besides that jamie is a friend of several of the main characters, her boyfriend, teddy(pay attention)was kidnapped by the tagruato corporation. teddy was apparently investigating the legality of the corporation's materials(a less potent yet possibly harmful form is used in the popular slusho drinks, whose shirt the character jason can be seen wearing in the movie). teddy found their main/most harmful ingredient(which might've played a role in the monster's birth) that jamie just ate.

not necessarily. she might've been high as hell and all that, like a night of drinking, but her death...hm. i've got no idea how lethal it can get. but if there's any confirmation that this character is dead, she either died of seaweed nectar overdose(if it's actually deadly), or smushed by the cloverfield monster. or the bombs. otherwise, she could've made it out and be alive in the next movie.
