No, however, they had an option for a 3 seats, as seen in one of the Avtech WX3's. Vector Aeromotive guaranteed that each car would hit a top speed, and that each car would produce at least 625 HP. When running 110 Octane, the driver could safely turn up the boost to 12 PSI, and produce 1200 HP. Every car has a manually adjustable boost controller in the cabin.
It's a shame that Vector isn't in business imagine the supercars today if they were still up and running. Their designs were lightyears ahead of their time.
Jurgen stole from me. He was supposed to send me scans from his collection in exchange for me scanning my entire collection of Vector literature and sending it to him in Germany on DVD. It cost me out of pocket to do this. I delivered. He kept me on the hook for YEARS, with one excuse after another and never came through. He's a selfish liar and a thief. Be careful Vector fans. You've been warned.
Nice video. I like the fact that you get to see some of the smaller details that nobody ever bothers showing. Especially the display and cockpit layout.
One of my favorite cars, if not my absolute favorite!! IMO it was megatech's fault that ruined the company. Gerry perhaps had big dreams with little budget &( or no management skills?) nothing beats the assembly & materials quality...& the comment about ne heritage...neither did Lamborghini...so what? Vectors heritage lies within the aerospace industry!!
There is a Silver W8 in an Episode of World of Collector Cars (WKET) PBS From like 1992-ish boasting that this was the fastest off the line supercar on the market At that time. Also having the most advanced electronics. These were neat cars. only like 17 W8's I think?? I'd love a schematic of the Computerized instrumentation! :)
This is my single favorite car in the world. Not just the W8TT, THIS serial number. Always has been. Perfect color and aero combination, now the perfect history. I simply must own her someday. :)
@nthfinity Probably. I've talked to a few people about Kurt's car before. Alex, Joergen, etc. I've never seen one of these in person yet, but they've always been one of my favorites. :) I'm going to try to send you a message w/my info so we can talk. ~M
That comment was interesting about the insurance companies not wanting anything to do with it unless it was advertised as 200 mph. You never know what the real figures are.
@nthfinity Someone was saying that on the Auto Zone thread. I will definitely be there to check that out. My name on Ferrarichat is AxerJk, if you see me on there. Thanks!
a question, at the 3:38, that song is that please ?????. resembles testament. by the way, I like this video, the best vehicle ever designed, in a given time was the fastest street car in the world.
I was headed to Maine, to my lake house, when I saw an 18 year old, sittin in a red Vector W8 on the highway, doors up, with his girlfriend. I loved the car, and payed no attention to the people
@vectorfiles it was i think 2007 on 495 north in lowell mass. I couldnt catch a photo because he was stopped and i was moving.. i almost pulled over but never got to it :(
hmm, well thats cool, thanks for correcting me since i was wrong but it does look just like a gm tpi and sounds alot like one too. so thanks for informing me of somethin i didnt know cuz its nice to learn new stuff
All in good fun. I would be a fool to say I'm a "know it all" :)It's also not a horribly wrong assumption to make; as the TPI intake system looks very similar to the First setup; with the key difference being the intake diameter, and plenum... then the heads, and block being of racing origin. (Roddeck produce blocks for racing primarily). A good comparison is to compare a 4.6 Terminator 32 valve Ford engine to the 4.7 DOHC Ford Racing block in the Koenigsegg.
just incase noone knows this but the motor in that car is a tuned port injection (tpi 350ci) motor out of a corvette which gm put in the corvettes between 85-92 and also the camaros and trans ams between 85-92
Actually 318z28; that isn't a GM TPI motor. It is a Roddeck Y block 366 CI; and the intake runners were created by a company called "First" and are 2" in diameter each; completely different than those used by GM (who broke patent by making them).
For anyone to make a bad comment about a Vector is absolutely retarded. These cars are part of history and some of the rarest cars in the world. Absolutely stunning vehicles.
Yeah, it is rare and a part of history, but Weigert was a class-A charlatan and doomed his company to failure. At this point his drama probably adds interest to the car (like Delorean and his whole situation did with the DMC), but honestly, this thing needed about four more development cycles to have reached its full potential. Not that I wouldn't want one... just saying its a shame.
cool yes, rare yes, well built? absolutely not, the build quality is terrible. Its not a car you would trust to take on a cross country trip thats for sure, just a little fun up and down the street, thats all.
Don't get it...ugly car...no pedigree...it looks like a kit car...nope, can't get my arms around it...rode in one before, FAST...but I have also driven a 600+ hp Viper and felt damn sexy doing it. The vector made me feel like I should have driven to a comic book convention and discussed the relevance of the Kligon language...basically I did not feel sexy....nerdy...but not sexy.
Looks like a kit car? What part? Maybe you are mistaking it for the M12. Other supercars exist that aren't nearly as well put together . (uneven panel gaps on a brand new Enzo for example)...
i meant it is a joke, that it has crappy aerodynamics, a crappy old chevy engine, and crappy electronics, this car is just an europian super car wannabee.
The aerodynamics are actually very good for a car of the early 1990's with a Cd. of .32. The engine is based on a Roddeck Y Block, not a Chevy engine at all. The electronics are built to aircraft standard (along with the whole manufacturing process) which have smaller tolerances than road cars are allowed to have.
This car made no attempt at being European; but doing a Supercar the American way.
IT looks like it will fly but it blew steam off the radiator on testing I remember reading it though. I still love this car. One must have in garage. nothing comes close exotic along with Countach.!
At the time, there were no manual gear boxes available that could take the 650+ ft. lbs of torque reliably. To date, no transmission has failed on any of the Vectors that have been properly maintained. It's a custom engineered set of helical gears, where the only "off the shelf" piece is the housing off a GM 3 speed. Internally its entirely unique with "manual shift" abilities.
Each car was certified at 242 mph prior to each delivery. They run out of gear; and it is not an aerodynamic limit for the power.
The Insurance companies in the US at the time were not used to a car going 200 mph, let alone 240 mph; and would not insure the car until after Vector advertised "200+ mph." It's much faster than an R8, or any stock Lamborghini in existence. This car's punch from 0-160 mph is incredible!
first you write down your testament, then you gotta ask for permission to take off from mission control and finally you kiss your ass goodbye. that's how it works.
The exterior kind of looks like the Lamborghini Countach. The aerodynamics of this car is just amazing. Weigert was able to get the aerodynamic drag down very low near 30%.

Sure they do. What about the Saleen S7, Ford GT, and the new Shelby SSC which recently broke the record for the fastest production car. I have to admit though, I would rather have the Vector. I have been trying to buy one for years but can't find one.
Naw man the Saleen S7 will never hold a candel stick to the Vector and the Ford GT is just a Ford GT.
The SSC Aero isn't much in my opinion because its like out there, this on the other hand still captures my attention to this day dispite the passing years.
Did Gerald Wiegert originally intend for the Vector to have a central wheel and seat like the McLaren F1?
And the two dislikes: i only have this to ask you: did YOUR car dealer give you over 600 HP as standard? Did they offer a 1,000 HP upgrade?
