  • @XSVmetalband

    Palm Bay Guitars

  • Ziras does the length of the strings on the neck affect the playing speed? If this is true what I can do?

  • @XneoclassicaloverX

    this is not true...

  • dude you give awesome lessons, hey ive always heard people say that you need thick strings to have a heavy tone but i think i saw a reply that tells someone you use 9-42 how is it that you have such great tone .is the whole thick string thing a myth i guess.

  • @RiffKiller21

    it is a combination thing

    Strings, pick ups, effects, amp

  • @tziras I see, yeah i dont want to be like alot of these guys that have tendonitis or has a horrible tone and im sick of playing with 11's cus my hand is always sore.I noticed that you use line 6 but what brand of strings do you use, pickups mostly used, amp type/ , drum program do you use .im in the middle of getting some good gear finally . If you dont mind i would appreciate it. Im not sure if ill ever be able to catch you as far as skill is concerned but it would be nice to have good tone

  • @RiffKiller21

forget the gear...practicing is the key...

anyway..for the rest check the gear section of my website

  • You look like that that guy in the pick of destiny

  • I gave this lick a try and once i got past the 100 BPM, I gave up, but still thanks for showing how to play it. It really is a very good lick to practice.

  • sweet guitar Teo! any advice to be faster with my downstrokes?

  • @Noksvalo

do it slow and perfectly executed...

then it is a matter of time to speed it up

  • @Noksvalo

downstrokes is the matter of the bones in your palm. It can not be practiced. you can pracitice alternate picking but speed of downstrokes has to do with limitations related to how your bones are constructed. Just my two cents.

  • @rafapak thank u, im pretty fast alternate but when it comes to downstrokes i can get some speed but not as i wish too. Thax for the reply dude

  • o tsak noris borei na to paiksei sta 999 bpm

  • You seem like you are someones badass uncle. I wish you were my badass uncle!

  • @NeverThrust

do the minimum of the movement by playing with your wrist...

  • @NeverThrust alternate picking dude.

  • You say to just practice, to be able to play that fast while being so clean in doing it. Any advice to what you should be thinking during the practicing?

  • @jobacht

there no special advices...just do it every day

  • @jobacht try thinking of "economizing" your alternate picking technique, basically just creating a fluid transition from the notes you play on each string, that way when you are playing it fast you are less likely to be making more excess string noise etc.

  • @jobacht Think before you play, be aware of each movement before and while you are doing it. Tha's why is a good idea to have a good teacher at the beginning, becasue he can point out you mistakes, specially the ones you make unconciously. Hope that helps.

  • @NeverThrust

    just practicing...

  • @NeverThrust

    yes you can...

  • You are such a good teacher Man, exactly the right pace of infomation.

  • thats not a lick thats "betcha cant play this" xD

  • bam i kithara!

  • sweet feel

  • thanks for the lesson, i can play it with 60 bpm, but 70-80 is my limit, i cant do it with 90 bpm, simply because i cant play 16th notes at more than 130 bpm. do you have any advice for me to learn to pick faster?

  • @lebrida1234321

there are no secrets....do it slow and increase the metronome only

    when you feel comfortable

    It will take some time...

  • can you slow it down a thousand times so I can learn it - lol

  • But there are a lot people who cover solo's so I don't think that YT will bother that much.

  • I'm not asking but I would love to hear the "tornado of souls" solo from you.

    watch?v=6jBJUUogVyU.

  • @totaalvoetbalfan

    sorrry..but i dontplay covers...it is a "copyright-youtube" thing...

  • @tziras

    No problem tziras.

It's just one of my favorite solo's

  • @totaalvoetbalfan I love tornado of souls. One of the greatest solos of all time

  • thank you for saying that speed is not musical

  • i really wish i could find a mentor like you here in san francisco

  • That's not phrygian... that's harmonic minor.

  • @braindrillstudios

    this is Phrygian DOMINANT

  • @tziras Oh, sorry about that. I'm not native so I don't know the terms too well. My bad!

  • @braindrillstudios

you dont have to be sorry....this is just some basic theory

  • @braindrillstudios

    same notes..diferent root...different sound

    this is modal harmony

  • what's faster, Theo....sweeping or playing scales?

  • @SantomPh

for me it is the same...

  • man your lessons are really gr8, plzzzzzz try uploading some metal one's...... \m/

  • @MrZombiefilth

check "Lick of the week 18-21" please

  • good job man!!!

