I used more wormcastings ALOT this year with each transplant, with seedlings and in my compost tea and it sure made a big difference in my veggie garden!
I don't have a worm bin, I purchase the castings at the moment.
Thanks ! Getting to see how the worm bin, the trays work, how the worms migrate from one tray to the other, having a good explanation of it all is a big Help ! Much appreciated and best wishes to you !
Wow... I raise my hat to ya for the work you do to make the compost 'crumbly'. Never thought of doing that to the compost we get from our little bin, but will try that. I can see how it would make it easier to spread the compost over a garden bed! :)
very help full vid...I am conducting experiments with the worm doo...trying to find out just how much to add to my seed starting soil to give the seed that extra punch...any ideas? 50% is too much
my worms keep crawling out. They have food, its not to hot or cold, its not 2 wet or dry, they have 2 totally fresh beds with shredding brown paper, manure, oak leafs, and coffee grounds. What is wrong with my worms?
Like2, it may be too acidic. Add a couple of overripe bananas, they can't resist. They love melon rind too. I always have about 1% of my worms that I consider loners, they move to the empty top box and hang out by themselves. I don't know why they do it, but it doesn't bother me anymore. Just go with the flow and eventually you will know what to expect.
I made a new bed 50% peat 50% manure. I finely crushed egg shells so hopefully they will help control the ph. I have water melon rind in there now, they do love it. I also hear coffee grounds. Thanks for your reply!!!
George, for me yeah, for most people no. I'd rather be brewing beer but worms don't require as much attention to detail. Is it summer in Kansas yet? My potatoes in a trashcan went south, haha. I never report on my failures though. Oh well.
Brewing beer is easier than all of the work you put into worm farming.
Yes it's summer here. It hasn't gotten as hot here as it has there yet but it's going to be in the upper 90's this week. Wheat harvest should start any day.
Thank you for showing how worm compost is supposed to look. I am starting my bin this week.

NEVER report failures!! lol

why not report failures? someone might be able to give you hints as to why it failed. or others can learn from your mistakes.
