If you are studying marine mammals in school and still support this show, you are poorly educated. These animals being held in captivity goes against every aspect of how they live in the wild. The fact that they are captured and held solely for our entertainment, and to make a profit is sickening, and practically slavery. You are also ignorant for only wanting to hear your opinion of this situation. I suggest you watch the documentary "The Cove", it will change your perspective.
Dolphins are intelligent and social creatures that, in the wild, interact with hundreds of pod-mates, hunt communally, and have entire coastlines as their playground. In captivity, all of this is lost. Social partners are restricted to a handful of tank-mates. Captive dolphins are fed dead fish (wild dolphins only catch and eat live fish; they never eat dead fish) and they face a profound reduction in space and stimulation. SOURCE - WSPA
@drepop803 honestly I always wondered why we haven't seen an epsidoe on animal planet with different animals like these interacting, surely a dolphin occasionally visits Alaska waters or a killer whale takes a vacation to hawaii once in a while.
@khog286 animal planet doesnt really educate. they usually always show shows that add fear to the ppl that are already scared. instead of educating us on snakes they'll show a show about snakes attacking ppl. no educational shows whatsoever.
you guys are fools! It is not right to promote captive wild animals by paying to see them perform! They wouldn't perform if there was food available in their tanks i garentee! but instead they are fed AFTER they've done a trick. Thats how they're trained. Its cruel and disgusting!
@sellersjp01 they are fed regardless of if they perform a behavior or not. And your right it's called positive reinforcement, you ask them to perform a behavior and give them a reward if they do it, if they decide not to they just count to 3 and try something they already know. It's a way to stimulate the animals and we humans use it with every animal and other humans. It's your choice not to support these shows and to have an opinion but nobody really wants to hear it.
@jhdarcy24 nobody wants to hear my opinion hey?! I think a lot more people agree with me than you son! Regular little you are huh? My whole point is they are wild animals, they should not be captive! We've learnt all we can from them and now its purely just for profit!! And if you dont think its profit then you're a fool! And another irrefutable point is they live about half their life expectency in captivity!! Not natural!
@sellersjp01 once again that's your opinion, and I'm a girl not a son. We are still learning so much about them in captivity, and I don't think that it's just for profit, the trainers obviously trust and care for the whales and so do a lot of other people at Sea world. I however have never been here so I'm not gonna comment in regards to 6 flags. And if you mean that "I'm a regular" b/c I comment on these videos a lot, It's because I'm studying in college to work with these animals and I know th
@sellersjp01 at I can provide accurate education about orcas, Obviously I'm not against captivity when it is being done right and the animals best interest is the first priority. I could go on and on but I won't because it's not worth my time b/c I can see your set in your opinion and that is fine, but I stated my opinion on the matter and was never looking for an argument.
these animals have worked out that they do tricks and will then get fed, surely that shows they are smart enough not to be kept in captivity, essentially like keeping humans in captivity
Absolutly. With sand and rocks, and other things they'd find in the ocean. Possibly even kelp or other plants and life, is it's possible to sustain them in a large enough tank. It would provide a lot of things for the orcas.
I have to say I do not agree with Shouka's situation. Shouka was taken from her original family in Marine Land France and moved to Ohio. Then she was moved to Cali, where she now lives in the relatively small tank, without any other orcas. As for orca social structure, I don't think dolphins count. Orcas should be with other orcas. Her tank is also VERY plain and dull. It just doesn not look right to me. I think she should not have been removed from MLF. This is a total downgrade.
Six Flags: Discovery Kingdom formerly known as Marine World, is located in the city of Vallejo, California. That's northern California in the bay area along I-80.
Yes as of July 29, 2008, Shouka the Killer Whale from France is alive and well and still performing this show for the 2008 season daily when the park is open. The animal shows do typically change slightly each year but the animal performers often stay the same.
The Spirit of Shouka killer whale (& dolphin) show are general admission-seated for those who paid admission to the Six Flags discovery kingdom theme park. That's also why so many people keep interrupting my videos of Animal Factor show (bunch of little animals) featuring Quillson el gigante hamster del muerte.
when i record the shows, i always sit at the splash zone at the right side and it has to be the seat closest to the slideout because some very rude people stand up when shouka slides out

First of all, that tank is to shallow for an Orca. Second, the dolphin is a risk. This is just a gross unconcern for both animals' safety.

lucky this wasnt the wild or that dolphin would of got owned by the killer.
