respect to the gymnasts performing these skills in the 70's! the equipment was not up to par with what they have today so its even more clever........
also a lot of the '70s footage are of nadia comaneci and she was the best of the best back then. not many other '70s gymnasts were performing the same skills as her
@LMA629 I wonder if you might be confusing Comaneci with other Romanians in many of these clips, particularly Eberle, who was quite the trickster, and even some Soviets who wore very similar leotards to what Comaneci often wore.
@LMA629 - not many were you are correct, however some were starting to out do Nadia in terms of difficulty by the end of the decade......the soviets were always more artistic than Nadia on floor (but blame the choreographers there from Romania, all theyre girls had hideous routines including Nadia)
although gymnasts today perform some of the same skills they were doing back then, those skills are now among the easier ones today. there are so many skills performed commonly today that nobody was doing back then

Then why is the title "70 Vs now" that means the 70's versus now, if the point of the montage is that they're just doing the same skills then they're not versing each other...
The "point" of this montage is to show that although people often say that gymnastics in the 70s was simple, todays top gymnasts are still doing the same skills and combinations now. I could have called it "gymnasts now doing the same skills as gymnasts in the 70s gymnastics montage" but I decided not to. And generally my montages aren't trying to prove a point anyway.
@MostepanovaFan Indeed: I've always thought of the 1970's as the major turning point in women's gymnastics -- in terms of difficulty. There's no doubt that the sport in the 1960's and prior was a complete joke -- with gymnasts performing moves that those today could (almost literally) do in their sleep.
I love the music choice, breezy with a touch of melancholy. Sometimes the darker songs show the difficulty of the sport in a more emotionally satifsying way. It's not all smiles and andrenaline.
Moste, the picture quality of the 70's gymnasts is amazingly good! How do you do it? I don't think vhs even existed back then. Thanks again for another terrific montage.
Superb montage - VERY clever and must have taken lots of research! One of the best gymnastics videos on Youtube - and I've watched A LOT!!!

We should respect them all, cause gymnastics is harder than shit. But I prefer the seventies to today. I prefer 1988-2000 overall.

What's the point of this montage? It's not proving anything it's just people back then doing the same skills as people nowadays...

@MostepanovaFan It kinda sucks that back then, this stuff was considered very dangerous and now these skills are simple. some done in level 9... :)
gymlovr828 8 months ago
@MostepanovaFan Those 70s moves are now being done by juniors (even novices and lower level gymnasts).
