You didn't do much research before buying! It's not only the 3D housing that will be out of focus when underwater... The standard housing has the same problem! You should go purchase the Eye of Mine Flat Lens Housing which will fix this problem underwater! Eye of Mine has both the standard and 3D Flat Lens housing you want! I hope this helped!
Science isn't GoPro's fault, dude! You need to spend a few more dollars and get the flat lens replacement. The GoPro is AWESOME for diving, it just cannot focus on objects with a wide-angle lens while underwater. Get the flat lens replacement and all your troubles will be gone.
@libertariandeist Hm, last time I checked optics are covered in physics around 9th grade here in the USA, 7th in Czech Republic. Also, companies that sell electronics have (or supposed to have) what is called multistage QC (quality check). If there is one it has to be staffed by someone with their eyes permanently out of focus not to notice the "slightly-my-ass" out of focus footage.
@CrazyCzech - GoPro never intended for the camera to be a diving camera. It was initially developed for surfing. It's morphed into an all-sports camera, and divers (like you and me) bought it because of the 180' rating. They are well aware of the focus problem and are currently developing actual cases, as opposed to lens replacements which are band-aids. You and I both just happened to buy our gopros before they finished development.
@libertariandeist - You can't blame them for wanting to take the time to do it right. They never marketed it to the dive community nor have they yet. The dive community kinda took it and ran with it - creating the demand for the diving applications. That's why you will see a dive housing and various other mounts, etc within the year. Blaming their QC is pointless, considering that they weren't selling it as a diving camera. If you did your research you would have found the problem and solution
@libertariandeist - both existed before you ever bought your camera. It's a bad ass piece of equipment, and is still worth well over the $250 price for a camera that can handle 1080p at depths that you'll probably never see in your lifetime. Spending the money for the flat lens STILL keeps it well under half what most underwater housings alone cost.
@libertariandeist Furthermore, the product has been out for over a year and as of yesterday when I got a reply from GoPro they "are working on a flat lens."
Lastly, I have modified the case with a custom flat lens and I'm going to test tomorrow.
