  • If he did it for personal reasons, well, that sucks. If he did it as a tribute, well done, showing respect. `Knowing musicians, he's probably just another egotistical wanker. Welcome to the club. Frankly, he'll almost certainly never be as good, musically, as Zappa, so rejoice in that, lol.

  • he had to be very very stoned to do that.

  • pfffff RHCP is not bad but this "cover" is a complete shit.

  • fast.. a little out of intonation.. preposterous (or at least I can't see any reason in it).. I hope some people ask: who the fuck is this Frank Zappa? Sidebar: Who the fuck haven't known that so far! Some people google it and I hope will appreciate it

  • John is one hell of a musician. Can't argue that.

  • what song is in the end of the video?

  • @KiddiHasu it's from john's first album, I don't know the number of it but its one of the untitles of his first album

  • @esqueleto12 ye i know but I dont remember the name aswell

  • the problem is this wasnt meant to be immortalized on youtube for people to see. Just a little thing for some festival in between a song. bands don't usually give a shit about festivals

  • haha you guys really take this much more seriously than zappa would. well, no one really knows because he's now in a vehicle somewhere out there (which existence is under an investigation itself) trading ideas with varese, but if he was in the crowd, he would've just clapped and laughed along with everybody else.

  • well at least he tried. in no way do i mean to insult win i say its the thought that counts :/

  • amateur

  • This performance is not an insult in any way

    It just sucks lol

  • you guys fuckin suck, zappa wouldn't take himself half as seriously as you defend him. Frusicante probs knew zappa and definately loved his music so who cares its music, which is art, which is open to interpretation

  • Nice homage but might've actually been impressed if he'd sung all the words...

  • Who his this guy and what the fuck is he trying to do to Franks music...Fuck it up ...Anyways what the fuck ....he likes it and some of the crowd like it ,so who cares...Long live the Frank....

  • Maybe learn to play the song before you try to perform it next time.

  • Comment removed

  • @lunule: Your comment reflects your knowledge of music. To quote Mr. Zappa..."Most people wouldn't know good music if it walked up and bit them on the Ass." You really have no clue you Jackwagon!

  • wher is john these days... nowhere... where is mr zappa? still up there with the best

  • @nspcvdgg Yes, Zappa is up there... way up there.

RIP Frank you were the best.

  • @nspcvdgg John is nowhere? I beg to differ.

  • 82 dislikes? WTF? Yes, I know it's very diffrent to the original, but, hell is that some sharp guitar playing.

  • @Nintendofan981 WTF? Sharp guitar playing? Seriously, you must see a surgeon about an aural transplant.

  • John Frusciante is an excellent guitar player and he knows his shit, im sure he has mad respect for FZ.

  • I love frusciante, I love zappa...

And the people who "dislikes", or insult Frusciante have a wrong conception of music. It`s not a "literal" cover. The band was preparing for their next song, and John came up with this tune inspired from Zappa`s song.

Is a DIFFERENT version. The original have another preparation, and frusciante did this in less than a minute.

And shut up, everybody knows that frusciante is amazing! He did amazing things.

  • @manueletchart Shit is shit... whether it was a "literal" cover, or a band preparing for the next song, or a "different version" (what in the hell does THAT mean?), or whether he did it in a minute, or ten hours. It sucks ass. This is not an 'amazing thing", in a good way. It is amazingly bad. Frusciante should stick to Flock of Seagull interpretations and leave Zappa to those capable of doing it justice. Playing poorly live isn't a joke. People pay to see it.

  • @manueletchart You are just being, naturally, defensive, everyone knows he is pissed off that FZ rejected his ass...

  • he loves frank just like the rest of us !

  • @Jerebear57 John was probably angry because he wasn't allowed to use drugs.

  • There should be a law...

  • Got to love frank zappa. Im guessing that many didn't know what was going on lol

  • Nice try...

  • All of you people defending Frusciante are ridiculous and clearly his die-hards. Any serious musician should be embarassed for the guy (and Keidis). Frank's music is literaly mind-blowing and will tickle you pink if you have the attention span to just take it in. I'd bet the Chili Peppers themselves would cringe at this video today. Some tribute.

  • I love John and Frank, but this is total crap.

  • this is terrible. this is why frank didn't let his band members do drugs.

  • terrible.

  • Frusciante never actually auditioned for Zappa!

  • Just funny...

  • hahaha, oh wow.

