  • already a fan and watch all the video... now i dont feel so bad for being a brony :p well just a bit XD

  • Welp... I sat through it from beginning to end. And have seen numerous episodes.

    All I can say is.

    OMGBRONYFOREVER!

just kidding...yeah...no thanks. This show just isn't for me. Its too cutesy. I need depth when i'm watching a show, and despite your solid arguments, I can't really agree that the characters are very dynamic. They seem so 'done'. Every character has a counterpart from another show, one that can be easily compared to. Its sad, really. Originality in cartoons is dead.

  • Apparently 30 (!) bitter, hateful beings watched this show and *gasp* disliked it so hard they felt compelled to click the dislike button. Or amblyopia is more common than it used to be.

  • hey everypony, so i have a couple of parasprite friends who like to flame me for liking ponies, so i figured i'd show this to them on facebook and just hope for the best, what i'm trying to say is, wish me luck, i could get two new bronies or two less friends...

    great vid btw

  • 1. Walk into Best Buy.

    2. Play this on all computers when employees aren't looking.

    3. "Browse" the camera section (which is conveniently located directly across from the computers), and watch people become Bronies.

  • It is said that the release of MLP FIM was in october 10 2010 = 101010 In Binary 101010 is 42!

Also i couldn't explain what you did better even if i tried.

    Awesome /)*(\

  • i have already seen the show plenty of times and have to admit these past 47 minuets where right on point with my opinions of the show

  • Great tool for presenting the show. thx !

  • this is the best review of the show I've ever seen.

  • you know what? I got into the show before finding out it was popular. it's totally possible to get hooked by the first 2 episodes alone. take note, I have not been known to be feminine, I'm just a regular guy who's into video games, metal, and working-out. if you have a buddy you believe is reasonable, show them an episode of the show, whether they're feminine or not. my friends are all homophobic, they even said Powerpuff Girls isn't the slightest bit manly, so fuck them.

  • Sex me.

  • @TheGPTrixie Oh my~

  • I actually liked the first 2 episodes alot, the story of Celestia and Luna/Nightmare Moon was surprisingly dark. The themes of jealousy, vengeance and forgiveness really surprised, not to mention Nightmare Moon's design was pretty badass IMO. That and Luna/DREAM MODE is my favorite fan song.

  • Wow, I don't think I've ever seen such a well constructed video explaining bronies! I think I agreed with every single statement... Thanks!

  • I already love this show. So why did I watch a near 47 minute video explaining why you should watch it?

    More ponies can't hurt.

By the way, wonderful use of the MLP intro remix by Alex S.

And that's how Equestria was made!

  • It's funny great pinkie pie's NUTS good story I LOVE Luna she's great and oh yeah....... It's MY LITTLE PONY

  • They translated Manticore in german as "Löwenwesen"... BAH! English mlp is best^^

  • And that's how Equestria was made!

  • Funny that you showed a clip of "Feeling Pinkie Keen" during the part where you criticized the writing. A lot of people do not seem to like that episode.

The show has its story flaws and I can overlook a lot of it because of how entertaining it can be, but that one episode was simply not enjoyable to me.

The moral was really weird and the fact that Pinkie's fortune telling powers conveniently just appeared and was not consistent was pretty bad writing. Not an episode to recommend, at all.

  • @KungKeno21 actually, it is consistent. watch the episode Mare-Do-Well. they made a continuity nod to that episode somewhere in the end. I actually liked Feeling Pinkie Keen. it's one of the more adventurous episodes like Dragonshy and Bridle Gossip. imo it was kinda funny too. more or less, I kinda liked the unintentional moral of the episode, first time I saw a show treading on thin ice like religion. imo the one that really let me down is the latest one, Putting Your Hoof Down.

  • @smbz821 Nope, it's not consistent. Her ability conveniently appeared in "Feeling Pinkie Keen" and did not appear again until "Mare-Do-Well". If it was consistent, her ability would have appeared under several episodes, even the ones before "FPK". It's a convenient plot point that has had zero impact on the overall story of the show and the nod they did in a later episode barely counts when such an ability would have been really helpful in several situations they have faced.

  • @KungKeno21 There's a problem with the how you feel that it's not consistent that Pinkie's "Pinkie-Sense" appearing in the episode "Feeling Pinkie-Keen," as it kills a character when every trait they possess is unveiled too early in a plot. Plus it wasn't shown again because it's possible that people did voice their discomfort with the "Science Vs. Religion" theme the episode implied.

