  • Sorry dude, way too fast

  • Positive: You play this piece very well, and you are capable of playing at a very fast pace

Negative: At times you play it just a tad too fast, one example being in the resoluto section. Also, not much you can do about this, your piano needs tuning :D

  • i enjoyed this pace very much

  • Yeah collegeswimmer's right

  • Tu le joue trop vite mais sinon pas mal

  • The tempo is perfect.

  • woaah i like . ♥

  • duine contro terzine: un dramma!!!

  • I personally like this piece played both fast and slow... I truly feel it could go either way.

When I play pieces like this, I tend to play them faster; perhaps because of the excitement and anticipation of every note.

However, when I listen to slower versions, I can relish each piece and float on every note.

A truly great musical piece can be manipulated, yet still sound beautiful.

Arabesque no.1 is a perfect example.

  • i agree with you senorAcaraballo..you really have to slow down your tempo and watch out for dynamics

  • Nicely done! Be mindful of the dynamics and the "feeling" of the song. There are plenty of places in this piece to slow down and enjoy the moment. Experiment with that and you will take this up to a whole other level. \m/O-O\m/

  • Nice one man, definitely keep going!

One thing I'd recommend though is trying to achieve more expression, maybe slow it down a bit. But still, props

  • Good job!

try not rushing through the song as much and let the notes sing

  • blurry dream?!?!?! more like a dream of a racecar... slow down

  • Thats too fast

  • Not diff-i-cult. Not diff-i-cult. Repeat ad infinitum.

I just started this yesterday, and your polyrhythm tip was tremendous. I've been passing it along to other people already lol.

  • to fast, to fast, to fast SHUT UP

This is just how he/she plays it. As long as the technique is good enough I don't see a problem... (ok there are some constraints but pls don't say its too fast when its just your opinion ;))

  • @XxbambambxX

I can see your point, but I think the reason most people are saying it's too fast is that there comes a point when excessive speed (yes I know it's subjective) takes away from the nuance of the piece. There are so many opportunities to take freedom with this piece and really make it beautiful and unique, but if you just blaze through it full throttle, you're really missing out on some great expressive lines. That's just my opinion. Some people may just like speed for speeds sake...

  • @TheSuitIsNOTBlack Oh well I can see your point too because I got the same opinion xD

For me it's to fast too^^ but I just don't say it because as long as the technique is good enough the player can decide how fast he/she plays it =)

Btw for me, the video from Stanislav Bunin is the most beautiful version on Youtube ;)

  • Faster does not equal better.

  • I like this song slower too but that's just me. My mum has played it since I was a kid (actually since she was a kid LOL) and so it's just what I'm used to. This is one of my fav pieces of music! :D

  • Much, MUCH too quickly on this piece...for one thing, you shouldn't be able to play it from beginning to end in less than 4 minutes, that's for sure. Also, your pedaling and dynamics are rather shallow...take your time on this one. This piece should be treated with warmth and delicacy. Bottom line, I think the interpretation is rather harsh.

  • Oh and BTW this got Crap dynamics :L

  • Yeah I hate it fast it just sounds so stupid !

  • Why does everyone play this song so fast..?

  • more pedal my friend.. its supposed to have depth...

  • You I love playing this song but I like to play it slow to me it has a lot emotion in it some how hearing this play fast I can't sense anything I don't feel any emotions out it

  • If u didn't rush and add dynamics it would sound perfect

  • I'm learning this piece now....I'm finding the two against three rhythm to be difficult. Do you have any tips?

  • must more slowly in a little bit, agree with @hcaguas

  • Gosh, this is really fast.

  • You know no matter what others say i love it!! <3<3<3<3<3

  • I also think it is a very good tempo, dude. You rock ! (Y)

  • take of the rocket from your ass let the notes ring....

  • Geez can everyone chill about the tempo. I thought in a distinct manor, it was played exquisitely.

  • whatever happened to legato? as i recall there are lots of TIES in the piece, especially the beginning, which creates the beautiful waterfall-ish effect: the different notes all toppling over each other. it's not meant to be played like a spritely baroque song with the fingers moving....let your hands do the work, and let your fingers glide over the keys. don't just let the pedal to the legato work; let your hands linger on the notes a little longer.

  • Magnífico colega, la mejor que he escuchado.

  • I for one loved your tempo, wouldnt really want it any other way

  • Whoa!! You, sir, need to take a few steps back in order to properly appreciate the most gorgeous piece from the aptly named Romantic Period. The boundaries you've set for pushing and pulling at the tempo are too rigid; loosen them up more. In a rubato setting, don't take the mosso section that seriously. In most cases, the right hand should slightly overpower the left. This is a piece to get lost in when listening to it and when playing it. I know I do for either case.

