  • No no no, THAT'S not how to do it!! Here, let me show you.

  • Why is everyone asking him to throw the ball, didn't you see that split shot in the beginning he threw? ....and thats how it's done.

  • ime 10 and my high game is a 160!!!!!

  • Weird, I spin the ball with my 2 fingers in the middle partially in, but no thumb. Is it more accurate or "proper" to use all 3 always?

  • @crazyspooks10 Yes. In general accuracy increases by using all 3 fingers.

  • Thank, at the moment I'm "eating" all of tutorials online, coz my game sux big time!

  • @UnpaBGD Ive recently just started learning to hook the ball whats your average currently?

  • @MrTrophyNuts Played 4 times already. Last time I launched the ball up in the air, damn man that will be playin on tube as soon as security cameras find my noob shoot! Lucky I've missed the LCD above the lane

  • I have one question... where do u aim in bowling? At the pins or the arrows?

  • @dashermanator1103 I've always been an arrow kinda guy alot people i know that have teaching backrounds they would most likly say look for the arrowrs n find your sweet spot, but to me its prefrecne really as long as you comfortable and you feel good about it then thats the way to do it!!.

  • @dashermanator1103

every person I know says don't look at the pins, but look at the arrows or dots.

  • my best is 185

  • i used to represent my country at age 13 and was average at 300 but was left out after that cause i don't throw a hook ball.

  • i'm 13 and my best is 200 and i'm not joking.

  • im 2 and bowled 301

  • @Tradiesel2000 How can you get a 301? I thought the best you could get was 300.

  • @cooky5479 handicap

  • my best was 328.

  • my score is 198

  • mybest is 160 and im 12

  • my is 279

  • My best score is 119.

  • I just used a resin ball and its a joke, I got 7 seven strikes in a row and increased my average gaming about 50 . I like trying to hook plastic balls just for the fun of it, using a reactive ball takes away all the fun IMO. Anyway, I use the tips in the video to hook, I have seen many people doing other stuff like using the fingers in the last moment of the release, but IMO the tips being shown here cover most of what you need to start hooking that sucker.

  • When I bowl I am lucky to get over 100. It is embarrassing. My best is 180.

  • my best game is a 231

  • my best score is 201

  • @meleeking6 Same! :D

  • my best score 144

  • I thought this was "How to THROW a hook.." not "How to grip a bowling ball..."

  • @xxdemonshitxx

The key to throwing a hook is how you hold the ball.

  • and if you want even more hook than that go to your local costume store and buy yourself a pirate costume . . . . . hook sold separately

  • I'm lost. So all I need to do is buy a reactive resin ball? What about release?

  • So wait... how is the hook thrown again? Musta missed that part.

  • Comment removed

  • so the hawk shot is,? just hold the ball and talk?

  • @stupidYOOTUBE thats ehat i was thinking.

  • most fingertip house balls I've seen don't even a a thumb hole big enough to fit in :(

  • i found the best way to hook a ball was to only put two fingers in the ball and leave the thumb out so i can get a better feeling wrist action... or no fingers in it at all, but i think i get more hook with the two fingers in... i don't bowl competitively though so most people will probably say it's cheating or whatever, but i don't care, what ever works for you, right?

  • @cantworkitout U should always have your fingers in the ball and if u only put ur two fore fingers in the ball use ur second hand to help guide... ur method really is only needed with house and spare balls. ps if u want the most hook just get ur own ball with finger tips but be careful look up the ball u want to buy just because it has reactive resin dosent mean it will hook a lot and some pro shops lie. o and make shure u have a good driller

  • @Trickster435 fair enough, i'll try and keep that in mind, i'm not serious about bowling, i only do it maybe once or twice a year with a group of friends, but if i ever decide to buy my own ball, i'll definitely keep that info in mind =)

  • Any if you want even more hook than THAT, you take this golf ball....

  • i watched this like 5 times because it makes me laugh haha

  • Im new to bowling and have no room to talk, but even I own my own ball and know this guy is wrong.