  • @smbz821 Also, the moral was really iffy. It left the story open to the interpretation "if you can not find a proper explanation, just accept it and don't ask critical questions". As a scientist, it is crucial to ask questions and find explainations to how the world works with repeatable experiments. This episode simply downplayed those things and that left a bad impression on people who value the scientific method. It was unintentional by the writers, but the sour taste is still there.

  • @KungKeno21 the pinkie sense is spontaneous. when the pinkie sense tingles, it means something is about to happen, but it doesn't work like that vice versa. just because something is about to happen, that doesn't mean pinkie will start twitching. I think that's a good enough explanation for the inconsistency of the pinkie sense. other than that, what you said about the moral is subjective. everyone has a different perspective regarding the moral. I like it for trying something new.

  • @smbz821 I'm sorry, but that is a huge cop-out. If it is that spontaneous, the Pinkie Sense is barely of any use since you can not rely on it all the time. However, that did not stop Pinkie Pie from being able to predict falling objects when saving people in "Mare-Do-Well". Seems awfully convenient as a plot device when the sense worked the one time when the plot truly needed it to work.

  • @smbz821 (continued) Not to mention that it was established in "FPK" that the sense predicted actual events and they were determined by her body twitching in certain ways, which was not the case in "MDW" when she dodged every object and did not twitch one bit. Even by the show's own logic the Pinkie sense does not make any sense when comparing the two episodes.

  • @KungKeno21 this wasn't really mentioned in the show, but perhaps she has honed her pinkie sense? maybe now she can sense what will happen without the need to twitch, and accurately too. back in season 1 twilight actually had to concentrate to teleport. later in the show she can teleport without even trying. in season 1 fluttershy mentioned the stare just happens on its own. at the ending of Putting Your Hoof Down she used the stare at angel almost voluntarily. maybe they get stronger as it goes

  • @KungKeno21 Regarding the moral, I think it's rather absurd to dislike an episode entirely because of it. the episode has redeeming qualities. you might be offended by the writing, particularly the story of the episode, but everything else such as voice-acting, animation, sound etc. were well done, the same with the rest of the show.

  • The reason why Mlp rocks... CAUSE OF DERPY HOOVES :D! and everything you said.

  • i first watched this show when i was babysitting my niece, i was dreading the thaught thinking it was the old school version and behold, after watching one episode with her i got hooked lol

  • Lauren faust did the iron giant, that was one of my favorite animated films as a kid, even better than pokemon. And it had everything a young boy wants or needs in an animated film, life lessons like you are who you choose to be, a giant robot, alien related stuff, and in a sterotypical america, super man.

  • THIS EXPLAINS EVERYTHING!!! and clarifies to me, my brony pals, and a couple of haters i know, why I (we) love this show! Thank you!

  • Just watched the whole thing. This was beyond what I totally expected. It was amazing. Thank you for making this. I think everypony should watch this. Well done sir.

  • You really deserve a medal c:

  • Are you Tom Haverford from Parks And Recreation?

  • @danielalien No o.O

  • @PaleoSteno you sound just like him:P No offense or anything. You had a nice voice. If you didn't, I wouldn't have managed to sit through 47 minutes of MLP:P

  • @danielalien Oh, well thanks, I guess. ;P

  • Story of my life.

  • instant fav ><! But it's too bad you forgot about Vinyl Scratch. :(

  • oki doki loki

  • I was so skeptical of this show at first...I then watched an episode..then the entire first season..It hooked me..This show is so charming, heart-warming and fun to me. I'm a 24 year old brony, and I can honestly say this is one of the best cartoons I've ever watched..and I will be sad once it comes to an end.

  • wow this is awesome

  • I just realized. This show features almost all Greek Mythology in it. The Pegasus, Unicorns, Manticore, Pheonix, and a lot more! AWESHOME

  • I am already a part of the herd, but you still managed to impress me with your arguments and points on why this show managed what it did. Mate, you deserve a solid.. *brohoof*

  • i watch like 3 episodes every day watching one right now :3

  • lol same i saw it when i searched for a song and i wanted to hear their voisec and found it..cool

  • i personally see this as a sign, that the people are getting tired of the adult humor in cartoons, the simpsons, family guy and a ton of others, that in the beginning were very clever and well written, became lame, offensive and disturbing for no reason, it hurts me inside everytime i watch those cartoons, especially family guy, then i was intrigued about all this fanbase in /b/, at first i thought that this was going to be the same as those shows or another dull girly show, im glad i was wrong

  • It's settled, you are the most awesome person I have ever watched a video from on youtube from. Oh, and I love the two last songs in this video. ;)

  • I need to show this to people. It really explains something that's hard to explain...why the show is appealing to males and females, kids and adults.