  • I had never heard this piece until earlier this month, a gifted pianist friend played it for me. I was mesmerized!

  • This is the first time I'm hearing this piece, so in my unbiased opinion I love this piece... It's awesome what you do... I just started following your piano tutorials... Thanks a lot for what you do...

  • "A slower temp makes this piece drag too much".

Clearly not, this is one of the most romantic piece ever known and by trying rush it completely ruins the entire piece.

  • Too fast!!! This masterpiece cannot be apreciated with your tempo, man!

  • Are you trying to win a race? slow down.

  • Fantastic! The tempo you played it at was perfect.

  • Sounds Great!!

  • you're an inspiration, ill play one day like that but not yet...

  • Your hands are perfect for piano:) My hands are so small! I'm suprised I can even play guitar or bass

  • Your fingers just fly over the keys *-* you did this justice.

  • an manchen stellen wäre etwas mehr pedal noch besser gewesen..un ein paar stellen sind meiner meinung nach zu schnell^^...aber das ist ja Interpretationssache :)

    klasse gespielt!

  • @JOJOMAAN seh ich genauso!

  • yours is so much better than mine!! :(

  • wow great

  • dont know a thing about piano playing,

    but this,

    this is great.

  • just a comment from a guitarist so take it as it is...

In my opinion it seems to me a bit too fast...

but congratulatione for the playing like this anyway...

  • Great to see the hands at work, how they take an inanimate object and produce the creation of a genius. Always loved this piece! Uplifting not sad, Tomita's version worth a listen if you haven't already........Es una preciosa pieza para piano.

  • Très très très bien joué !!!! Toutes mes félicitations :) Bravo !

  • Beautiful. I learned this piece last year...and you play it very well. Thanks for posting.

  • How can anyone dislike this version? It's better than the way Debussy himself played it. The original version does drag on. This is amazing.

  • @Darksunshinerain87 No. Not better than Debussy lol.

  • @SuperMustacheman Well, look at you! Looks like we have another pretentious douche on board here. Kudos.

  • @Darksunshinerain87 lol, you do know who Debussy is ? This version is good, but come on. Claude Achille Debussy ? He composed the freaking piece, he must know how to play it better than anyone.

  • @SuperMustacheman Of course I fucking know who Debussy WAS. He's not alive anymore so for you to claim that the way Debussy played it is better is false. I doubt you were alive when he played this live and all we have is the written music. I never said he plays better than Debussy. I said that this version is better than the version Debussy wrote. The one he wrote just doesn't have the impact. It drags and it doesn't sound as extravagant. Try to read what people write carefully next time.

  • @Darksunshinerain87 HUH ?

this is the exact same thing !!! Its not different.

  • merci beaucoup pour le awesome rendition

  • SPIRIT FINGERS *___*

  • Why all this "it's so fast"-talk? It is the animation video that is too slow. But Debussy's pieces are pretty free in tempo and in this the middle part is noted Tempo Rubato.

And when I play this piece, I also finds it more comfortable to play this fast : )

    Well played!

  • I love your dynamics. It was fast but like your description said it was more comfortable to play it that way. =)

  • you should play it slightly slower, the original track is around five minutes, your cover (which is fantastic) us less than four minutes

  • @CorruptedVision I agree, I was at the recording of the "original track" and I remember Debussy commenting on how it needed to be around five minutes in length and not a moment faster. Debussy, Gustave Eiffel and me used to visit the same prostitute so we got to know each other and talked a lot about music, that's how I know.

btw how do you think Eiffel got the idea for the tower? am i rite? :) 20 internet points if you get it.

  • @banihex umm im guessin it was his last name? or first, im not sure

  • Your watch is on the wrong arm. Anyhow, great playing.

  • Love this piece. I think this is a prime example of how the tempo of a certain piece

can change the whole emotion of the song and Debussy does it wonderfully. I have no preference on how this should be played only that it is played with full emotion behind it.

  • I've heard it slower but the way you play it it's wonderful. Thanks a million for making us enjoy it!!!

  • Thanks, I enjoyed that. Love Debussy.

  • God bless you for sharing this, this piece is so magic!

  • I like this speed too!

  • PLEAAAASE TEACH US THIS

  • I prefer it slower... you play it very fast! But it sounds great anyway :)

  • What can I say?

I loved it! Nice work! :o)

P.S.: Yes, people, we all know it's slower! But c'mon! This is good stuff! =D

  • I am leaning piano just because of this piece

    well done

  • many people play it to slow. thats a better way to do it;)

    Like it :)

  • It's faster than the original but that shows that you're really good !!!!!