  • how you hold it means jack you can throw a finger tip straight. the key is in the release of the ball.

  • roll the ball, answer the phone.

  • not a good one for me.. should be better explanation with a throw... dislike...

  • Okay so you showed us how to hold the ball ?? the tittle of this video is how to trow a hook "DISLIKE"

  • Why should I listen to this joker when he doesn't know the difference between a solid and particle cover ball ?? This is his business and he knows less than the customer.

  • This video is awful... anyone can throw a hook even with a "no finger" grip.

revolutions come from cocking and uncocking your wrist quickly... you create a flat spot during the release portion of your swing, and the later the timing (the faster you create the flat spot) the more revolutions you impart on the ball. the rotation angle come from tilting your wrist side to side.

  • in loving memory of Kenny Shoulars, his finger tips can still be found in one of the balls.

  • @BLACKSYNTH he died?

  • how to throw a hook in bowling ... these days ... just go buy a ball, put all the pros on the "US Open Pattern" ... wait ... put all the houses on the US Open Pattern and you'll see the number of 300's bowled drop by 95% or more ... a 700 series will be a season high again and not an average ....

  • ball will immediately drop onto lane after doing this and hook perfectly

  • Thanks it works well

  • He had a house ball when he talk about throwing a hook the first time, the only real way your gonna get a hook off a house ball is if you leave your thumb out of the hole other wise you might hurt your wrist. Oh well happy bowling.

  • @littletwister

Actually, if you try doing that then you're asking for your middle and ring finger to be broken

  • @littletwister Nonsense, I use a house ball and throw a hook with no strain on my wrist whatsoever.

  • He had a house ball when he talk about throwing a hook the first time, the only real way your gonna get a hook off a house ball is if you leave your thumb out of the hole. oh well happy bowling.

  • might as well put the gutters up while your at it.....

  • AND IF YOU WANT EVEN MORE HOOK THAN THAT, USE A BUFFER TO SHOOT THE BALL SIDEWAYS DOWN THE LANE!!!

  • i feel sorry for the ppl that try to learn from him :-( god help them

  • he said 20 times "Ball"

  • a true american

  • haha hold to ur second nuckle for a hook

for a better hook hold it to ur first nuckle

and for a better hook .........don't hold it with any nuckle just thumb LOL

  • Ok... that's how you hold a ball when you're gonna do a hook, but how do you realize it, and where do you aim etc o.o

  • @ltsjack There are a few ways to release the ball. The first way is to just let it slide off your fingers. If your holding it like you should the ball will do the work for you. The next way is to rotate your hand as you release the ball. Your hand should be in the face up position you start at, and when you release the ball you rotate hand 90 degree. The third (Not recommend) is to flick the ball off your fingers on release. This gives you lots of power and less control. you have to feel aiming

  • @ltsjack Now aiming is something you have to get a feel for. Now depending on your ball and how you throw is will determine where to aim. This requires you to experiment and practice and get a feel for what your bowling ball will do when thrown a certain way.

  • thanks for the tip my man

  • So there was no throwing involved at all then?

  • @zcapcc6 thats right u do that and use mind powers to get a strike

  • @zcapcc6 lol thats hilarious

  • No...sorry, but that's not how you generate a hook. All we saw there was a selection of different types of ball. What about the approach, release, and wrist/arm action? Where are there any decent bowling instruction videos?

  • thanks for nothing

  • Im straight bowler looking to get a hook in. I been bowling for awhile and I have been in a league 2 years and both years have been on the winning team. This really doesn't help me much. Oh ego boost... best game is a 231.

  • 0:10 PBA

  • cup the ball on long oil and you will have a bad day

  • this is mroe like "how to hold your bowling ball" more than "how to throw hooks"

  • I recently learned how to curve the ball however I am only using my 2 fingers and no thumb. Is this "incorrect"?

  • @BlueBarrier782 Yes.. Unless you are absolutely comfortable with the two finger hook and cannot whatsoever hook with the thumb. It took me maybe ten games to get the hook down with the thumb, and I had to sort of crank it to get it the first couple of times.

