lucky him, had he done this after 1971 he would never have come out, he was one of only 31 remaining inmates still eligible for parole for doing his crime when life in louisiana meant with parole but more ironic that almost anyone else sentenced at the same time were out in 10 years and 6 months. i don't know why the usa makes such stiff penalties in the way they do considering they are wasting resources to keep inmates in prison who are no longer a threat.
