not sure of all the details, but he was leaving rehearsal of the second show of the series "remarkable 1st match fudomine" 2 weeks before it was due to open and that was when he was hit

he came back for the last show of the first seigaku (this is the 2nd cast in this vid btw) and shared the role with his replacement, yuya endo. endo did all of the dance and tennis match while yanagi, the echizen in this show, did stand still scenes

He got hit by car, was in coma. The doctors thought Yanagi would be bed-ridden for rest life. Basicaly every thing got hurt, his vocal chords were injured. Anyways as you can see he recovered is back to acting.

There are 4 Seigaku casts (soon there will be the 5th one). In the first two casts Ryoma was played by Yanagi Kotaroh and Endo Yuya - Yanagi had a serious accident before the Remarkable 1st Match: Fudomine, so in a few show he was replaced by Yuya and then they shared the role. In the third cast Echizen is played by Sakurada Dori and in the fourth one - by Sakamoto Shougo. First cast - Dream live 1, second cast - DL2 and DL3, third cast - DL4 and 4th cast - DL5. Ask if you have more questions.