  • really appreciate your videos

    thank you very much

  • Pod X3, OOOhhhh yea

  • Nice guitar! I have a Palm Bay Typhoon 3 in pink. Mines in storage though, didnt have time/money to get the jack fixed, and its stayed there ever since. *blush*

  • very nice video was interesting for sure and i don't even play hehe

  • Really cool video! I was wondering how you get a good tone like the one you have in this video

  • @jakethejuke227

    it is Line6 POD X3

  • your not a mortal man because of your insane talent - Awesome!

  • Wen't all Rusty Cooley at the end haha

  • Do you build up your licks on chords sometimes? This lick's fine. The chord has major third and minor seventh. So the possible chord is E7. What about Em7? Power chords aren't major, not minor. But finally they have to resolve in someways. So do you stay in the same key or chord? Or maybe you resolve it like minor 2 5 1 in jazz?

  • @Wyga23

    this ia Phrygian Dominant lick

it can be played over a static major or a static dominant7 chord

  • @Wyga23 power chords are parallel voicings, by definition parallel chords do not require resolution. Also, power chords aren't actually chords since they only contain root and fifth and therefore give no information on their own about what the key is.

  • It's always blow me away,Theo ,how relax your hands are when you play!!

Are you lefthanded in everything?or yust the guitar?

  • @1105195

i am left handed in all of my activities

  • @tziras se oles tis drastiriotites...omg

  • @1105195 playing relaxed is the key to good playing whether it be guitar or any other instrument.

  • DAYMN!!! YER GEWD!!!! XD

  • hey theodore, the links the the metal rythm playing are down :( i would really apreciate if you fixed those links.also thanks for your lessons!they really help!

  • sweet vid thanks dude

  • Dude, this guy is so sick. . .

  • sounds like opus 5 :D thanks dude!

  • You are seriously one of the most underated musicians of all time. Guitarists like you are never this good at teaching either.

  • Theodore my man, I love your videos. I think your accent makes for some really funny (in a good way) moments too as I am always interested in the lessons cause they are fun. I always come away with a smile and a good laugh, but I ALWAYS learn something awsome from you every time. Thanks for the lessons and videos over the years here man!

  • good lesson

  • You're the only shredder I've come across who doesn't annoy me immensely(at all, in fact).

  • Just as easy to think of it as the 5 mode in A minor harmonic or the dominant scale (V) of A Minor harmonic.

  • Don't do it Ziras!

Keep your accent the way it is and please answer these questions for the rest of us.

First, do you think those speeds can be attained on a plain acoustic guitar, say a Martin D-35? And also, what kind of pick do you use? A medium, hard or thin one?

  • @nkmile

for me it is impossible to to play that fast on a Acoustic

personally i am 15% slower on a acoustic guitar

About picks :i play with very hard picks (3mm small stubby)

  • @nkmile You should prepare your guitar, lower the action at saddle and bridge etc. Check John McLaughlin or Al Di Meola. Although Theo is right, I think it is also hard to develop speed on electric guitar without overdrive or distortion etc. I like Theo's lessons, even if music is not my cup of tea. If I were you, Theo, I would add that everything you do is 100% of awareness and your mind follows the music. Otherwise we have just fingers moving on fretboards. But I think Theo knows it very well.

  • great videos!

this is my favorite neoclassical lick yet.

  • one more time...

  • Ever thought of renaming "Lick of the Week" to "Lick of the Geek" since were all guitar geeks here?

  • jesus christ your picking technique is excellent

  • Too much fast shredding putting "snow on your roof" - old timer! ;~} Seriously though, your videos have helped me immensely - thanks Tziras!! OBTW - your forgot to say "never 2 times up or 2 times down" this time - which is my fatal sin, but working on it!

  • @shredder0911

thank you but it is "Ziras" not tziras

  • @tziras

He was using the first letter of your first name: "T" and then added your last name: Ziras. T + Ziras = Tziras. :P

  • HAIL YOU TO MIGHTY METAL LORD!!! MAY THE BLESSINGS OF VALHALLA FALL UPON YOU LIKE THE VENGENCE OF AN ANGRY GOD!!! DEATH TO YOUR ENEMIES!!!

  • Hello Theodore. Could you do some licks for Warming up? I do some basic Warming up, but my ideas are over. Pls.

    Thx.

    BTW: Good job!

  • @RedEvil150

check "Lick of the Week 86-89"

all those licks are great for warming up

  • @tziras Oh. Sorry. My mistake. Thx.

  • if you play that lick at insane speed, does it mean that you are insane?? :D (nice job by the way)

  • @bowlingfor1

    no ... i am just a normal guy ..!!