  • very fast but good

  • i think you should play slower and softer

  • sounds a little fast to ,me, but you're amazing my friend, keep it up

  • you did it beutiful i wish i ....... but ye thats not something im good at +D =P

  • I love this song, I play it myself , and I know that it's a challenge to learn, but I have to agree with @domclarke92 you would get much out of not stress through the entire song, otherwise great job :)

  • Nice! BTW – you can learn to play this song in half the time with new gadget that reads MIDI files.

    Google “Gizmag and PianoMaestro”

  • really well played, but i think it would benefit from being a little slower

  • half a million views!

  • Comment removed

  • You play it very beautiful! I am practising. Just finished the first part. The triplets at the end of this part are the most difficult for me to play at speed. Just more practise, i guess?

  • im learning this :) i have to by june -.- you play it beautifully! :) what was your practicing method? haha i'm thankful for any tips

  • i just heard this wonderful piece being played in a recital . when i discovered the name of this piece , i cant describe how happy i were , :)

  • haters gonna hate!

  • Thank you for the lessons!

    Arabesque?! Is it Arabian?!

    Oudist Bader, Saudi Arabia

  • @BaderAlbadrany502 french. :P

  • Why are everyone complaining about him playing faster then the original? I mean you need to put you own feeling into everything you play that you haven't written yourself. I think this is a very good and beautiful performance.

By the way, thank you so much for your online piano lessons. They help me a lot and there's no other music lesson series on youtube that is as detailed and good as yours. Your students in real life should be so happy to have you as their teacher :D

  • So I've listened to this like ten times now :) I think it sounds really nice at a fast tempo. I can't find a single bad thing to say about this performance. Don't listen to the people who tell you to slow down; your tempo and dynamics are just fine! Never quit playing piano :)

  • im so sorry... but ur hands were too flat when u played the piano... and sometimes u played it too rush... maybe it will be better if u put more feelings into the song.. so tht u will feel the dynamic better... however.. its so nice for some one who can play such a difficult song from debussy.. well done.. ^^

  • What are you doing! NO its the dynamics as well as the tempo ( in some sections )

Not all -ve. some characterisations and colour are present

  • the intro sounds like like the sea by alicia keys. Wonderful.

  • @PingGuerrero I check it and that song is based on this Arabesque. It is completely the same... poor Debussy.. :(

  • but hey, im the one to complain, when I cant even play claire de lune on the piano

=^-^= lol. but good job anyways :))

  • it sounds better slower. . . not to cramp your style, but i think it sounds better played slower

  • doesnt anyone think this person is going just a bit fast?

  • pretty hands, i love your playing! :)

  • @Maddallina27 i like your speeding version better... :)

  • 1:06 - 1:09 is the hardest part of the song >_<

  • I love your playing. Oh, pretty hands, by the way ;)

how long have you been learning this?

  • I thought it was played beautifully, I listen to this peice a lot, the tempo was nice even though a little fast, everybody has a different take on how they like it. You cant go wrong with Debussy, it is so peaceful.... :)

  • is this the original copy? because i have a version in the same key and similar but it seems it is missing random left hand harmony notes etc. compared to the version you've played. good job on the rising triplet chords by the way.

  • Music like this really moves me....this is so well played...I have Paul Jacobs' recordings of Debussy and they are so beautiful - this rendition is just sublime....I wish I could listen to this gentleman play some Frank Bridge as well....great human (with a great cat too, LOL!)

  • Haha, I love your comment about how people shouldn't comment about your rushing. Very smart! I agree too...people shouldn't criticize your interpretation. You have piano hands! (a compliment) Long fingers...which means wider stretch! :D I wish I had bigger hands! GREAT JOB!

  • Great! How many years have you been playing piano? I'm wondering if this piece is too hard for me...but I reallllly want to play it!! :D

  • BRILLIANT!!! I loved this soo much, thank you for this wonderful rendition!

  • Excellent. Played around the tempo that i perform it at. Good dynamics control

  • Wha, this piano is so bright! a little too bright....

  • i liked it,but isn't it a little fast? but even so,it's very good...i will play this piece in a video soon...

  • very nice

  • you go to fast. ;) hahaha JK i liked this tempo ALOT. :D

  • absolutely beautiful

  • excellent!!! you really feel it, dont you? love ur hands!! they are beautiful!!! xoxox

  • first time hearing this piece, absolutely beautiful & very nicely played. I have never really explored Debussy's music before but I definitely will after listening to this!

  • Damn dude. You are like the master. Then again I don't play piano lol I'm a trumpet player. I only have 3 buttons :P

  • i've never heard this piece but i love the pace you played it at,

    it was very beautiful.

