  • Quite appropiate that they chose to emulate the 48k Beeper sound for this insect game, as some 48k music did resemble the sound of a hyper active bee :-)

  • Ha, this theme popped into my head the other day for some reason and was driving me crazy. All I could remember was an old game I used to play on the C64 with bugs in it, so I googled "C64 insect game" and one of the matches was the wiki article for "Colony" after which I did a youtube search and lo and behold . . .

    Thanks :)

  • I loved the little bug running across the screen.

  • It's not 2 SID channels + 2 beepers (C64 doesn't have a beeper), it's 3 SID channels and 1 sample channel. Also I think the title is a bit misleading. Both versions (ZX and C64) were made by Icon Design, it's hardly a ripoff if the team who made the song on one computer also makes it on another :D

  • Of course there is no beeper in C-64. They are using 2 SID channels to play "standard" SID envelopes and the 3rd channel is being used for the 6510 CPU to play "beeper" tracks from Spectrum. I don't think they are using sampling techniques here, although playing Spectrum's beeper might be similar in some aspects. As they obviously took that sound from Spectrum, apparently to show C-64 could handle that, it was a sort of rip-off :-)

  • This sounds great! How do you convert Specy to C64?