Also, I'm surprised you didn't mention the fact that the people that work on the show seem to pay attention to their fans, and even add stuff in from memes they've created or things they love (like Derpy, Rainbow Dash deal with it sunglasses, etc)

All in all, I love this show, and this video really shows why!

  • FANTASTIC, thank you , you kind of justified why i like it. it feels kind of better understanding it.

However im severgly dissapointed you did NOT mention, Derpy, i mean how the comunity itself created a whole "fan made charecter" witch they adopted in to an origonal cast member. starting form one single frame where a misstake was made about her being "square eyed" im only dissapointed sense this whole work was sutch high quality.

so 9.5 out of 10. though i think ya should add Derpy in this.

  • The "don't necessarily start with the first episode" advice is excellent. My first was Green Isn't Your Color, and I think that's a great starter episode just because of how it manages to deconstruct the facade of overshadowing girliness despite its premise. My first three episodes were that one, Sonic Rainboom, and Party of One, the last of which is my favorite episode of the series and the one that really "convinced" me about the series. I'd add Bridle Gossip to that lineup too.

  • oh... forgot... there was another reference to Gollum... Twilight's conversation with herself in Lesson Zero

  • very nice sum up

another example of continuity I personally like is Fluttershy saying "... just a hop... skip and a jump!" in Feeling Pinkie Keen referencing Pinkie's song in Dragonshy

  • I just now noticed, the first book Twilight pulls off the shelf in the beginning of the first episode is upside-down.

  • This really goes into depth on the good and even bad points of the show. All I can say us good job u are truly a brony.

  • Bravo, good sir!

I applaud you and thank you kindly for sharing this with the world.

I may be a bit biased about this matter because I've been a member of the herd for quite some time, but still I appreciate your (objective) look at the show.

    Thanks again!

  • dude u r a genious this is the same exact way i discovered the show and felt about it u desereve a sub thumbs up

  • Enneagram types?

  • That was worth sitting through. Thanks for strengthening my faith in this fandom.

  • Awesome review, ill be sure to link anyone that questions my like towards mlp.

  • When I started watching the show, I didn't expect Twilight to be the MAIN main character, I thought it was going to be Pinkie Pie.

Anyway, loved the video, even though I've been a constant fan since late November 2011, this video gave me a lot more information that would've taken me a long time to figure out. So thank you. I wish I could tell you all my thoughts and experiences about the show, but then this comment would take forever to read. Haha. Besides, I can't write anything else now.

  • saber sent me loved the video subscribed amazing :D

  • Dragonshy was actually the first episode i watched :P

  • Saberspark, which did the best Fan-Documentary i had seen so far, recommended your channel, so i checked this video video out. And i didn't get disappointed :D

  • great show and i love the music the fans made

  • 40:55 - What game is that?

  • @TheGldneye My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic, it's still a work in progress, & it's made with MUGEN with made The Mortal Kombat project series.

  • @TheAnimeExpert156 I hate to correct you (Jk, I friggen love it!), but it's made with Fighter Maker.

  • No mention of Derpy Hooves ??!?

  • I just noticed an error while listening to this. Pound Puppy is part of a franchise, and is not an original show, and yet you listed it with the original shows instead of Hasbro Franchises.

Yeah, i just thought I would mention that to you.

  • @lisamariefan Ah, silly me. You mention that in the description. XD

  • I have no interest in watching the show, a friend made me watch this, but it brings up some great points. The idea of taking a character-driven show, a cartoon with continuity, and humor that some consistently like is something I've never seen before. Unfortunately, looking a bit deeper the supposedly well developed characters each just consist of one exaggerated characteristic. The humor seems to be the interactions between them and off-model animation. That doesn't strike me as great writing.

  • I can't believe I just spent 45 mins of my life watching this :/

    Really good though :)

  • I can't believe I sat here and watched this entire thing. No regrets, either. This was lovely!

  • So..Anyone here grew up with the first generation?

  • After I finished watching this explanation video about this show, my mind was like:

    "..."

    And then I said,

"Well said, Paleo, well said." /] [\ *clap* *clap*

  • kinda the opposite for me, i like the fanbase, and not the show

  • Comment removed

  • Spike looks like if Spyro had a son.

  • I know how good this show is, but boy did I had my mind blown by watching this video..! A total thumbs-up!

  • I plan on converting someone with this! wish me luck!