  • I have bowled for years, and never used a hook. I use the arrows on the lane. Since I'm right handed, I throw the bowl with great power and in a straight line.....I hit the lane with the very center of the ball directly in the center of the 3rd arrow from the right and the center arrow...the balls center hits right of the kingpin and I most often get a strike. I have a pretty high average. Be careful never to hit the kingpin dead center (you'll get an impossible split if you do)

  • i bowl with two hands and no matter where i stand the ball will always hook and hit the 7 pin...always missing the pocket...any ideas? thx

  • @bychineva either you need more speed, or need to stop cranking your wrist so much to generate less hook. If you are already throwing slow and not cranking a rediculous amount, more left and aim further right. hope that helps.

  • @bychineva use a less agressive ball

  • @MerkabaStar-You can throw straight ball coming from a side angle from board 2, 3,4 or 5 without a spin or rotation on the ball and it will not carry the pins as good. Why do you think some Pro Bowlers are crankers or tweener, to put a lot of power and rotation on the ball for a better carry.

  • ok, so how do you throw them?

  • im 14 . my highest frame is 189 . lol

  • @dauzkhan im 13 my highest frame is 201. :] i have a small video on my channel of me bowling

  • i always thought you couldnt hook a house ball... i thought it was because the weight inside the ball will make it hook... guess im wrong

  • The reason for the hooking ball is because of the spin you put on a Ball to create a powerful impact that scatter the pins when it hit, straight ball do not have as much power to knock all the pins down specially when the bowling center uses heavier pins.

  • @flshstar1 Its about creating an angle coming from the side which creates a better pin action, not power.

  • My high score is 187 after about 4 years of bowling. I got that when I learned to hook. The best bowler in the world used a hook. Don't listen to the comments that say to throw it straight.

  • @XRvd15X

I agree 100%. Look at "almost" every pro, they throw a hook, reason being, way more pin action.

  • I'm 13 and my average is 118. I'm the best on my team but actually, I kind of suck. Last year I was the best improved bowler in my division. I now can hook the ball, but not so much. I'll try this.

  • throw it ..

  • I'm 93 and my high game is 12

  • The lane condtions play key roles in how hard some people hook the ball. Some patterns will not allow big hooks with low revs, while others do. Big hooks are nice on house shots with light outsides and oil in the middle, but hooking on a tough pattern (unless you have high revs) will send your ball in to the gutter.

  • @glorifiedtruth some of what you say is true, i have seen alot of pros throw straight, and alot of pros to pure idiots throw hooks. only thing is physics wise, yes im a major in school, the hook will create a greater variable of displacment among the pins, whic throwing straight, has a high degree of inward displacment, meaning that if your a rocket down the lane, your likely to pull the pins inwards with the ball. (probability wise)

  • He is wrong. The key to bowling is to choose the heaviest ball available and to roll it as fast as you can. A hook is a sign of an insecure and ineffective bowler. All the top level pros are straight-ballers.

  • im 15 and my avg is 120 LOL

  • I'm 13, and my average is 110 XD I am getting better and better though, just a lot of confusion between me and my approach ha ha.

  • hey guys i got a new ball and its 13 pounds and its like kinda hevey so it messes me up does anybody know a way to get use to holding it so it seems lighter or what i should do to make it feel lighter and i can control it

  • i believe a wide spam will allow you to carry the ball much easier..

  • my high is 184 and i got that after only 3 or 4 yrs of bowling and with no hook

  • Is it easier to hook a ball with a lighter or with a heavier ball?

  • im 14 and my high game is 220. i live in australia

  • im 15 and my high game is 215

  • i don't know how, but while bowling straight i managed 145 for a game i was like wow 0.o

  • tats pretty cool, i gota tornado i think its call with finger incerts and im getting almost 120 a game.

  • CORBIN BOWL FTW

  • im 13 and bowled a 200 yesterday

  • age dont matter but still good

  • im only 12 and i average 98 O.o

  • we about have the same average i'm twelve and I average 101

  • lmao.

