Mine's 3 yrs old and has never been cleaned, and just a month or so ago started (sometimes) not recognizing that there was even a disc in the tray and now it's all the time. A repair tech said the lens was dirty or a new laser assembly was needed, so if u try this and it doesn't fix the problem, then u have a different problem. Don't take it out on the uploader. I'm trying this tomorrow and if it works, this man saved me $70. Either way, thx for the vid, I was gonna use rubbing alcohol.

can someone help me? i bought an xbox slim 4gb last summer. approx. 7 months ago. i only have 4 games, halo 3,halo 2, mafia 2 and gta 4. halo 2 and halo 3 seem to play fine, but mafia 2 and gta 4 have noticable lag and slowdowns, even without a lot of action on the screen and i know they are supposed to be very smooth and even in framerate. i have no idea why both are like this. if it helps, i did ruin halo 3 when my xbox scratched the disc when i accidently tipped it while playing. i need help!

Great job with the demonstration! My xbox has been having this 'open and close the tray a million times to get it to read the game' problem for more than a few months now, and after an hour or so of taking my box apart and wiping the lens, it read one of my games on first closing! For those with a similar problem described this is definitely worth a shot.

THANK YOU!!!!! and i now mate Microsoft with a passion and understand why they're helpline and support is so crap, so you have to pay ridiculous amounts to send it off and get it fixed!

To fix you can reflow them or apply better paste but i was looking into better heats sinks so this doesnt happen but it looks a bit tricky. One guy even water cooled his xbox lol

@masterdidums1 If you wanna know what i did when mine was overheating is, i left it all opened up after i had the problem of trying to get my discs to read and stuff, and i have my xbox on my window ledge with my window opened onto the first latch, and for the past year and more it has not once crashed/ overheated and i have never encountered one single problem with it. :) Sorry for slow reply btw i have been trying to keep up with all the messages and inbox messages i receive daily/ hourly lol

@playthehoundz Mate :) If you're having problems with your screen which is like a rainbow and messed up on games the only solution that i can see is that your Xbox Graphics chip is fried (Fucked) or your TV is fucked :\ try sorting out your hue & saturation on your TV settings menu. That may fix your dodgey colour's :) this video is only based around making un-readable discs readable again this tutorial wouldn't solve whatever you're trying to fix. Good luck anyways :)
