  • My always assumed my whole life that he was drunk as a skunk while hosting The Match game but I was told that he wasn't. I'm still not convinced. Seriously.

  • Uh, that would be "Kukla, Fran, and Ollie", in point of fact!

  • Dang but that was funny. Rayburn was the TV host god of his day. Thanks so much for sharing.

  • oopsies!

  • It just goes to show, nipples have tremendous power over us men

  • that's william shatner?

  • Yes she does, Gene...and her dimples are nice, too.

  • ... acid!

  • Looks like she was a good sport about it:)

  • The best game show ever. The panelists were always so fucked up. Hilarious.

  • Shatner and Rayburn, it's an AWESOME OVERLOAD

  • the old freudian slip

  • @weightfeather1 I wasn't sure either until they showed a closeup of him near the end, it definitely is. Seems a bit random ;)

  • I understand the Cuckoo Friend and Ollie thing, I just don't see why it is so hilarious.

  • gene: "you have pretty dimples, and some nice tits to boot!"

  • "Cuckoo, Friends and Ollie! LMAO!!

  • Obviously before your time kid.. either that or you have no sense of humor.......

  • The program was "Kukla, Fran, and Ollie"

  • "Match Game" supposedly taped six episodes per day and "refreshments" were served to the "stars" between tapings. Including booze. That's why the stars seem loopier in some episodes than in others...

  • I've heard that too. And you can genuinely tell which episodes were filmed after the "refreshments."

  • I don't think drinks would be served on the premises of CBS Television City. I seem to remember that the celebrities would go to a nearby restaurant between the thrid and forth tapings (except for the antisocial Richard Dawson).

  • Match Game taped six shows on Saturday and six shows on Sunday (five CBS shows and one syndicated show). Price is Right taped in the same studio on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Carol Burnett used the studio on Thursday and Friday (taping her show on Friday evening).

  • Now when I was a kid I wouldn't have been familiar with Kukla, Fran & Ollie, but if I was asked Cuckoo _____, I would've known to answer "clock." "Cuckoo, Fran & Ollie?" What was she thinking?

  • I wonder if Bill still has that rug in his collection?

  • So where'd you get your hair...Carpeteria?

  • THE BEST !

  • Match Game was da shit.

  • @friskycurtain Is "da shit" good or bad? :o

  • That's a good thing.

  • i love tv gameshow bloopers.

  • I like Gene's expression after saying nipples, its like oh sh!t then gulp!

  • Cuckoo Friend and Ollie?!!!!!!

That dope wasn't even close to the actual name - is Kukla, Fran and Ollie. Not Friend. LMAO!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • This was probably the first time the Karen Lesko incident was broadcast, unlike what is said in the video of Gene on THE LATE SHOW with Ross Shafer, which was taped in '88, I think. Gene says there it was edited out of the broadcast, although some say it actually did make it to air.

  • The actual episode that aired didn't include that incident, but they were clearly still recovering from that faux pas.

  • That 'nipples' woman has a sexy smile. I can't quite nail who it reminds me of but I'm thinking....Anne Bancroft?

  • Holy cow! I remember when this aired back in ,84. Of course, I was 10 and didn't get a lot of the slip-ups, but I remember my mother ROLF over the cockoo one.

  • i dont get the coocoo one @_@ might someone explain? XDDD

  • She said CooCoo Fran and Ollie which was a 50's kids show. It was actually called Kukulu, Fran and Oliie. She got the name wrong and that's why everyone was hysterical.

  • OH! xDD thanks!

  • I've been looking for this video clip. I saw this when it first aired. I laughed out loud for a long while and nearly fell off the sofa.

  • I just don't understand what the woman said, it sounded like:

    'Cuckoo friend and ollie'

    ??????????????????

  • That's exactly what she said. In the 50s, 60s and 70s there was a children's puppet show on many local stations called "Kukla, Fran and Ollie."

This contestant bumbled both the answer and the name of the show she was trying to fit into the answer.