  • He realy only descibes the diffrent types of balls and how they effect a hook, not how to throw a hook or how to release it.

  • agreed. this vid is not too helpful.

  • Funny guy!

  • Woah! I live in Wilmington, NC.

  • o and then there are people that crank and I know that it isn't illegal in any competitions at all....Take it from someone that HAS bowled in a pba tourny or two.

  • what does crank mean

  • @datboiy20

"Cranking" means that you would use more wrist action than using your fingers. And this motion requires a lot of power because the more wrist you add to the release, the more the ball will hook. Most crankers use little to no slide on their last step before they throw the ball.

  • Think you, it helped me littlel bit at my bowling game.

  • the easiest way to hook a ball is to put all 3 fingers in the ball, roll it onto your wrist and snap your wrist like your shaking someones hand

  • another way is to tuck the puinky u will get a blister but it will calist and get hard the ball will hit ur pinky and start rolling but u have to hold ur hand sideways like that guy

  • Yep... as wiesman says, tuck that pinky. Not everyone does it but I find it helps.

  • most people at the ally hate that but it got my average up 50 pins in 1 year

  • A lot of people do that when starting out, but down here cupping is illegal in competitions and such.

  • Cupping your wrist is not illegal in competitions of any sort....that would limit the number of bowlers then considering 99% of them throw hooks by cupping there wrist....

  • Bending the wrist is not illegal. When you said cup it in your wrist i thought you were meaning holding the ball by resting it on your wrist and lower forearm until the ball is released. My apologies.

  • thats illegal? hmm... thats how I've been bowling not in comp, just for fun). But i had no training and just kinda figured out how to hook by doing that. compensating for a heavy ball. is there a video to help correct my form?

  • @nueke2398

Bowling in Any fashion is illegal... if you have no wrists.

  • Not to mention if you don't let that natural cup come into play on your back swing your ball will come out flat and wont hook even 2 boards....

  • video title "How to Throw Hooks in Bowling"

    where's the hook tips then?

    LOL

this should be titled - different kinds of balls and drilling types available? maybe?

  • There's a lot more to throwing a hook than just grip. There is a lot of body mechanics involved. What he is showing here equates to teaching someone how to drive by griping the steering wheel properly.

  • he didnt talk about the delivery, which is the most important !

  • he told you... all you have to do is keep your hand like that all the way through your release and it will hook

  • do you release your thumb first or all fingers together? please help

  • thumb first always.. it might not feel like it does, but your thumb should always come out first

  • @7RyRod release your thumb first it gives the ball a rolling motion and makes it alot harder to put back spin on it when you are first learning

  • @7RyRod Thumb first, in my experience.

  • The Powerball will help you greatly in bowling. View my channel to take your game to the next level.

  • I have that blue Maxim ball he holds!

  • i know this guy and he knows what he is talking about about. thanks kenny

  • nobody explain it this easy...thanks so much

  • Comment removed

  • the key is where your hand is turned at release.

if your thumb is toward the pins it hooks

if your palm is pointing at the pins, the hook is reduced

  • that was horrible, using down to the first knuckle with a house ball will make you drop it.

  • key componet dude, not the ball or fingertip or even how u release the ball. they key is to get under the ball and lift up, u can make anything hook well by doing this. i would know, i was starting to not get so far under the ball and my rev rate went down and i was getting made. so i started getting under the ball and i shot a 300 game

  • tnx!!!

  • So wrong! First of all no one says throw hooks number two you don't hold your hand on the side of the ball, yeah it'll hook but it gives a weak roll which leads to bad pin carry, follow the pros, use the inside part of the ball, that is how you creat truly great roll, reaction and pin carry. This video is very true for a thb, ie a bowler of limited talent. Also, the most important thing to get a ball to hook or really have good roll, pop your thumb out and lift throught it with your finger tips

  • @Dpyankeesfan17 Actually they don't really "hook". It's just an illusion, but your close. :)

  • sweet! hd quality

  • great video thanks
