I don't rate your opinion because the chain of events do not support it. Grosso didn't "run into Kneel" prior to KNEEL throwing himself to ground. That Kneel did this first, in an obvious attempt to impede on the players progress to goal (not the ball, but the player) was strike #1. Then, because kneel put himself into this negligent position, he basically caused the contact with the player, before the ball. That = PENALTY. It's straightforward. Kneel f'd up and paid the price.

Your opinions are respected, but in truth, Neill put himself in a position, where Grosso could fall to the deck intentionally, to draw the foul. In the penalty area, players with the ball (italian or not) are encouraged to fall with the slightest touch. That is football, and that is the way to win unfortunately.

My view is that Neill was just trying to stop Grosso from crossing the ball into the centre. He goes to ground in front of Grosso and is sliding slightly towards goal line not into Grosso. Grosso is moving towards Neill and hasn't got enough room or time to avoid contact with Neill. As with the hand grabbing Grosso foot, well that could be debatable. It may have just landed on Grosso foot and Grosso foot forced hand up as he was falling.

I don't rate your opinion because the chain of events do not support it. Grosso didn't "run into Kneel" prior to KNEEL throwing himself to ground. That Kneel did this first, in an obvious attempt to impede on the players progress to goal (not the ball, but the player) was strike #1. Then, because kneel put himself into this negligent position, he basically caused the contact with the player, before the ball. That = PENALTY. It's straightforward. Kneel f'd up and paid the price.

Well I guess these muppet Aussie whinger, and all other Italian haters will either ignore that Malouda and Henry dove, as well as the other national team divers such a C.Ronaldo, Adriano, Crespo, Shevchenko, Nedved, Klose, and the list goes on, or they're proclaim that these are all Italians in disguise. Nevertheless, the amount of racism shown in these threads is appauling. I even have half baked 10 year olds citing World War II as some sort of relevence. Go back to Cricket you whingers.

I don't know why these images have never been showed from this angle during the world cup with this kind of analysis. I think thats a big mistake from the medias but i think there is an intention behind it. It wouild have been very easy to show that the penalty could have been given.

I myself am an Aussie, and after watching your video, I agree it was a penalty, so don't just put all Aussie's in the same "whinger" boat, because those that think this was a dive are either ignorant or blind.

Paul4tt, you're in the minority. If you are truly Australian and can admit the truth, then props to you. There aren't many, and most that I've met are so completely blinded by their jealousy and ignorance of the game they'll willingly spread racist stereotypes. This video is debunking their myths but it still doesn't stop a good many Australians from trying to get racist messages through.

It's funny to witness all the b.s. excuses that whinging Aussies still make up. They deny contact, but there was contact. They cite rules that state it is a free kick but forgot to read a few pages down in the FIFA rule book that say ANY CONTACT AS SUCH INSIDE THE BOX = PENALTY KICK. Free kick only when outside the box. The best is that Grosso purposely ran into Kneel. Did Grosso FORCE KNEEL to go down faster than a 50c whore too?

yes good job to show this. bunch of amateurs on youtube talk nonsense..i would add however man was between grosso and the goal and he was down. this damaged the run of grosso..if grosso dived or not makes no difference - it is always a penalty - as the stupid o'neill fell in front of him impeding the run. The fact he also raised his arm supports the thesis of penalty even if he did for protection he damaged grosso

Your opinions are respected, but in truth, Neill put himself in a position, where Grosso could fall to the deck intentionally, to draw the foul. In the penalty area, players with the ball (italian or not) are encouraged to fall with the slightest touch. That is football, and that is the way to win unfortunately.
For mine, there were fouls in the penalty box during the world cup that seemed far more unmerited than this one.

Some moron said Fifa appologized for that call, but what they don't know was that 10 days later Sepp Blatter appologized to Italy and said that the Australian media took his comments out of context and that Italy deserved to win that game and the cup. So you all can stop leaning on that lying twats words as any sort of testimony because he just says what he believes will get him re-elected. My view is that Neill was just trying to stop Grosso from crossing the ball into the centre. He goes to ground in front of Grosso and is sliding slightly towards goal line not into Grosso. Grosso is moving towards Neill and hasn't got enough room or time to avoid contact with Neill. As with the hand grabbing Grosso foot, well that could be debatable. It may have just landed on Grosso foot and Grosso foot forced hand up as he was falling.

Mighty Roos, full props for prefacing your comments with "your views" and being a Socceroo fan it's obvious that you don't think Neill did it intentionally, but the rules speak for themselves and are quite conclusive on the matter. The bottom line is that Neill put himseld in a punishable position then copped the blame on someone else. That's irresponsible since it was 100% penalty. I agree too. Why doesnt anybody argue with the diving skills of Malouda in the final game?I can not see that there was a contact there and he started to fly very late.

i was in berlin in first rows sitting in line with the malouda fall...it seemed a fall even at the stadium. Tv then gave it away completely. MAlouda dived for sure. Henry too in semifinal. But this is football.

Ultimately its actually Schwarzers fault. If Schwarzer could have pulled off a save like he did to get the Aussies into the world cup against Paraguay in that shootout, Australia could've had a chance to win the World Cup.
A good goalkeeper sets the standard for the whole team, just look at Italy, they have maybe the best keeper in the world and they won it.

Actually it was Shwarzer who kept you in the game, notice the game save on Toni and Gilardino in the first half. Both of those should have been goals and ended this rubbish that anyone was robbed from the get go. You had 45+ minutes of unfair advantage and couldn't do anything with it. That's reality.

Essentially you confirmed that the ref got the call right without the need to see "still" photographs proving that Neill's sloppy and lazy tackle interefered with the run of play, made contact, and removed a goal from happening. Randall, nice revision of history, but Neill throws himself to ground first. See the chain of events that Neill initiated makes it so that he is responsible for the fact that Grosso isn't able to go around him in the time allotted from the time he went to ground to the time he makes contact.

Then he turns around and lifts his elbow to make contact with Grosso's leg whilst Grosso was trying to step over him? He impeded on Grosso, holding him back. Grosso just put some theatrics into it, which 100% of players would do. Just watch Henry week in and out. IN fact 100% of players would do it.