  • averse, not adverse

  • @jmoriarty And now I know.

  • @PaleoSteno And knowing is half the battle.

  • @PaleoSteno AND KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE!

    *GI JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*

  • Still, the amount of love given to this show is too much. It's a decent cartoon - but not the best one. I don't understand why you bronies worship it so much.

  • @aNemetZzZ /watch?v=dNToIbLFdTw&feature=channel_video_title

  • can't you guys just shut up about the god damn rule 34 already? for pity sake let the pervs watch it but keep the rest of us out of it and i don't give a fuck what the haters think.

  • "Was your zebra sens-a-tinglin'?"

"No, I was not alerted by a bodily itch, you little racist bitch."

  • 31:08 Hooves*

  • I like how this is a videos response to "Ballad of the brony" both of these fantastic informative videos, thank you.

  • awesome detailed analysis! finally there is something we can fight anime with.

    LONG LIVE THE FLASH!

  • It's... beautiful.

  • @ToughTheWigglytuff I mean yeah! Dude... The US alone is responsible for about half of planit earths scientific discoveries there not mentally retarded! (coming from an AUSTRALIAN not a patriot)

  • @supmandude Uum... Show... The word generally used in the English language as an abbreviation of "television show" or "thelevision production"...

  • @555happydude Well said brother! (sister?) *brohoof*

  • @buuski Hey dude just saying... You shouldn't hat on people just because of a strange (but still equally valid) opinion... Even IF you DID have the decency to watch the first season 3 times before hating! It would gemlike if you (just an example) liked watching pro reseling, I'd look at it going "... I dont get the appeal..." but you could be sitting there going "OMG THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER!1!!" does that give me a right to hate on you?

  • Whats that song at 42:34-44:27?

  • I just showed my mum the first 6 minutes of this video and she went from, "It is a bit weird that you like it", to, "I guess that it is not that bad". Thanks for making such a great video, I can't wait to show her the rest tommorow.

  • 40:44 WHERE THE HELL WAS THAT FROM?!?

  • i remember discovery kids, it was so anoying when it did show promos

  • wow... think i might watch it... still... puzzling

  • hahahahahahaha WOW if ANYONE and i mean ANYONE watched this all the time :: your a loser !! ahaha !! this guys a loser as well ! pfft fuckin furries ..

  • I started with the first episode and kept going, and I had absolutely NO knowledge on this show. And I loved them just as much as the rest! lol

  • i may be the most apathetic person in this world, 'cause i found the show incredibly predictable, i watched the first 5 episodes and all the time i was aware of what was going to happen next, i knew from the begging that the pony's where the instruments of harmony, i gave it a second chance going from 5 to where ever i feel a had enough, sadly it wasn't too long, 2 episodes and still i could figure out the plot from the begging, so now i'm confused ¿ does that make me a bad person?

  • @HelloQro Cartoons like this are nearly always predictable. Like I said in the video, the show does have it's faults, predictability could be one of them, though with this cartoon I feel that it's more the journey and not the destination. Sure, you might know where you going the whole time, but having fun in how you get there is what matters to me.

  • @PaleoSteno

How uncanny. I was just thinking about that whole "it's about the journey, not the destination" thing today.

  • @PaleoSteno You rise a good point, still seems is not that funny or enjoyable for me, i'm a huge fan of cartoon, i watch almost everything, but this one seems not to be for me, still i think is remarkable that you defend your point of view and try to spread the word. i may give it a shot some time lather, but for now, i think i may not be on the mood, or the required step of my life to get hooked to it.

  • @HelloQro No, it doesn't make you a bad person. It makes you a person who tried something and apparently didn't like it. Trying something is the first and most important step to forming an opinion about it. I've got several friends who tried it, but just didn't like it, and others who do like it. As it said in the video, we won't hate you for not liking this show if you've tried it.

  • seen all episodes at least 3 times; still watches 45 minute explanation of why i should watch the show

  • Thanks to this video my boyfriend is interested after I showed him clips of The Last Roundup and he is going to give the show a chance, thank you for this video!

  • Bravo, sir. Bravo.

  • Ew. I LOVE MLP, but I HATE MLP rule 34.

  • Awww. But I like rule 34.

  • @flippy55555 Actually, I do too, but I was trying to make the point that haters say that's all the bronies care about.

  • @PaleoSteno *sniff* You do care.

  • @PaleoSteno ahaha !! u just proved that "brony" is actually a façade for furry ! ;) looser !

