their own, there's just no need to "rag" on Rags because of his looks.

  • Geez. How much happy dust was Steve Walsh tweaking here? I graduated high school in '77 so you can't fool me. What could have been a multi-millionaire.....what a waste.

  • I read in an interview that this lineup they had was the best at recreating all the kansas material. We knew we were good! This was said by david ragsdale.

They went out every night and just kicked ass!

  • well i still miss Steve Morse man..

  • Yeah I remember hearing this on cassette and saying "Goddam these guys have been woodsheddin' because it was so tight! Super polished and on the C.D. it says that this entire show was done in one take! There are 14 songs on the c.d. and I've been trying to get the poster to post more of them! We can only hope!

  • good, but not the same without livgren and steinhart.

  • PROG ROCKS!!!!!!!

    ps: wheres the f****** beard??

  • Truth be told, I like Dave Ragsdale (the violinist/guitarist in this vid) better then Steinhardt as a band member. His style seems to blend better with the rest of the music. Plus, it's pretty funny; Phil Ehart always looks like he's angrily talking to himself when he drums...

  • Like the Walsh/Elefante debate(there is none as far as I'm concerned!) Steinhardt/Ragsdale comes up from time to time. I agree with you that Rags fits better and is a better player but I will always love Steinhardt's harmonies(Truly unique!)and he wasn't a shabby violinist either! As far as Ehart is concerned you're right. From day one he's had that look when he plays.

  • Wow! These guys were really on fire! Kinda wish the fellas were a little more animated these days as well. They're still great though!!

  • Haha it'd be nice to see some movement, but this song is crazy complex, if they can't move around but can still kick ass on this song, go for it

  • This was filmed in an L.A.nightclub called the Whiskey a go-go and as you can see from the long shots there isn't a whole lot of room on the stage to move around! They do kick ass though don't they?

  • This is an awesome version of this song, they're really smoking on it. Too bad there's no Robbie Steinhart
