I checked up on the Martinique. In 1996 it closed for 2 years and reopened as the Radisson. The website says it was all "beaux-arts glamour" but it doesn't tell you what it was in the 1980's. That part is conveniently left out of the description.
The Hotel Martinique is now a 4 star hotel called The Radisson. It was all fixed up years ago as the property values went up.
The owners of the Martinique made a fortune off of the homeless. The city/state/fed was paying thousands per person being housed in that fleabag dump. It was far more profit than the owner could've made as a tourist hotel.
Gov't financed charity is one of the biggedst hustles in the USA.
It has been over 20 years yet it has gotten worse nothing has changed. It just seems like it gets harder and harder for people. Now that they are starting to stop giving raises in disablity and social security we will see much worse than this. Prices are rising in 5 years 700/month will be more like 300/month! This is a shame in the richest country in the world!