  • @cena5lifeyeah Notice how a lot of bronies are against all of the rule 34 stuff? That's what I thought. Two bronies versus... who knows how many?

  • @Tenaomeana pfft yeah sure go to any vid and shortly proceed to see comments like " i have a crush on pinkie pie " " i would fuck twilight sparkle in a library " " someone needs to make a porn with fluttershy in it " and ooo so much more !! have fun !!

  • @cena5lifeyeah I haven't seen a single one of those kinds of comments. And for every brony that actually DOES say that, there's a lot more that don't.

  • @Tenaomeana then u werent lookin hard enough !! hoo hoo hehahahaHAHAHA !! so neways ,, that " there's a lot more that don't " is a huge pile of B.S. ! give it time n all of u will start to fuck real animals .. !! count on that ..

  • @cena5lifeyeah Right. You obviously haven't seen that many comments. And just because Rule 34 of it exists, doesn't mean that most bronies watch it or look at it.

  • @Tenaomeana guess what :: i did

  • @cena5lifeyeah What did you do?

  • @Tenaomeana i have seen hundreds of stacks of thosands of comments

  • @cena5lifeyeah Obvious lies are obvious.

  • @Tenaomeana lie ? cmon man im doin this for over 10 months !!

  • @cena5lifeyeah I've been a brony for about six months, and have seen minimum amounts of pony Rule 34 comments.

  • @Tenaomeana then u werent lookin hard enough go out there and explore !! owned

  • @cena5lifeyeah I was not "owned". I've seen a good fifty pony videos. If you hate My Little Pony as much as you say, then you couldn't have seen that many.

  • @PaleoSteno holy shit that took balls right there. especially after you've shown your face. My hat tips to you.

  • 1:05 The video that made me start watching the show.

  • PaleoSteno don't forget the fact that you recommended the return of harmony. That's season 2. : )

  • @Copycat642 It wasn't part of the main 5 episodes I was talking about though.

  • @PaleoSteno Ohh! my derp.

  • @PaleoSteno i loved the mix of pinkie pie's songs you put in this video can you tell me their names?

  • @leorodri100 They're listed in the description with links.

  • That transformers part just made my day! Thank you taste! :D

  • "this is going to be a long explanation"

*looks at ow long it is*

    HOLT SHI-

  • My point of view, one of the BEST shows in an long.

  • Very much enjoyed this, especially as a brony. *brohoof*

  • Well shit, I'm convinced.

  • @Poundpup0034

    you're a moron.

  • @buuski I'd never go out with you ya big jerk. Ya chump! Ass face! Pompa moron! YOU'RE A FAWT LOSER! /endnewjerseyaccent

  • Hey, whats that one with the fighitng pony game? It looks awesome!

  • @kalmah456 It's called MLP: Fighting is Magic, developed by Mane6, there's a link to the video shown in the description. You can find out more about it at mane6.com

  • To be honest, I have trouble finding where it appeals to all age groups. I watched the whole first season, only to to be more confused as to why it has such a rabid following. I didn't find the writing all that grand, it seemed to me like all young-children's programming: Oh no, I has problem! *Social Link Activate!* Problem is gone! *awesomeface.jpg* That's about all I see from it, which is why I'm confused about its popularity.

  • @blackdragon227 It just doesn't appeal to you, that's all. Everyone has different tastes.

  • @blackdragon227 You must have enjoyed it if you watched the whole first season.

  • @MrCheesedogim

Not necessarily. I just really wanted to know why people were so fanatical about it, and I had hoped that making myself go through each episode(which I really regretted whenever a goddamned song popped up) would lend some sort of understanding. Sadly(*or maybe fortunately, since I'd rather not be associated with people who start flame wars over something like 'Cupcakes') I found no such understanding, and have thus stopped watching it.

  • @blackdragon227 I find what you said here really interesting - especially as it's just an opinion instead of some hateful tripe - but when you think about it the majority of shows and films are dead simple yet effective (Star Wars?), and this just has great comedy bits in a Looney Tunes style and just a feel good vibe. That's all there is to it, and if cartoons aren't your thing that's fine right? Not everyone can love the same thing, even things considered perfect are hated by someone.

  • i converted 2 of my friends so far, this will help me get the rest.

  • Loved this video, got me to subscribe. Glad you went threw each of their characters without outshining ones over the others. Plus those episode suggestions were great.

  • AWESOME analysis and editing, as well as great integration of personal response. You are a part of what makes the fanbase soo awesome. I salute you good sir. .( *.*)7

  • looks like 24 haters disliked this. That's just sad
