and as a note: the run is the weakest move, but the end poke where you stop is your strongest move (followed by the O (upward poke). just food for thought.

Also... pro move around 5:45 by intentionally going for the monsters left foot step as it goes for the roar. Most people I've played with aren't aware it will knock you over and avoid the "covering your ears effect"

I have always been a great sword kinda guy =p. I may use them differently than some though. got some Rathalos with attack up large, and quick draw (so my unsheathing attack will always be a critical = 125% more dmg) I have masters blaze which is like...1440 attack or something crazy. I just time moment, on the monsters turning, or landing from flying, after an attack, and go for a full charge swing on it's weak spot (usually after breaking everything) and I can solo some stuff VERY fast =D

This makes me want to use Lance more than GS now...I've always been the powerhouse for my teams..and always allocted for the head...its getting kinda crappy cus I keep taking the damage...wow...lance is more useful than I thought...

With Guard + 2 And Guard Up you can tank INFINITLY. And yes there is such a thing as tanking. Try using friendship jewels, if you get a bunch you'll get the taunt effect which draws the monster too you. I use gavios S armor which gives me guard up and guard +1, then if you are soloing you can get guard jewels and buff it up to guard + 2. Guard + 1 is already quite enough though.

@eX092192 Well, I ALWAYS youse power/mega juice. Sometimes the monster hits for more then your stamina can afford, so Guard+1 helps out there.

@SuperGuy344 One of the best, they can keep you in good health, while putting out decent damage at the same time. If you're ever cornered, you can always "Guard and Poke" until you have an opening to "Lance Charge" through. When used right, Lance is one of the most powerful, versatile, and safe weapons you can have.

@SuperGuy344 A good lance at HR5, if I rememebr correctly, is the Ceanataur Piercer, it can be made from the Longhorn as a base weapon, then into the Shell Claw Lance, Ceanataur Stinger, then finally Ceanataur Piercer. As for Raw/Element, Lance stands where every other weapon does, nowhere. It's your preference as to go with Raw Damage, or Elemental Damage. For starters, use Raw Damage until you get good, or give up on lance. If you feel like giving the lance a shot, make more complicated lances

@GoogieStereo In case you haven't figured it out in the two weeks it's been since you posted, it's "Ukanlos Calamity" the lance you get from the Ukanlos, the final monster of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (MHP2G). As was the armor used with the lance you noticed. With a total of 805 Attack power, and 120 Ice attribute, it's one of the best lances in the game.

Pro....you master the hardest weapon in monster hunter!

@yikhang88 Lance isn't the hardest weapon to master in MH it's just that you're not used to it. When using a Lance you basically just turtle (Keep shielding) and wait for an opening. When you get better with it and have armor with Evade +2 you can do even more damage with it by using the dodge in place of the shield for some attacks. It's a really hard weapon to master though when you're used to using more mobile weapons like Longsword or Dual swords.

@dota2late2Apologize All weapons can stop a charge. Monsters have stagger limits on different parts of their body such as the head, foot, wing. Once you reach the limit the monster will stagger and depending on where you hit they will react differently (staggering the leg will knock some monsters over). You're charge will not win against a monster's charge if you don't reach the stagger limit.

@jose88eric It pretty much is the same, but in mh3 there is a new attack where you have to hold guard and then high poke. It charges, so it's stronger than the average lance hit, but also, it can block most attacks while charging and then follow it up with a counter attack

So, I've never played an MH game, but looking at Tri at the moment. What exactly is the role of a Lancer? From the looks of it, I'd say supportive, which suits me perfectly. But are they more suited for defense, drawing attention away from other hard-hitters, for attacking, or just neatly placed in the middle? There might've been something about it in the video, but the text was rather hard to read at the crab-like monster.

i have a question... when using the la nce on a monster... is the evade(dodge, move away,parry) effective with minor attacks like say the hermataur jumping and hitting the ground to dogge quake or wind?... similar to a minor version of the invinceable jump when running from a running monster or beam/fire attack??

if you time it perfectly you can dodge those kind of things (even screams) however if they are prolonged then it may not work, but it is possible

@spleen4life umm may i ask you why you were using narga armor with a lance???? it is mainly an armor used by longsword masters (such as myself) and greatsword masters... yet the only useful evade skill i have ever found for lance is evade +2 and thats extreemly hard to get at mid rank... so why were you even using it even if you were fighting narga???

well personally i get carried away when it comes to doing a gunlance combo, this leaves we defenceless when the monster turns round and attacks fast, when i used a gunlance after using a lance i found it very slow to block or evade in those type of situations.

as a team hunter the less deaths the better, i don't want to sound vein but i hardly ever die when i lance- this makes me someone to rely on in a team hunt.

i can do more and take less damage when using a lance rather than a gunlance ^^

anything with fire, but don't settle for a weak lance only because its got fire attribute- if you have a weak fire lance and a strong raw attack lance then pick the raw lance every time!!!

there is no single 'best lance' theoretically, how good your weapon is depends on what the monster is weak against and few other factors

lance isnt more of a team weapon- it does have a higher stagger factor but that not only means more attacks for team mates but when you are alone its more attacks for yourself, theres nothing wrong with lance soloing

I was curious one which type of Lance you recommend. The only 2 types I know of are Iron and Bone, but I'm wondering which you feel is better.

well theres alot to explain here, first off it doesnt really matter which it is (iron or bone) its the attribute that matters- now both of these dont have any attributes but the further you upgrade them the more types of attribute will come available and stronger- but if i was to choose one for a new hunter it would be the bone lance series because i find them easier to upgrade and they upgrade into attribute weapons faster than in the iron lance series

Also, I never really thought of using the guard poke. I always thought it sucked. But because of this guide I use it more often and it's really working out. Also, If you use the charge with an elemental weapon, you do more damage because you get more hits in. With elements and status weapons more hits is better :)
