However, Christ puts things into perspective with turning the other cheek attitude. If you look at it, the Old Testament "An eye for an eye" and Christ's "Do to others what you want other to do to you" is basically the same command in order for people to stop hurting other people and love them instead (even their persecutors).

He just rewards righteous (and since we are all sinners, we can only be considered righteous because of Jesus' gift of sacrifice), and punishes wicked. But everyone has a lot and lot of choices and opportunities before one ends up there, cause God is slow on anger and patient.

I've never run into a Christian who can give a good answer for this. Christianity cannot explain evil, even though it talks about it all the time. He just rewards righteous (and since we are all sinners, we can only be considered righteous because of Jesus' gift of sacrifice), and punishes wicked. But everyone has a lot and lot of choices and opportunities before one ends up there, cause God is slow on anger and patient.

I've never run into a Christian who can give a good answer for this. Christianity cannot explain evil, even though it talks about it all the time. One of the strengths of evolution and science is that they offer a very clear and compelling reason for evil.

You can't pick and choose parts of the bible you are comfortable with. If you believe that the bible is the word of god, you can't just ignore what he says and come up with your own apologetic conclusions. It says what it says - those who do not follow face eternity in hell. Who are you to decide if the rules no longer apply? There's not a damn thing about this that's Christian. That's like saying Al-queda terrorists represent Islam -- or the people killing the African albinos to use their body parts for potions represent Wicca. Quit using this tragedy to promote your own bias and hate! And don't cop out and blanket-blame religion. That's an excuse for not thinking. Science alone has been used to justify innumerable atrocities. Concepts don't torture and kill people, people do.

Read it, thanks. Exodus is an interesting book, with a great number of conduct and sanitation rules directed specifically toward a newly-freed slave populace. A single old testament verse taken out of the context of the entire chapter is a pretty weak straw man ploy.

Excuse me, but what context? It's a verse that clearly states that you should kill witches, that's it! How can that be taken out of context? Now, if you are referring to the fact that these people decide who is the witch and who isn't, let me ask you this: Why is that different from pastors and priests back home who decide who has sinned and who hasn't? Even today our priests are condemning and physically hurting lots of people who don't agree with them!

Context - As in: the verses that come before and after which contribute to its full meaning; the conditions and circumstances relevant to it; who it is directed towards, when, and for what purpose.
While the Ten Commandments are considered laws transcending time and culture, the commands in then Book of the Covenant are specific for the Israelites who received them. To take these Israel-specific commands and argue that they apply directly to those in modern culture is missapplication.
