HAHAHAHA! My best friend is blind and she hates her cane. She always has a back up though. So she'd be the one to break it on purpose. Why is it white, red, white, red? My friend's is just white with a black handle, red on the bottom, and the bottom thing (whether it be those ball things or just a tip) is white, not black. Nice to see you're excited about your cane though. :))
I have 3 boys and a new 9 month old daughter who is completely blind. I really hope my boys are as helpful and kind to their sister as you are to yours. It is such a blessing that you guys are sharing your life together so nicely. I just stumbled upon this video while trying to research how to use a cane.
Is your baby crawling yet? If so, you should introduce her to a cane ASAP. They now have canes for infants who are learning to crawl and walk. The sooner your baby learns to use a cane, the more independent and confident she will become as she grows as far as mobility is concerned. I wish you the best of luck to you and your daughter.
Wow, you are one lucky girl Erin, to have a sister help you like that. I'm blind too. I barely get any help Why can't you type? I use a screen reader called "Jaws" and it tells me EVERYTHING. There are times where I have to tell it to shut up! Don't you have a screen reader? Also, your cane is different. where are you from? I live in the US and the canes here only have red on the bottom. Yours have Grey and two strpes of Red. Usually two red stripes means someone is blind and deaf.
Lol no, But I wish. I search the net with my friends and family. Lets just say that I'm going through a hard time with being blind right now so I'm looking up information and stuff.
Not all people are completely blind. You can be legally blind and still have some usable vision. If I take my glasses off my vision is much worse than 20/200 (the cutoff with best correction to be legally blind) and I can definitely tell that there are two red stripes. Know your facts before you go spouting off crap.
I use JAWS too. It does get a little annoying when it "babbles" when I don't want it to do so, and I sometimes have to press the "ctrl" key a few times to get it to "shut up." hahaha. I had to learn to touch type when I was a little tyke.

Obviously the cane is described the first time she receives one..Duh.. and plus they are metal strips, so she'd feel them too..