  • ur wearing ur watch on the wrong hand maybe thats why somepeople think ur a female hahaha watch goes on left hand

  • thx ur vid helps a lot but... 1:09 how do you do that thing so fast , i can't do it nearly as fast and with errors!

  • That was amazing well done! my piano skills are crap =[

  • STOP RUSHING

  • The piano doesnt help. However, where is your heart. Please slow dont play so fast.

Anybody who attempts this piece has my utmost respect.

  • you are so awesome! im just barely starting out on the piano and i can't seem to bring the left and right hand parts together. any tips for a novice?? Please&thankyou :D

  • Gah! Looking at such talent makes me feel inferior. I can't get this song right, ever! But I do agree with your description of this song. I think that way too.I'm a girl and your hands are even prettier than mine. Oh woe is me!

  • Beautifully expressed

  • beautiful! my mom used to play this when i was kid and it brings back some damn good memories, thanks ya

  • Fàtt créss un pûu da müsccuj! :D

  • Very impressive!!! Really. But I like this song a little more slow, giving some "life" to its notes, letting sound them quitely. Don't know if I explain it clearly.

By the way, I envy your talent, I'm a bad guitarist and I'd play piano this way, congratulations for your gift :-)

  • why is the watch on your right hand?

  • @xerreon2 He's probably left handed...or just too much of a badass.

  • i prefer this piece slower, but still very well played. i cant do it : )

we seem to have a similar taste, i love all pieces that you recorded

  • Its beautifully interpreted , i would prefer it al wee bit slow

  • Very impressive, you played it nearly perfect!

  • hello0o dude

    i love u man (K)

  • i'm playing this piece now to! my version is much slower than this one... anyway, i'm getting pretty good at playing this piece, so check out my video on youtube (when i upload it, of course) and tell me your opinion about it!

  • Debbusy is an impressonist . I thought that you played the piece very well : D

  • @juggulag1234 Debussy was most definitely not an impressionist...moron...

  • @unknownkingdom actually, he was. MORON.

  • woww you played this beautifully! i'm learning this piece but i struggled with the triplets

  • I do not like music as well ... looks like it's too fast ... I do not know the correct speed ... but I think it was slower perhaps could be a little better.

    You are good! 8D

  • Debussy is complicated guy. Good job!

  • Damn!! Incredible, incredible, love it. awesome dude. would love to do that.

  • Yah, the player definitely has the technique, while musicality and expressibility is always to the player's discretion.

  • Awesome, so relaxing, I love the tempo. and your beginning teaching lessons are magnifico. You are a wonderful person to share so much with us.

  • This doesn't seem a very difficult piece, but it demands such a coordination beteen both hands!!

  • You're an excellent pianist, with a lot of talent.

    Also, you have pretty hands.

  • Why IS it hard to record the piano without the right equipment. Voice mics I guess.

    GREAT performance.

  • this is sooo beautiful

  • BRAVISSIMOOO!

  • bravo !!!!!*****

  • Added to favourites...Love & Appreciation:)

  • wow. amazing

  • Softer. Slower. more sonority

  • it's suppose to be a stream, NOT a rapid. Emotions and Musicality. no need to show of technical skills here. Pedal deeper (your middle sections needs to be even slower)

  • @ninijo1234 I don't know why people like you just can't let people play however they please (that *is* the correct way to play anything), especially seeing as Lypur obviously isn't a novice on the piano. If you want to hear him to play it the way you like it, ask nicely and don't demand that he plays it your way because it's the right way.

  • it's suppose to be a stream, NOT a rapid

  • isnt it tooooooo fast ?? o.O i dont like it fast well, not on this composations .. on these old composations theyve to play slowly and emotionally but you play really good and every pianist has his own " style "

  • isnt it tooooooo fast ?? o.O i dont like it fast well, not on this composations .. on these old composations theyve to play slowly and emotionally

  • i know this is a big ask, but is there any chance you could post up a tutorial? I've stopped piano, however i would really like to learn this song... i also have the sheet music :P

  • 3:08-3:11 OMG:)

  • Very lovely... :D

  • @Lypur >_< im about a good 9 months in piano now any ideas on what songs i should be doing? (: i just completed this thanks to your help

  • This piano had a very bright sound, which I found uncomfortable. However, that isn't her fault. She plays it beautifully. Thank you for sharing your talent.

  • @sfrq200388 LOL...I'm a guy. Thanks... hahahaha ^_^

  • @Lypur haha I think it may be because your fingers look a little girly :D good playing!!!

  • @Lypur Wow~what you used to recorded the video and what mic?

  • @Lypur They must have mistaken your watch for a bracelet.

  • @erdavis7 No it's a watch. ^_^