  • isn't this also known as the Spanish gypsy scale?

  • @metallica5252

i am not sure about that...

  • ok this is gonna sound dumb but wered u get the black backdrop i wanna get one =] also nice vid as usual

  • @crisDAwog

    ebay

  • Hi, men, your class are in spanish too, or only in english..?

  • @DUBIEL1025

Lick of the Week videos are in English

Lick of the Greek videos are in Greek

  • OMG... speed...

  • the 180 bpm should be folowed by '' do not attempt this at home'', your fingers might catch on fire

  • shit i can't even play the 60 bpm part.

  • @Metaldiabolic

you can do it faster...just practice!!

  • πολυ ωραιο!!Βασικα ηταν τελειο!

  • wow its almost like low action is essential when you were playing 180bpm , it looked like your hands werent even moving

  • @kalmahman48

    low action is essential 100%

  • @tziras theodore what is low action ?

  • @dinos35

the strings to be as close to the fretboard

  • @kalmahman48 i used to play with low action but i think high action is so much better, it doesn't slow you down just look at Yngwie Malmsteen his action is ridiculously high but he's still incredibly fast

  • great lesson

  • Hua hue hue hue hue hue hue hue hue hue

  • Cool, but you should have played it over a progression in E... taken out of context this is just an A harmonic minor lick.

  • Hi tziras, could you put Shawn Lane exercises? or something alike. I think you're the only one on youtube that has the speed and technique to do.

    Greetings

  • @bogik

i will do it soon....but i cannot play that fast

  • The phrygian dominant sound especially awesome. Can I use it over a very basic progression like C-D-B-E-D? If not, what kind of progression would you recommend for this?

  • @SomethinWild

    E F D G# etc

  • I'm gonna call y future band The Sex Tablets

  • What the hell is up with 4 dislikes??

If you people can do better post your own damn free lessons here.

  • @progrocker69

you cannot be like by anyone....

    the same applies with me

  • who the fuck disliked this :@ hes the 12th fastest guy in the world and hes giving out free lessons jst to help us and u fucking ignorant cunts cnt appreciate it X@

  • Normal - Human level

    Hard - Petrucci level

Ok now final attempt 180 bpm

    Extreme - Theodore

Ah well oké no point in going faster, I can do it but it's not very musical. :o

  • well, u look happy!!

  • You often say that after some point its geting innecesery fast. So what would you consider a good tempo to be at? For this lick for example? Thanks:)

  • @longinus101

around 240bpm for 16th notes and 160bpm for sextuplets

more than that it is geetting "to much"

  • are you actually left handed?

i noticed the video is mirrored, because the text on your shirt is backwards.

  • @pentallideath001

yes iam left handed ...all my instructional videoas are mirrored

  • @tziras

you've probably been asked that 1000 times XD

    must get annoying.

  • Thanks for posting a lesson for us everyweak man, you realy earn it to have more subscribers : )

  • That was disgustingly fast. Aces man.

  • Very demotivational... Il never be able to play that fast... well... at least i learn the modes... Ima give up now..

  • @LJLiveLV

...you CAN play that fast...it is jut a matter of practicing

  • Great lessons ,great playing THANK U

  • A very sweet scale to use for sure!

Btw, what pickups are in that guitar?

  • @DaShortyJ

    Di Marzio (Tone Zone-Paf Pro)

  • @tziras

Ah cool...also what exactly does it mean by dominant? Can you do the same with other modes, ie lydian dominant or something?

  • @DaShortyJ

yes in most of the modes..e.g Lydian dominant exists

  • Great Lick Master!... Thanks!... Greetings from Mexico...

  • Its awesome how in every single video of yours, you always increase the metronome to insane levels and play every note perfectly. You are a true inspiration to me :D

  • I've been watching for some time and I find these licks improving my playing a little bit each day, so I thank you! I had a question though. You use a Podx3, I have recently purchased a HD500. Since you have experience with the digital tones, do you have any tips on making a good tone on the Pod?

  • @KenSushi

    i have POD HD400

i will a demo video for the HD series soon with patches

  • very cool man, thanks for the free lesson and well done on the tab. seems like you really put great effort in to this, thanks again !

  • Super Ziras!

  • The speed and precision!...musical or not, playing at those extreme speeds is impressive! Very admirable guitar playing, and it is even more admirable that you are sharing you skills with the rest of the world so that others can develop as well! Thank you! You're lessons are greatly appreciated! =)