  • they made shit out of this cover the real zappa song is wayyyy better

  • what year is this?

  • @HolyDiver55100

    1990

  • really sloppy and bad

  • Blasphemy! you untalented stooge...........

  • Wow sounds like shit.

  • @sonicdeath10

    it was just a joke

  • @sonicdeath10 Yeh, Shit.

  • This is why Zappa would never let stoned msucians perform his music.

  • @dharmaseed Actually a lot of zappas band were heavily into coke, everyone knows that.. and if you watched a couple more videos from this particular concert you would see that john is more than capable of frank zappas work.. hell! he even did audition for zappas band and when frank asked him to join he decided against it..

  • Comment removed

  • @joshmacky He 'decided against it' because Zappa strictly prohibited illegal substances, so I seruiously doubt that a lot of his band were into coke. Zappa was a staunch anti-drug advocate, and had fired many band members, past and present. I still wonder how John would have played this song, were he not blown out of his mind.

  • @joshmacky that's rather libellous.you got some names? try playing that shit on dope.

  • @joshmacky Bullshit. Just all of your comment

  • @joshmacky

Frank Zappa was strongly against the use of drugs in his band and for the people around him as well ! Really should get your facts straight mate, before you start 'telling' actual fans what you think you know.

  • @dharmaseed lol! so true...

  • What the fuck is this? Everyone dissing on John... He is one of the most talented and soulful musicians of the world these days...

I see this like a a tribute and I don't think no one was making fun or disrespecting anyone here...

  • Good but Zappa is better

  • I like frusciante but he should not have played this shitty Zappa stuff

  • @fendermaxime thats the onley shitey part it can be over lookd the song is a classic tho zappa was and evin dead one of the worlds best gutar composers etc.

  • if the band cant perform the whole song then dont play it live

  • @LetterClefs becaus he thought frank was going to jump in his body and make him play like him ,everyones dream

  • This guy sucks

  • Somehow I just don't see him playing in Zappa's band.

  • That's just poodle

  • finally real humour!

  • better than the original!

  • @noodlesmealey Absurd, while I admire the attempt, it was completely butchered.

  • IN ZAPPA WE TRUST.

  • give'm a break gang, he's obviously just dicking around.

  • This is like Boy George playing Led Zep....

  • Guess they did their best. Could have used more banjo.

  • I am a mad Zappa fan and I thought that was cool as. Good to see it being played at all.

  • Holy shit, this is the equivalent of someone taking a dump on Zappa's face

  • fucking blows

  • Fucking massive insult to zappa!

I love the Chili's but this is awful

  • I love Zappa & Frusciante, but looks like Zappa groupies are really close-minded =/ or at least, idiots

  • i'm so glad kiedis didn't try to sing that...

  • Honestly, it's youtube. Stop whining about QUALITY or whatever. It wprobably sounded alot f*cking better when played live at that very moment. I think it's cool that they tribute Zappa... Not too many bands that do that these days.

  • Lol you people are all so pretentious. This is called a tribute and while it does sound bad it was obviously done in good spirit.

  • Uf, very bad tune. When Zappa did make some parody, it was funny.

Here ain't no humor and no music...

  • That was shit.

  • Wow. Just incredibly bad.

  • WTF

  • AMAZING. Who'da thunk?

  • So does heroin make you think it's a good idea to butcher a Frank Zappa song in front of a huge audience?

  • Great!

Nice to see Zappa is covered by a popular artist.

  • ahh somebody see the crazy I did with this - YouTubeRoads

  • For those of you who did not know. John Frusciante was offered to be the guitarist of Frank Zapp in the 80's before he joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers. John decided against it due to not being aloud to take drugs. Regardless John is a huge Zappa fan and has kicked the drugs. He has a lot of amazing solo music I suggest you check out. And I know this version of Inca Roads is HARDLY comparable but the idea of him playing this is really cool. Check out John Frusciantes newest album "The Emyprean"

  • Zappa didn't offer John Frusciante to be in the band...John was thinking about audtitioning for him int he 80s but apparently "chickened out" at the last second.

  • @dobbstown80 Yeah because he would butcher the audition and not be picked.Steve vai, quite possibly the best guitarist/musician ever almost lost the audition! Fruciante isn't from the right musical musicianship cloth that was required for a zappa band.

