What happened was when they were recording it in '76 Tom had a guitar riff idea and Joe decided to play bass on the track, so when it got to the slow part that's just guitar & drums, with the record light still on, Joe handed the bass to Steven. So the rest of the song Joe was back on guitar and Steven finished the track on bass. "Live in the studio", with an overdub or two.... Required reading: "Walk This Way: The Aerosmith Autobiography".