  • why'd gene say sam and irving? just to mock how wrong she was?

  • yeah

  • nipples in cheeks??????? LOL

  • For me, I would've said Cuckoo Cuchoo!

  • i was thinking cuckoo for coco puffs. hahaha.

  • She does have pretty nipples doesn't she?lol

  • Gene Rayburn ROCKS!! I sure miss him...

  • Very pretty nipples.

  • OMG I SAW THAT ONE ON GSN

  • That was awesome! Great bit of nostalgia there.

  • Gene was the absolute best in the game show genre. It is so sad that he passed in '99. I still watch him on Match Game whenever I can.

  • I love watching Gene on MG. Never paid attention to how Gene said cheeks after trying to correct himself.

As for Cuckoo BLANK the only two I could think of were clock and bird.

Both of those are simply hilarious.

  • Gene does look great. Gene was considered hosting MG 90 but they felt he was too old. What were they thinking. I think it would have better with him instead of Ross.

  • The pilot for MG 90 was actually hosted by Bert Convy, but he was forced to back out due to being diagnosed with a brain tumor not too long afterwards. He died from it the following year, not too long after this version of "Match Game" went off the air.

  • Gene looked really good at 66 (or 67) in here-honest to goodness. With all respect to Ross Shafer, Gene should have hosted MG 1990.

  • It wasn't Gene Rayburn's fault, apparently.ABC wasn't somebody younger to give the show a fresher feel.

  • Both the "Karen Lesko" and the "Cuckoo BLANK" clips looks extremely hilarious!!

  • I don't get that "Cuckoo, Friend and Ollie" incident. I know that it's really "Cucula, Friend and Ollie" (or something like that) but why did Gene go crazy after she gave that answer?

  • You pretty much answered your own question. Personally, the fact that she was so confident about it, like the money was a LOCK now, was what made it so funny to me.

  • dude, because, thats not a normal answer, and somehow doubt any of the celebrities would match it! Cuckoo "CLOCK" is a normal, and an easy win answer... not Cucula, Ollie (the puppets)

  • Because it was such an easy match and she blew it by ignoring the obvious and giving an obscure and incorrect answer. The only two answers I can think of are Cuckoo Bird and Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

  • What about "Cuckoo CLOCK"?

  • Clock was the most obvious by far.. I meant that other than Clock, the only two answers I can think of are bird and cocoa puffs.

  • Okee! :)

  • Kukla, Fran and Ollie.

So, not only did she mess up the obvious answer of Cuckoo Clock, she totally mangled the actual title of the show. Plus, like AdamNedeff said, her total confidence with her answer was a hoot!

  • @vanni9283 Probably because she said it wrong.

  • @vanni9283 I just saw a longer version of this. This is after she had another terrible answer. Plus this answer was wrong for two reasons. He explains that the show she was referencing is called: Kukla, Fran and Ollie. So she was doubly wrong.

  • @Badnewz730

What was the other terrible answer she gave?

  • @vanni9283 The Question was: I caterpillar bought a hundred pairs of sneakers and a blank. And the salesman said, you must be an athlete. She said accordion.

The full clips is the 4th one down titled: MATCH GAME: CUKOO

  • @vanni9283 Uh because it's not CUCULA but CUCKOO

  • Kukla, Fran and Ollie

  • @vanni9283 FYI it's Kukla, Fran and Ollie

  • @vanni9283 It should be Kukla, Fran & Ollie: not sure why he went crazy

  • @sierradane Maybe because she got 2 of the 3 names wrong. She said Cuckoo Friend and Ollie.

  • @vanni9283 Kukla, Fran and Ollie.

  • @vanni9283 actually it was Cucula Fran and Ollie !!!!!! Pretty sure

  • I surprised they didn't put that on the match agme dvd.

  • Hey Adam, great clip! Do you have this entire show somewhere, or do you even have the second one that Bill Shatner hosted? I remember seeing both of them when I was a kid way back when.