  • @dobbstown80 he had to be free of drugs to enter the band so he decided not to join

  • @dobbstown80 He didn't chicken out. Frank Zappa didn't let anyone who was heavily into drugs or alcohol into the band. Frusciante would have been kicked out after 2 weeks of touring.

  • @Hitman100 Frusciante would never pass a zappa audition in a million years. Not even CLOSE!!!!! he's not from the right musical cloth that was required to play with frank.Frank needed classical and virtuoso performers and musicians.Fruciante misses the mark by quite some length!

  • @fadethetrade to be fair, by his own admission, Zappa himself said he couldn't pass the audition for his own band.

  • @BognarRegis yes,as a performer on the guitar, however,as a musician he would have hired himself in a flash.Fruciante wouldnt pass the audition with either instrumental or musicianship, not even close.

  • @BognarRegis Frank said that in a magazine interview but was referring to his vocals. If you know of another time he said it I would be interested in checking it out.

  • @43500534 He said it in his book "The Real Frank Zappa Book" in the chapter called All about Music. I'd cite page and paragraph for you but my friend Rachel has my copy.

  • @BognarRegis Thanks Bognar. I found my copy...Frank: "I can easily 'talk a song' or do a 'meltdown,' but I can sing only about an octave, with seventy-five to eighty-percent pitch accuracy. Let's be honest about it friends 'n neighbors: with specs like that, I couldn't even pass an audition to get in my own band. "

  • Comment removed

  • Heh, i would love to hear the drummer play the groove from Inca Roads.. ;)

  • People that don't like Zappa don't like music.

  • @rasjavita no, zappa is really out there. alot of people don't get it and it's not their fault. it's like saying "People that don't like Cannibal Corpse don't like music." it's not that it's awful music, i just don't get it. (im a massive zappa fan

  • @rasjavita your a smart man

  • @rasjavita

How interesting! I rather think peaople that like Zappa don't know anything about music.

  • Whoa! I never would have expected any of the RHCs to be Zappa fans, but I guess you learn something new everyday.

I'm impressed that they know whom to appreciate and take influences from.

  • you should see the entire vid: before john starts playing, kiedis says "this is the only zappa' song i allow".

  • Whobie whattie now?

  • whoa, that was pretty horrible! haha

I still love the peppers of course.

  • @telperionflower you don't know anything about music

  • what's the song at the very end?

  • john frusciante - untitled #10

  • and i think than for an interpretation like that you need to be a little on drugs haha

  • This could be a "Frank Zappa shreds" vid

  • zing!

  • ^ That

  • Butchered!

  • not quite what I expected, but it certainly was inca roads...rather fast and sloppy GUACAMOLE QUEEN GUACAMOLE QUEEN GUACAMOLE QUEEN

chile peppers know where its at

  • Im sure Frank would have pissed himself laughing at this.

    Nice try but no cigars.

  • ha! he really went for it. good for him.

  • this is why john never played in zappa's bands or zappa plays zappa

  • No really at all, i think the most big reason was because in zappa's bands players couldn't use drogs a at all...

  • haha i forgot about that

  • Comment removed

  • @StevenRafiBose um what?

  • @boogster123321 no john didn't play because he didnt allow drugs

  • @austink1227 just insult to injury

  • @boogster123321

While I do like zappa and don't like this, as a fan of frusciante, I feel that I must inform you that he actually auditioned for and was accepted into zappa, but decided not to join so that he could join the chili peppers

  • @wildfire36500

    no.

he didnt join cuz frank didnt allow to use drugs.

  • I'm just impressed that he attempted it at all.

    Props where it's due.

  • Fakin' it...

  • FAIL!

  • albeit a little messy it's the guacamole queen bit, definitely at the end of inca roads.

  • I wish he'd put his shirt on; then i'd punch him clean out of it. Druggies n' Cock suckers all of 'em.

  • that might have been a bit from "Montana" maybe... the "Even if you think it is a little silly, folks

I don't care if you think it's silly, folks

I don't care if you think it's silly, folks "

or keidis was all H'd out

  • Holy NOT Inca Roads Batman

  • Looks like fleas hand was hurting there in the beginning. Wonder what song they played before this. lol

  • lol what just because JFT was a fan of Zappa doesn't mean they sound even close to him, Frusciante is just fucking around there but everyone thinks that hows i tis

  • If there was no Frank or Captin Beefheart then there would be no Chili Peppers

  • well it's impossible to buy scores to this stuff ain't it - after all, all modern Western musicians owe their entire estistence and ability to profit thanks to the fact that white people have all the guns - Music is shit - b,d,c,b,a,g,d,a,d,a,d fuck off

  • A true expression of jealousy by a real red hot shitty pepper, must be tired of living.

