I hate it when the animations of meteorite impacts are completely unrealistic. The shock waves move much too fast and so does the debris. Many times they will also show the impactor glowing when its still well outside of the atmosphere.
I dont but i do know that the speed of the asteroid and especially the debris is just ridiculous. If its for a documentary i just dont see how it can be so difficult to get the physics right. A documentary is for education.
Because if they were to show the asteroid hitting the earth at 60 times the speed of a bullet. There wouldn't be much to look at, save maybe a flash of light and impact ejecta.
Not exactly because a bullet travels i think less then a km a sec so a 10 km wide object seen from space wouldnt just be a flash but it would be several seconds in the atmosphere before touching down. It would just move around 2 times its own length a second.

The video is a little off. What we call modern day birds, already existed at the time of the Cretaceous. They were the only "dinosaurs" to have survived the impact event, but they were already what we consider to be birds. More species evolved afterwards of course.

The tsunami would equal or exceed the depth of the water at the point of impact. It would probably be able ot overtop a lot of mountain chains, probably not the highest ones. The meteor did hit in water that was at least a thousand feet deep, and it was debris carried with this onto the main land that led scientists to understand that it had impacted in chicxulub.

@halo3lite Yes.it wouldnt have mattered where it would have hit,the meteor hitting the atmosphere would have instantly burned anything below it,also,it would have just gone straight to the bottom of the ocean,im sure.

Interesting idea about gravitationally 'nudging' an asteroid off course from certain impact with earth - only problem is that there is still the matter of creating a new trajectory with not only earth but other asteroids, increasing the likelihood of collision courses with more big rocks, for us earthlings to worry about.........hmmmmmmmmmmm.

The video is a little off. What we call modern day birds, already existed at the time of the Cretaceous. They were the only "dinosaurs" to have survived the impact event, but they were already what we consider to be birds. More species evolved afterwards of course.

If their was an extinction that massive and that quick you would find billions of dinosaur bodies on the same layer of earth. But you dont. I think the dinosaurs evolved into birds. This theory is possible but it is very unlikly in my oppinion.

Proof there is no god, order, and no justice. True but there are libraries of hard facts and well, millions of fossils that say, yes this is what happened. There is a buried crater several hundred kilometers wide whose isotopic iridium ashes can be SEEN at precisly the same layer in every known rock strata from this time period, this DID happen, there is no theory, there is hard evidence. There is not one, single shred of proof for any god or order inherent in nature, just highly reactive star dust and BILLIONS of years of interaction

I feel that is a very accurate animation. The ejecta impacts from the dino-killer are very large.
I should have some vids of ejecta impacts up later this week. Look to North East Oregon for the impact site. I feel the Chicxulub impact to be ejecta from the Wallowa impact.

The little tug that the man made craft would bring is way way out of our time scale. all we have at the moment is nukes and thats still how i would like to see and no are chances where with, i thought the pull from a nearby object may do it but it will not unless we get around 2,000 years notice. as of yet we are not that advance so we only have bruit force.