  • if i were there i would probably throw him a rock or something. he deserves it

  • dont copy legends...

  • i <3 pooping

  • Was he goofing on Frank?

  • junkies de mierda

  • love it. hells yeah john frusciante

  • sucks

  • What a fuckin' shit

Take a fantastic piece of music, by one of the most talentuous guitar players on the world. Give it to a commercial band like Red Hot, and you'll have a disguspating 40 seconds sound. It's a SHAME

Fortunately nobody will remember these guys in a few time...

    Bad times for rock

  • your mother is "commercial". open your mind asshole

  • Just goes to show you: Doesn't matter how many tatoos you got: Bullshit is bullshit. The RHCPs were always a derivitive band. All those wannabe-funky white boy-unfunky songs. And Anthony Keidis coudn't sing his way out of a paper bag. Butchering Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground = prime example #1. Heard of singing on key Anthony? Yeah. We know. You get a lot of pussy.

"To say that he lived well is true. To say that I could spit on his grave without feeling is also true." - Charles Bukowski

  • these dudes suck, plain old.

  • what the fuck was that play the whole thing or get out. in all due respect

  • this is god-aweful

  • the reason they were playing that was to patronize zappa. fuck these has-beens! zappa is the man. if you don't believe me, go check out stadium arcgaydium. zappa's 50+ album legacy endures while these guys are struggling to come up with new material.

  • I've got no problem with musical preference, but I can't stand ignorance. John Frusciante made it into Zappa's band but left because of Frank's no-drug policy and then joined the peppers. Vai was chosen after him. I agree this performance is shit, but John loves Zappa. He once said his most priced possession is his Frank Zappa record collection.

  • Fruciante DIDN'T make it into Zappa's band. He left the waiting room before he auditioned for Zappa. He knew he couldn't be a rock star, so he ditched and joined the peppers.

  • correct. he wouldn't have made it in anyways ,hes not anywhere near zappa material. this video is an insult to good music. if he wanted to do a tribute to him he could have at least played it good.

  • Never said he did

just said he destroyed an excellent piece of guitar by a fantastic artist

    f

  • haha

  • Vai first toured with Zappa in 1980, When Frusciante was 10 years old...............

  • Cool looks they understand whats about ---

  • right for anyone to relate this to zappa or any other classical piece those are just scales ! zappa used them in his arrangements, but that does not mean that a bunch of has beens are relating it to anything but their own lack of creativity

  • Well... I have to admit that Frusciante's version, hm... is awful. There's nothing in here to compare with Zappa. I don't want anybody to feel attacked (I used to be a great fan of RHCP), but hm... It''s only my opinion.

  • it's a lot hendrix like IMHO

  • Although I like the RHCP's, I do not think they did a good job with Inca Roads. That being said, I do like the fact that they like Zappa, and are helping spread his music for a younger crowd who might not of ever even heard of Zappa.

  • why does the red hot play frank zappa in concert?

  • Well if you put it that way you make me sound like an asshole, maybe rightfully so. Point being not every guitar player is capable of playing every style and I stand by my opinion in saying that nothing in John's repertoire (solo or RCHP) compels me to believe he was at all capable of filling that demanding role. His diehard fans disagree, even after watching this. Big Surprise!!

    And with that I'm done.

  • I'll have you know that I'm a fan of the chili peppers - but it's definately not because of the unprecedented "virtuosity" therein. I've heard a lot fo his solo stuff and his minimalism simply does not strike me as impressive. If you seriosuly do think he was cut out for zappa, maybe you haven't heard the story of john "chickening out" while waiting in line to audition. Maybe you haven't heard too much of Zappa's music - far cry from Snow hey oh both musically, physically and intellectually.

  • I don't believe that you truely believe that. And I don't truely believe he said it, unless it was recorded. And if you do... I honestly don't know what else to say. Everyone has a right to a free opinion, but when it comes to spreading complete fabrications like that it gets to become ridiculous. zappa's music required more than just scratch funk chords and pentatonic soloing. In my OPINION, if it takes the skill of steve vai and mike keneally to fill that spot - then where might frush fit in

  • not everyone in zappas bands was as gifted as vai or kennealy. Warren cuccurulo comes to mind.
